Pros: It's Depeche Mode--a haunting, gothic musical declaration. Cons: I had to wait four years between albums for Exciter!
"Taken in by the delicate noise
Knocked to the ground by the subtle thunder
Shackled and bound by the sound of your voice
Wandering around in silent wonder--
What chance did I have...?" --The Sweetest Condition
Pros: Great lead-off single "Dream On" Cons: Nothing else sounds that new or "exciting"
From the opening phrases of Depeche Mode's newest album Exciter one may be led to believe that things have changed for the band. Sure there's still the underlying synthesized keyboards and drum machines, but there's something new - an acoustic...
Pros: A refreshing redefinition of the band. Cons: Not enough vocals by Martin Gore.
Thats right, thats right... First thing you do is open the booklet. Careful! Its black; its always black, ever since Violator. Youll leave fingerprints everywhere. Careful! Look at the pictures, see how much the band has changed...
Pros: Production, Singles, Performance, Experimentation, & Vocals. Cons: Weak Instrumental Tracks, Songs that Drag, & Songs That Aren't Very Strong.
In 1981, the electro-pop Depeche Mode came to the music scene in Britain to launch a new movement for electronic music into the mainstream. Now twenty years later in the 21st century, Depeche Mode had arrived in the new century as elder statesmen for ...
Pros: Some great tracks Cons: Exciter? Why exciter?
I was really quite taken aback by this album, especially since I’m of the opinion that Depeche Mode produced all their best material in their latest releases, “Ultra” and “Songs of Faith and Devotion”. I think both these albums are, simply put,...
Pros: the single "Dream On", "Shine" and "Freelove". Gahan's and Gore's voices have never sounded stronger. Cons: I almost fell asleep on it. A very dull album overall.
I got a listen to this album two months before its official release -- a friend, knowing that I liked Depeche Mode, thought I'd be interested in an advance copy of their first album of new material in quite some time (since 1997's Ultra), and...
Pros: An expertly produced album that was enjoyable and felt unlike other 2001 releases... Cons: ...But wasn't at all unlike anything that Depeche Mode has already done.
I bought Exciter when it was released, mainly out of curiosity - I had picked up Violator only a few months earlier, and in that time it had grown to become one of my favorite synth-pop albums. Enjoy The Silence and Policy Of...
Pros: Some excellent songs and sleek textures Cons: Often lacking in energy
Dave, Martin, Andrew . . . you listening, Andrew? This concerns you too, you know. How do I say this? Okay, here’s the situation: Your new album has a number of really, really good songs, but there are reasons why it should not have been called...
Pros: "I Feel Loved" is the only possible hit on this disappointing package. Cons: Well, to paraphrase one of their songs here - comatose...almost.
Don't let the title of Depeche Mode's latest effort fool you. The only thing "exciting" about this consistently dreary effort is that it is their first album of new material in four years. Still, that's not saying much.
Pros: A distinct maturing in the DM sound. Cons: Might be a little gentle for some tastes.
When you are dealing with a band as prolific as Depeche Mode it can make you wonder when the magic will run out. After all there are few bands who can claim to have released material as consistently good as this since the early 80’s.
Pros: Depeche Mode Live...need I say more! Cons: Alan Wilder not being there....shows always seem too short.
As we all can read the ratings from other epinions about the album itself I would like to give everyone a review from the LIVE standpoint. Here is my take on the Depehce Mode concert that I attended on Sunday, July 8th in Tampa, FL.
Pros: 'Dream On', 'I Feel Loved' Cons: 'LoveTheme', 'Easy Tiger', a sometimes tendency towards blandness
Hang on a second, Dave Gahan wants a word. "Can you feel a little love?" He asks plaintively. It's a bit tricky. When the Essex Kings of coffee-table S&M last came round this way they had an album so dire that my friend, a much bigger 'Mode' fan than me...
Pros: Some beautiful songs... Cons: Some songs lack inspiration/backbone...
I never thought I'd say something bad about DM - but I have to - when I first heard the album I thought it was decent, but my opinion's gone a little further south since then...
I was really looking forward to 'Exciter' - 'Dream On' is a fair...
Pros: Excellent, mature sound. A must for your DM collection. Not for kids, though... Cons: Would like a couple of DM-style rythmic tracks...
I grew up with DM for the past 13 years, and, although not a fanatic, I've always bought their albums and enjoyed every second of their MUSIC...
EXCITER is, IMO, on of the BEST DM albums overall, even if it has to compete with Violator or Black...
Exciter signals a new era of creativity for Dave Gahan, Andrew Fletcher and Martin Gore. The sounds (electronic and acoustic) are strikingly varied, t...More at Buy.com Marketplaces
