A half Truth
by bizbuy73 ,Aug 12 '06
Pros: makes good coffee - sometimes Cons: electronics and mechanical quality sucks
After one month the grinder no longer worked. After a year and a half it just stops in the middle of a brew cycle. You have to shut it off and turn it back on to get it to start brewing again, and even this doesn't always work. When it does work, it makes fairly good coffee. Don't know how this machine ever got rated as a top coffee maker.
It's a major project to clean it and I mean you need to clear EVERY part. If you don't clean it every time you make a pot of coffee, you risk overflow, spills and a general mess.
The coffee grinder collects steam as you brew and turns the entire grinder into a muddy mess resulting in more clogs.
In general the electronics are awful, it's very hard to clean and quite frankly don't trust it because it carries the Cuisinart Brand name.

This is expensive junk
by carlcnh ,Jan 09 '06
Pros: Looks pretty. Cons: Weak coffee, does not stay hot, messy cleanup, expensive!
After receiving as a gift and using this product for a couple of weeks, I can only conclude that those giving it good reviews must be on the Cuisinart payroll! The coffee is weak and barely hot enough right after brewing. After 20 minutes, it is tepid at best. Cleanup is a nightmare. New added instructions say to preheat carafe to get "hottest coffee." Hard to do when using the highly-touted automatic timer feature. Stay away from this one. Buy a $20 Mr. Coffee and a decent grinder and save yourself lots of money and aggravation. I feel bad that my girlfriend spent so much money on this piece of junk. Had I purchased it myself, it would have been returned after the first pot was brewed.

Do not buy this...I have had two and both broke.
by acnemaster ,Jul 21 '08
Pros: Keeps coffee warm without after burner Cons: Too many parts
I have had 2 break in 6 months
I received a new grind'n bew for Christmas. I was excited, I love good coffee. My last coffee maker was a vacuum coffee maker, great coffee but awful touchy. So I thought this machine would be the best of both worlds. Wrong...It made descent coffee but my machine broke in 3 months. I would fill the reservoir with water but only a cup or so would perk through. I would restart it, and another cup would flow through and so on. For some reason the machine always that the reservoir was empty and would stop cycling the water. I took it back and now 3 months later this one has the same problem. Cuisinart customer support said it is hard water. I de-scale it and this is not the problem. I know people with $10 coffee makers that still work fine after years. I am 0 for 2 with this machine.

Sleek, stylish, and DREADFUL coffee maker - Consider yourself warned.
by richbon ,Feb 01 '06
Pros: Good looks. Cons: Impossible to clean, weak coffee, and expensive.
I bought this coffee maker basically on the looks and the usually reliable Cuisinart name alone. Unfortunately, I didn't read the reviews on epinions until after I bought the contraption. The problems this coffee maker has are numerous and have been mentioned repeatedly by reviewers here (e.g., difficult and very time consuming to clean, big, expensive, and above all makes bad coffee).
Bad, weak coffee is really the bottom line here. For 150$, you would expect it would at least make good coffee. I think the problem lies with the automatic grinder grinding the coffee too coarsely - probably because of the possibility of clogging the basket during brewing.
Considering all the problems, I can't imagine why anyone would buy one of these.

Good coffee but coffee maker doesn't last long.
by seabee299 ,Apr 10 '07
Pros: Good coffee. Cons: Coffee maker barely lasts 1 year.
This is my second Cuisinart Grind and Brew coffee maker. The grinder quit on the first one after about a year of daily use. I upgraded to the Stainless Steel after that. I bought the DGB-600 from a military exchange overseas. I had been using it for exactly 1 year and the grinder went out on it. Cuisinart has a 3 year warranty on this coffee maker so I emailed them and explained what had happened. They wrote back saying they won't honor the warranty because we are living overseas and they don't recommend using a transformer or different power source. I wrote back explaining that we live in military housing with 110 power. They basically said "thanks for letting us know" but we're still not going to honor the warranty. I'm done with the Cuisinart coffee makers. I like the coffee from fresh ground beans but this coffee maker is not worth the trouble.

I swear at this coffee maker every single morning!
by cambridgejen ,Dec 06 '06
Pros: Looks fancy
Supposedly grinds the beans for you
Looks fancy? Cons: No pause and serve!!!!
Pouring design is horrendous
Glass carafe doesn't keep coffee hot
It's true!
OK, I will admit - I received this coffee maker secondhand, after an acquaintance gave up and got rid of it after a month. At the time I was THRILLED to be receiving a $100 coffee maker for free!
But you know, this machine is all form, no function.
There's no pause and serve!
The grinder broke almost immediately (although not being the original owner, I can't guarantee it was properly handled during that first month).
The glass carafe does not keep the coffee hot.
The stainless carafe, while it keeps the coffee hot enough, is very difficult to pour. I end up having to wash my counter every time I try pouring a simple cup of coffee.
Coffee should not be this challenging! It's early in the morning and I'm tired!

