When I bought my open-box bookshelf stereo system that lacked a remote, I asked the salesman for a remote. He showed me the Jensen JR-500. I have had many universal remotes in the past but none as feature rich as this one.

This remote handles 5 devices and works superbly on my Sony TV, stereo and DVD player. It also works on my Panasonic VCR and Bell Expressvu satellite receiver. I've had multi-brand remotes before but they usually only control basics like volume and channel up and down or direct input with the number pad. I was extremely pleased that I could even set up programming on the VCR using the menu button. My last multi-brand remote did operate my satellite receiver but did not operate the on screen guide other than to be able to scan the guide. I then had to exit out of the guide and manually key in the number of the channel I wanted to view. The Jensen remote acts just like my original satellite remote. It operates all the features on my other electronic devices as well. I am really impressed with this product. At first I didn't think it was controlling the volume on my stereo receiver but you just have to follow the directions and unlock the volume control for the receiver. The default setting is to lock the volume for the TV only no matter what mode button you select.
