This little chimney starter is the best one on the market. I know there are many imitations out there but the metal, the construction and the number of air vents (holes) make this the best one for me.
The instructions state that all you have to do is crumple two full sheets of newspapers, light them and the charcoal gets going. A modification that I've read about and use says, loosely crumple one full sheet of newspaper, light it and when it burns out, quickly crumple another full sheet and light it. I found that the charcoal starts better using this method.
A couple of pointers: fill the chimney so it's about 3 quarters full and watch out for hot embers that fall from the bottom of the chimney if you're carrying hot coals from one location to another. I usually get my chimney going on a cinder block and then move it to my grill when ready.