Makes a simple operation complex
by simonides ,Jan 02 '06
Pros: Makes coffee. Timer nice in the morning if you like violent noise. Cons: Expensive, high maintenance, big, noisy, hard to clean, unnecessary.
Although I love my Cuisinart food processor, and like their cookware a lot, this is a pointless product. It is big, noisy, expensive, and 5 parts are in need of cleaning after every use, without making coffee any better than a simple French press or modest drip machine. Useless for large gatherings, because it must be thoroughly cleaned after each pot (water and steam get into the grinding mechanism). Cleaning requires some care, since the parts are complex, with lots of little corners. Epinions makes you state a price and evaluate durability, but I am guessing on both questions (this was a recent gift).

Good idea but too much trouble
by kristincarroll ,Jan 16 '08
Pros: Does keep the coffee warm for hours. Cons: Too much work and clean up. Takes up too much space.
I thought this was a good idea, combining everything into one appliance but there are a couple of things wrong with the plan.
1. You can't determine the size of the coffee grind. As soon as it is small enough to be flung through the divider holes then it leaves the grinder.
2. Coffee gets stuck everywhere. Inside the grinder and inside the path of the coffee to the filter so you can lose quite a bit of the coffee en route. I usually open everything up and swipe it into the filter.
3. The hot water creates steam everywhere inside the the machine and grinder thus compounding the problem with the coffee getting stuck.
4. The hinge device on the door that opens and lets the filter mechanism out seems delicate. If this breaks then the entire machine is useless.

Grind N' Spill
by drsides ,Mar 27 '07
Pros: Thermal carafe, fresh coffee. Cons: Unnecessarily complicated, very easy to make a mess, not well made.
I really wanted a coffee maker with a built in grinder for a long time. When I found this one at costco for $100 I was really ecstatic. My hypothesis was that having a grinder would save me a step during the coffee making process. Wrong. This coffee maker has a LOT of parts and it actually makes the process more complicated. Out of four or five batches of coffee that I made with this maker, I managed to make three big messes for one reason or another. I also managed to have the top come off while pouring into a cup. The piping hot coffee spilled all over my hand. nice.
Oh, one good thing about it... they say that it is easy to clean and it is. Good thing since there are a lot of parts that will need to be cleaned!
I traded it in for a Krups 5mf5-14 and love it for all the reasons that I cant stand the grind 'n spill.

Sorry, it looks good, BUT........
by supavan ,Aug 20 '07
Pros: It's pretty just sitting there Cons: It's a pain to clean and the coffee isn't any better.
I have owned the coffee maker for less than a year and it is broken. You know what? I'm kind of glad. No Really this coffee maker is very labor intensive, hard to clean and in one word a Pain. I have a small grinder that is separate from a regular drip coffee maker and it does a much better job grinding and its a breeze to clean. Two thumbs down on this coffee system.

Not So Hot
by tooner2 ,Oct 14 '08
Pros: Coffee tastes freshly brewed Cons: Labor intensive if you like hot coffee
The coffeemaker does NOT have a warming plate. If you like your coffee hot, then you must warm the thermal carafe with hot water and let it sit a few minutes before making coffee. Personally, that's too much trouble. I'm taking mine back.

Good cup of coffee with a little work.
by prconsulting ,Dec 01 '06
Pros: Carafe keeps coffee hot. Taste is consistent. Programming feature is a plus. Cons: Grinder is loud and must be cleaned each time. Coffee filter pops out occasionally.
This product was given to me as a gift. I am an avid coffee drinker - typically I drink 2-4 cups per day, so this is a good product as far as continuous use. I have gone through several coffee pots over the last few years and I expect to continue using this one for at least one year longer than my typical use, if not more. It has held up quite well considering I use it seven days per week. The internal water filter is easy to change and the coffee taste is consistent. The timer/programming mechanism is easy to use. I like the feature that allows a smaller portion of beans to be ground if you only need a cup or two. Grinder portion must be cleaned after each use, as the steam cakes the ground coffee that is left behind. Occasionally the coffee filter pops out during the brewing cycle which causes a large water spill.

NOT WORTH THE MONEY.
by ad865 ,Jun 12 '08
Pros: Looks of the Item, Grinds coffee fresh. Cons: Leaks after a while, timer/ clock goes out, brews half pots.
We got this item and now it leaks water all over the place, it brews half pot, and the clock/timer has gone out. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS ITEM. In addition the Company does not stand by their product, their customer care rep. was rude and did not care or gave to much interest. He said he can't do anything for us on this. So if you do decide to go this product anyway, be ready in a little while to replace this Item, Model DGB-600BC. Thanks All, I just don't want this same thing to happen to people who buy this item after all it's not cheap either, THIS IS NOT WORTH THE MONEY AT ALL. Very unhappy.
