Don't waste your money
by uagear ,Nov 16 '03
Pros: Design of receptacle helps to reduce messiness.
Cons: Poor quality, lasts about a month.
If you are picky enough to choose a burr grinder to begin with, steer clear of this one. While it's price is enticing, I went through two of these in as many months. They burn themselves out quite easily. Look elsewhere.

Affordable Quality Grind!
by engr-guy ,Feb 14 '04
Pros: Affordable Burr-Grinder.
Cons: Plastic pieces cause static cling, use a swifter wipe to solve.
Bought as an upgrade from a chopper grinder. Less messy than the grinders found in the local grocery market, though just as noisy. I wipe the outside with a Swifter wipe which seems to keep the static problem in check. Can you imagine the cost of this product if it were made of cast metal?

Messy , Oh my gosh!!
by beanaddicted ,Jan 12 '04
Pros: Good grind adjustment
Cons: Static, too messy
This little unit has been operating for about a year now in our kitchen. I've had no mechanical problems but the little beast is messiest appliance we own! The static build-up is just annoying! Getting the grinds into the coffee maker can prove frustrating at best.

I prefer the burr grind over the blade grind so I put up with the fuss... for now. I guess the design is at fault or perhaps the unit is not properly grounded causing the static.

Sorry, can't recommend this one!

Don't even bother
by unemotte ,Aug 20 '04
Pros: Inexpensive, inexpensive, and inexpensive
Cons: Noisy, messy, flimsy
I bought this grinder for 10C$ at a discount store. At that price, I couldn't resist.

Well, I should have ! It's noisy, and I mean noisy.

The burrs are made of plastic and I accidently broke one while trying to clean the unit.

Speaking of cleaning ! Good luck and do it often otherwise your kitchen counter will be filled with coffee within a few days !

Lastly, the container doesn't hold enough coffee beans so you always need to refill it !

Before, I had an aging Braun coffee grinder. It worked fine, too bad I gave it away.

Mine Couldn't Stand the Daily Grind
by bimmer-rr ,Jun 18 '04
Pros: None
Cons: Didn't last very long
My Black & Decker stopped working after about a year of weekend use. The motor simply slowed down and stopped grinding the beans

Nice grinder for the money
by mackscrew ,Jun 08 '04
Pros: Small, stores easily. Good grind range. Dependable. Easy to clean. Great price.
Cons: I'm being picky when I mention static. It's not that bad.
I've had this grinder for over a year now and it works quite well. Grinds beans fine enough for a decent espresso, as well as, for coffee. It does deliver static but not so bad that I can't live with it. The machine is easy to clean (I use a small brush from Bed Bath & Beyond, $1.00). Never fails to grind beans. Small footprint so stores easily too. Setting the grind is really easy, simply twist the bean hopper to the desired setting. Yeah, I'd love to buy a $200+ grinder but until this one dies why bother? If you want a good entry level grinder consider this one.

THE WORST design I could ever imagine.
by jeffgilchriest ,May 20 '04
Pros: Black; On/Off switch; Dial-in quantity
Cons: Weak motor; Horrible design; messy
This grinder is SO messy! Coffee grounds end up everywhere on the counter, the tray below the output cup fills with grounds which stick to the bottom of the cup which then flake onto the counter (again) when the cup is removed. The rubber LID on the output cup is poorly designed and grounds stick to its underside which (again) flake off onto the counter when it is removed to get at the coffee. I have had this for two months and hate it. The motor struggles quite a bit and seems to indicate it will fail soon. Let's hope so...then I can justify throwing the piece of junk in the trash. Very poor design work. I am really shocked at B&D for releasing this grinder. Please give me back my old Italian grinder; may it rest in piece after 15 years.

Absolutely deplorable in so many ways
by robertruizcom ,Dec 17 '03
Pros: None
Cons: Overall design and reliability and suitability to task -- all awful.
This is, without question, the worst coffee grinder I have ever tried. Not only did it arrive with a broken timer (the only way to get it to work is to push the button on and then off), but on fine grinds like espresso it clogs every single time and I have to dig out the opening with a shishkebab skewer before continuing (four or five times just to get enough for a few cafe au laits). Absolutely awful, and messy, and badly made. The reviews at amazon.com are even worse.

Not the best....
by krehbein ,Nov 10 '03
Pros: Price, timer, grind setting
Cons: Clogs, messy, too big for someone who grinds daily
Tried this after using a Braun blade style grinder for years. In theory, a Burr style grinder should be better, but this unit is lacking.

After a week of use, the chute the grounds come out of is clogging up. You need to clean it out before or after each use. Since this unit doesn't come with a cleaning tool your left to your own devices (fork? knife? toothpick?). I think the design flaw of this unit is that the chute if horizontal and as a result clogs easier.

Also, if your going to grind your beans then you'll probably do so every day. Problem is that the unit is large enough to hold several days of coffee. This may be good for some folks but is bulky and awkward for most people.

Lastly, as a lot of others have noted, the plastic seems to want to make the grounds stick! Very annoying.

Sorry, I wanted to like this grinder but can't recommend it. :o|
