Pros: Fast text printing, beautiful color for brochures & reports. Cons: HP installation software has limited options, doesn't always work well, forces unwanted software installation.
I purchased the 5940 InkJet printer to replace my home office printer. While I looked at other brands at the store, I've always had a good experience with HP printers, so I wound up buying the 5940 over comparable printers by Canon and Epson. I paid $89 ...
Pros: Fast printing, nice looks, HP reputation and durability. Cons: Forget that paper-catching arm just once and you'll never forget again!
So far, I love this printer. I'll get to the specs in a minute, but for now, let me give you a warning. With the fast black text printout of this thing, be sure to extend the paper out tray arm... because it will shoot the pages out at lightening speed ...
Pros: It is in fact shiny. Cons: Excessive Paper jams and cannot print envelopes without reconfiguring entire printer.
I purchased the HP 5940 to replace my worn out Epson printer for my home office. I have had good experience with HP printers in the past -- thought I made a good choice. Not if you want good paper feed -- it will jam without even the slightest ...
Pros: Looks pretty. Cons: Bad paper feed, bad print margins, bad support.
The HP DeskJet 5940 is the worst printer I have ever had the misfortune to use. I have had the printer little more than a month and the paper feed has deteriorated to the point where the thing is unusable. If it does feed, it jams. It's not down to ...
Pros: Solid. No cat access. Cons: EVERYTHING ELSE.
This is the worst piece of home electronics I have ever owned and that's including an old junker fan I got at a second hand store that shorted out and almost burned my house down. At least with that thing I knew it was a piece of ---- when I bought it. ...
The Printer that Wouldn't Print by webducky ,Oct 12 '06
Pros: Cost was under $100. Text printing is good. Cons: The paper feed doesn't always catch the paper; it will not print envelopes. (see update)
Problem #1 I bought this printer in January of this year, and almost right away I had problems with it not feeding paper in correctly.
Problem #2 Printing envelopes. With just one envelope in the printer, it feeds in, gets ready to print and then just stops. At that point, the ink and advance buttons flash and there is nothing to do but address the envelope by hand.
****UPDATE***** I did call HP and I am happy to report that the printer now prints envelopes. What seemed to be the problem (after going through the whole flow chart with the her) was one setting that needed to be unchecked.(I don't remember what it was!) I would strongly suggest calling tech support for HP before giving up on this printer. The number to call is 800-474-6836. One thing you might like to know too, is that the tech support person you get has been trained to troubleshoot on your model of printer. Mine was very knowledgeable and patient with me, and I was with her also. It really gets you better results to be pleasant, remember that.
I paid well over 100.00 for this printer. Initially it did an acceptable job. The photos tended to have minute, horizontal lines in places with merely passable image quality. It was very quiet and quick. Over time it became noticeably louder and began to experience numerous paper feed jams. I ran this by HP Customer service and followed every recommendation. I cleaned rollers, replaced ink cartridges, reinstalled drivers and did something called a ten-print page with no satisfaction. The techs essentially threw up their hands and said they couldn't help. Naturally the sub-par warranty had recently expired. It soon began to jam so frequently it was utterly useless. It is now in printer heaven. I cannot recommend this model of printer at any price, new or used. Steer clear. HP customer service was apathetic at best. I plan to buy a Canon printer and am reading more reviews on Epinions.com
Pros: The body style is attractive and the set-up is simple. Cons: Worst printer of all time.
I usually like HP products. I run a small business and own about 20 printers. I recently tried out the HP Desk jet 5940 and I must say, it is not only the worst printer I have ever owned, it is probably the worst THING I have ever owned. I hate it. I have to feed it every sheet or it jams. It is always acting up. Don't buy one of these they suck.
Pros: quick, quite, economic, easy to use Cons: the power adapter is a transformer box which can get in the way a bit
A really decent printer in my oppinion
i bought this about 3 months ago and i have not been dissapointed yet.
its sleek, smooth and pretty quite.
this is in my oppinion one of the best printers for personal use of the market at the min.
the cartridges are an absolute dream they last quite a long time. i only just changed my colour i have had it 3 months using it everyday to print photos posters etc. i hvae yet to change the black cartridge either its still half full.
Good printer, fast, never jams, nice color. by emberts ,Mar 10 '07
Pros: Fast, nice color. Cons: Ink cartridges don't last long and are expensive to replace.
I seem to be one of the few that has not had any problems with this printer. I've had mine for about a year and have printed a lot of pages. It has never jammed the paper - not once. It prints on cheap paper, it does labels, and it feeds envelopes with no problems. The color is very nice, photo quality is good. It is fast. Software installation was quick and painless. The only negative thing I can say about this printer is that the ink cartridges are not very big and do not last very long. They are also expensive to replace.
I recently bought this printer because it received good reviews in the trade rags. I agree the printer is solid, but what was HP thinking with this software. Big company (similar to Sony with privacy rights), gone wrong.
- It changed the XP login
- It is painfully slow to load the software
- The HP software reduced the performance of my computer
These are the things I know. I suspect there is unsuspecting software installed on my computer. That is before I removed this stuff.
Pros: Prints pretty pics if you can get it to do so Cons: Too many to list- buy a different printer. NOt worth eht $$ for the hassle
This printer is by far the worst I have ever purchsed. The paper jams all the time- I refuse to feed it one sheet at a time which is when it works sometimes. You can not print anything other than a full size sheet unless you change everything so printing just a 4x5 photo is a lot of work close to impossible. So dissapointed in the printer that I may run over it with my car
Pros: Print speed, build quality, good ink, HP reliability Cons: Average photo prints for a photo printer, no memory card reader
I bought a new Apple iBook, so the Apple Store offered me a shiny new printer with a rebate. I picked out the 5940. The print quality is average for a photoprinter, but the speed that it spits out a print is impressive. Text printing is where this printer shines. The text is clear and the ink comes out dry. Something I didn't have on my old Canon. The ink is reasonably priced and fairly easy to find. I would have loved a card reader, but I guess thats what PictBridge is for...whatever that is.
This is a great printer for normal use, it's even good for a small business.
