Ben Harper...The Next Neil Young?

by lambchops, Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 50, Dec 26 '02
Pros: Amazing talent as a singer-songwriter
Cons: A few misses ("Less") and the the unrepresentative "Steal My Kisses"
Admitting ignorance is a difficult thing. But in the case of Ben Harper I am almost completely uninformed. See…it took me until the crossover single Steal My Kisses hit first student radio and then mainstream radio before this rock...

....burning to shine.....

by Stairway2Drew Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 500, Oct 21 '03
Pros: while some songs Shine.....
Cons: others crash and Burn.
To say that Burn To Shine suffers because Ben Harper doesn't seem to know where he wants to go with the album would be an unfair red herring. Harper's an awesome artist, but he *never* knows quite where to take an album. That's why he's Ben Harper. O ...

Outstanding talent and versatility

by steve_ate , Aug 27 '00
Pros: exceptional guitar talent, diverse influences
Cons: none
First off, if you haven't seen Ben live, make sure you check him out next time he comes your way. He almost never plays a song the same way and has the ability to lash out thundering Hendrix type solos on one song and then calm things down with a...

I Wanna Steal His Kisses

by joannavaught , Dec 12 '99
Pros: fantastic music.
Cons: not the Harper we're used to.
Ben Harper is sexy.
Now, you might read this and think, "Listen crazy, we're here to read a review of an album, not to hear about your romantic inclinations." But it is exactly his music that leaves me convinced that I need to get in my...

Someting so new & different

by DMB2step , Mar 27 '00
Pros: new sound, and more upbeat
Cons: not acoustic like his old stuff that first turned me on to him.
Hello, I bought this album because I've been a huge fan of Ben Harper for awhile. I must say though when i first heard the new album I didn't know what to think. At first when i heard Alone(the first song), I was excited because I thought it was going...

Ben is God

by stevpimp , Jun 05 '00
Pros: great music
Cons: none
Ben Harper is an up and coming artist with a style that can be compared to a mix of Bob Marley and Jimmy Hendrix. This is his fifth CD, and although it is not his best, it has reached the most popularity from the music's mainstream.
First of all I...

Ben Harper the artist

by Boderek , Jun 10 '00
Pros: Great guitar technic
Cons: N/A
I discovered Ben Harper about four years ago when I heard welcome to the cruel world playing in a cafe. Harper is great and he is constantly improving. His vocal range has gotten better and I don't see how he could improve on his guitar technics, but...

Ben Harper-Still Coming Strong

by Jondoe1482 , Jun 01 '00
Pros: Wide variety of tunes (even more so than previous albums) lots of great music
Cons: a deviation from his previous albums--adds more electric and distortion, but lots of traditional songs too
Burn to Shine is another hit for Ben Harper. This is his latest album and it rocks as all of his music does. I still rate "Fight For Your Mind" on top but this is also a good album.

"Burn to shine" has a lot of great...

Ben was already shining before the release of this AMAZING CD

by befreeee , Dec 09 '99
Pros: diversity (all of the songs sound different), soul, inspiration, Ben's grunts
Cons: it's very different from most of his other cd's
My Ben Harper craze all started three years ago in the mountains. I was in a van on the way to a rockclimbing site and my counselors put in a Ben Harper cd. Ever since I have been hooked to Ben Harper's unique sound and haunting lyrics. Burn to Shine...

A different Ben sound but still Excellent

by Dejahvu , Apr 10 '00
Pros: a new sound not found in his other albums
Cons: its becoming too popular and trendy, they play it in stores like Wet Seal and unfortunately, they don't even play the best songs on the album
As most Ben Harper fans note, this album is not like Ben's other albums. This album is much more upbeat and lively sounding. Although it is different from what I'm usually accustomed to hearing from him, I do think this is a great album. It's a great...

could the band be any more talented?

by neeks , Nov 26 '00
Pros: Totally different to anything on the market
Cons: my friend lost my burn to shine CD
Burn to shine is another example of the amazing talent Ben Harper and the Innocent Criminals have to express beautiful soulful music. After seeing the video for please bleed and being impressed by previous music released by the band I was curious to...

IT WON'T LEAVE YOUR CHANGER

by gavran8 , Jan 31 '00
Pros: excellent beginning to end
Cons: none
To say this is the album of the year is not overspeaking. This along with Beth Orton's new one are the albums that I listen to more than any other. From beginning to end Ben sings from the heart while the band plays their instruments to perfection....
