Dropped back and punted!

by Mattersnot , Mar 12 '01
Pros: Cheap
Cons: Hard to install. Little or no phone tech support.
Being fairly good at this type of thing, I purchased this item with thoughts of installing it myself. The vehicle was a '99 Toyota Camry. Reading the manual,I thought that I needed an optional accessory since my car had a security system. Tried to call...

Bulldog AutoStart RS114

by smata67 , Jan 19 '02
Pros: Low price ($45 at Sam's); Works as advertised
Cons: Hard to install; No technical support; Documentation not accurate
I have to admit I like pre-warming my car in the morning. This system works. My defroster is a pushbutton, though, so it doesn't do everything I would like it to. If your car heating system is like that (if you can't just turn a knob and leave so when...

Pros: Very Affordable
Cons: Hard to install, no technical support
I bought this remote starter at wall mart for 80 $ CAN... At first, I wasn't sure of installing it by myself but Bulldog seemed to make it sound so easy that I considered to do it by myself. Anyways, the problems started when I realized how it was...

Buy another brand!

by espawl , Mar 06 '01
Pros: None
Cons: Difficult to install. Burned out starter motor
I bought a Bulldog remote starter for my Dodge Intrepid. My mechanic warned me about Bulldog remote starters malfunctioning and burning up the car's starter motor. I ended up buying a different brand from him and putting the Bulldog on the shelf in the...

Never again

by ithappenedtome , Sep 16 '02
Pros: Cheap
Cons: Zero tech support. Two separate units failed to work, ended up returning both.
I have installed car starters before (different make), and not encountered problems. Bulldog's video is useless, the manual is a little vague and tech support didn't return two phone calls or my email.

Got the darn thing installed anyway,...

Tough as a Bulldog-2 years and still going strong!

by jlandru4 , Dec 26 '00
Pros: great price, great tech support, practical for a good start on the day
Cons: takes awhile to install, may have to buy extra parts depending on the the feature
A friend of mine recommended this product to me for my 1995 Dodge Ram truck because he installed one on his girlfriends car and they absolutely love it. I decided to buy it because I thought it would be really great to have in the cold weather. ...

Great Product

by flimpo1234 , Oct 08 '02
Pros: Cheap, easy to install
Cons: None yet!
I read a lot of reviews yesterday before installing my RS122. A lot of people said it was hard to install or there was a lack of technical support. My experience is rather the extreme opposite. I bought this product on clearance, and it was missing...

Pros: Works better than I expected. Many years with the same unit in three different cars.
Cons: Installation isnt right on with color codes for wires, but still easy to install.
I installed my first one of these 7 years ago. Installed in about 3 hours, and worked great for 3 years. When I sold my car for a van I removed it, reinstalled it into the van and got another three years. Now I have the same remote ...

An Expensive Lesson
by lduf ,Feb 03 '05
Pros: Cheap
Cons: Not cheap in the long run.
I am the unfortunate owner of a Bulldog RS102 Remote Starter. The unit functioned well for about four months. One very cold evening my 99 Saturn was started with the Bulldog and my wife headed out to the dentist. She called me from the dentist's office saying that the car would not stop running.I told her to lock the car up and leave it running as the Bulldog would automatically shut the engine down after 20 minutes. She called me back 5 minutes later saying that the car had stopped running, there had been a puff of smoke come out from under the hood and now the car would not start.I later discovered that a connector at the Bulldog to the starter solenoid had melted. The starter motor solenoid was destroyed. This all cost me a $50 towing charge and $175 for a rebuilt starter. There was the potential for a car fire because the Bulldog is mounted in the car's interior.I would strongly recommend against the purchase of this product.

You get what you pay for!
by deca-7 ,Dec 21 '04
Pros: Cheap, easy to install, easy to program. Seems dependable. It does what its supposed to.
Cons: Cheap hardware, but what do expect for $50.00
I just installed the 3rd one this year (3 different vehicles). As far as remote systems go, this one was pretty straight forward. Not my usual choice but it's what the customers had already bought. I haven't heard back from any of them as far as problems go, so I'm assuming they are all working fine. Don't be discouraged when you read a review saying that the system was more difficult to install then they had expected. First, you shouldn't be installing this yourself unless you have experiance in diagnosing and repairing automotive electrical systems. I wouldn't be discouraged buy a review that says the system doesn't work properly either. Most of the systems (all brands) we diagnose for people that have installed them themselves and arn't working, usually end up being an installation error. All brands have defects from time to time. I wouldn't comment as to whether or not these systems are notoriously problematic after only installing 3 of them. These systems seem to work as advertised, they're just cheaply made. Good luck.

Avoid RS 102 like the plague
by migkiller ,Sep 23 '03
Pros: It is inexpensive at ~ $75 to purchase.
Cons: After a while, the system will become defective and burn out your starter motor.
Bought the RS 102E 8 months ago. The unit was a little difficult to install. It took about 3 hours. It worked for 7 months, then it fried my starter! The unit sends a constant signal to my starter to engage while the engine is still running. The result was a $120 new starter replacement! This is a repeat problem with Bulldog Security remote starters! Do not buy. Avoid like the plague.

Should be called BULLSH*T RS112
by sundelius66 ,Mar 12 '05
Pros: Cheap prices.
Cons: You get what you pay for.
Worked great for 6 months. Then at -5 degrees on morning, starter relay (on RS112) failed which caused my starter motor to continue cranking, with the engine running, for 15 minutes...un til I came out of the shower and heard it. $400 to troubleshoot and replace smoked starter motor. Zero response from tech support. I yanked the RS112 and tossed it. Not worth the hassle.

Too Much Trouble
by mint5jf ,Jun 14 '05
Pros: Has a remote, is an engine starter, cheap
Cons: installation instructions, illistrations, 15 sec. remote delay, no crank 2-5 times, drains battery
We installed the Bulldog remote starter and still can not get it to function properly. Everything is correctly connected but it does not let the car crank long enough.
It trys to crank the engine four or five times. Still nothing.
Our main problem is the car battery. Mind you, we just purchased this vehicle a year ago.
Anytime you leave the doors open (to clean the van our) or short periods of time the battery goes dead!
We are returning the product back to Walmart.
