Carmine's, The way to Start or Finish a Broadway Show

by popsrocks popsrocks is a Top Reviewer on Epinions in Restaurants & Gourmet, Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 50, Jun 12 '06
Pros: Good food, huge sharable portions
Cons: Not a place for a romantic dinner.
There are a couple of Carmine's in NYC. The one reviewed here is in the middle of Times Square on 44th st and the perfect place to dine before or after a Broadway show. My wife and I are fortunate to have good friends from our church and town. ...

Carmine's in the Broadway District of NYC Serves Quite a Meal!

by deenaf Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 200, Apr 03 '04
Pros: You won't leave hungry and the food is delicious.
Cons: Fair service and family style serving is not for everyone.
If you are catching a show on Broadway in New York City, then I can certainly recommend eating at Carmine’s on 44th between 7th and 8th Avenues. I have always paired this legendary restaurant with the Broadway feel and was not disappointed when ...

Mangia! Mangia!

by glomarrone Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 200, Feb 05 '01
Pros: Delicious Southern Italian Specialties, large portions, attentive, friendly service, moderate prices
Cons: Busy, long lines, noisy
Carmine's is a very popular family-style Southern Italian restaurant best suited for large groups. Reservations are accepted only for parties of six and over. If you are dining in a smaller party expect waits of up to 2 hours during busy meal times....

Can you say "YUM?"

by wordsmithy , Apr 11 '05
Pros: generous portions, delicious food, fantastic service
Cons: if you don't make a reservation, be prepared to wait
Okay, so we were going to Manhattan, meeting my folks and I knew my father would want one night of Italian...so I did the research beforehand. We were staying right on Times Square, so Carmine's certainly seemed a winner from the reviews I read ...

Like garlic?

by mike-and-kate , Jan 15 '03
Pros: Large portions, great location for theatre goers, quality food
Cons: Perpetual 1-2 hour dinner wait (make a reservation!), Loud inside
Carmine’s is an Italian restaurant located in the heart of Manhattan’s Broadway district on W44th St. next to Times Square. My wife and I have eaten there several times. We try to get there at least once each time we go to the city. The only bad...

Carmines - An Experience!

by worththetrip , Dec 28 '02
Pros: Great Food, Great Atmosphere, In the Heart of the Theater District
Cons: No cons-know what to expect! Reservations key!!!
In the heart of the theater district you would like to say 'is this tiny Italian bistro'. Well there is nothing tiny about Carmine's. Not the restaurant, not the portions, not the crowds...this place is meant for those who have a healthy appetite for...

Carmine's

by samadust , Feb 22 '01
Pros: Romantic and atmospheric. Good service and food.
Cons: Menu's are on the walls far away from the seats. (?)
There are a couple of Carmine's around the city but this one is in the heart of the tourist and Broadway show district of Times Square. Right in the center of all of the bright lights and glaring ads, off to the side on 44ths street, half a block...

I was first introduced to Carmine's over a year ago by a friend who is currently living in Soho. Staying in the city on a break from North Carolina, I was lamenting the lack of good Italian food around my school. She suggested that we try this...

mensa mensa

by jillter , Apr 13 '01
Pros: Lots of food
Cons: Long waits, they won't seat you until all members of your party are present
Carmine's is a great place for a first time visitor to New York. Go for the atmosphere, go for the noise, go to order salad and share it with entire table of 10 and still have left over. It's an institution.

Don't take your new girlfriend's...

Great Family Place
by larduini ,Jan 07 '05
Pros: Large Portions and Location
Cons: Loud and filled with tourists
This restaurant is in a great location to go before or after a Broadway show. There are long lines and a long wait if you do not make reservations in advance. The portions are very large and are reasonable for NYC. The food is served family style and can be shared without an extra charge. I recommend the Shrimp Marinara. Note that each item on the menu will serve at least two. The food appears to be standard Southern Italian. While not gourmet it is very good. The place is great for large groups and families. Each time I have been here the service has been wonderful and the waitstaff wonderful. I would not recommend the place if you are looking for a spot for a romantic dinner for two. For any other reason, it's great.
