Pros: does what it should do, fairly easy to figure out.
Cons: Older models may have sound sync issues, buy a newer one.

I got one of these back in 06 for xmas, and had issues with sound sync in the extended record mode (4 hrs) but sent the unit back under warranty, and it was replaced with a new unit that I have not noticed any issues on, so I think they figured out how to fix this.

I've recorded lots of shows and movies off the Tivo and have had good results.

When playing back a DVD-R disc recorded from a VHS tape on my VCR, the sound and picture gradually got out of sync. I did not check if the same happens when recording from TV or on other disc types. I returned the unit for a refund. I had the same problem with another brand a few weeks ago, so maybe it's a common problem.
Another complaint I had (not a defect) was the size of the zoom indicator which is so big it is distracting and stays on the screen as long as zoom is selected. It has 3 zoom in and 3 zoom out levels and you have to go through all 6 levels to get back to normal.
