Pros: a classic New York Deli experience Cons: crowded and noisy
It seemed to take us forever to get to our eating destination that Sunday afternoon. We decided to try Katz's Deli, a New York institution, for lunch that day since we were in the mood for a tasty deli experience. So we hopped on the subway to go ...

Pros: Pastrami, good Lower East Side location. Cons: Iffy service, and somewhat high prices.
The Lower East Side has changed a lot these past several years, I’ve noticed, especially in the area just below Houston Street, and just east of Allen. Here, this old bargain hunter’s paradise has become a much more trendier place to window shop,...

Pros: Great food and huge portions. Cons: Somewhat pricey.
New York City is famous for its delis. There are landmarks like the Carnegie Deli and the Stage Deli, both in the mid-town area, and of course, Katz’s Deli on the Lower East Side.
Katz’s Deli, located at 205 East Houston Street (between Allen...

Pros: The canned cream soda. Cons: Tourists and success ruin an old time ethnic eatery.
Katz's deli is very popular with fat, greedy carnivores. It appears that they put about a half pound of meat in each of their overpriced sandwiches. We're talking pastrami on rye for nine bucks. Free pickle included.
Katz's has become a...

Pros: The World's Best Deli Cons: None, if you take it for what it is...decor and service if you don't
There's not much to be said about Katz's deli. Small Menu. Your basic deli fare. Or is it? Yeah, Franks and Specials are normal, and Knishes are your standard Deli style. So why Katz's??? Well, let's take a little journey...(bad sound effect...

Pros: Fantastic food, great prices, cute busboys Cons: Too far from where I live for daily visits
I remember the signs so well. From my first visit at age 8 to just last month when we trekked into the city on a Saturday. I adore Katz's Deli, and just not for the atmosphere. It reminds me of family gatherings when I was growing up. The food is...

Pros: Authentic Deli Food Cons: Located on the Lower East Side
Katz Delicatessen, (205 East Houston Street corner of Ludlow Street). In the 1980's I lived for a time less then a block away on Ludlow Street. Back then this part of town didn't have much to offer. It had seen better days. There were alot of burned...

Pros: Great, great deli! Cons: Location of the restaurant is dangerous.
Jewish style deli in New York cannot be beaten. This is true and real delicatessan made in the best manner possible. The sandwiches are piled a mile high with which ever meat you choose. The side orders of potato salad, cole slaw, or stuffed derma...

Pros: Pastrami like buttah...potato pancakes so good, I was looking for my baba in the kitchen! Cons: Sandwiched for tourists between NYLA and the Olive Garden for that authentic New Yawk feel.
Last weekend four friends dropped in from Montreal for their annual New York experience (TM). As graduate students, we are all specialists in crawling through the trenches of our respective cities finest budget dining 'holes in search of the Next Great...

Pros: The best hotdog in New York Cons: Let's clean the place up, shall we??
With all the hulabaloo about the Stage and the Carnegie and the 2nd Avenue, I feel the need to put in a good word for Katzs Deli on Houston Street.
As a native NY'er, I was raised on NYC hotdogs and, without a doubt, Katzs has the best hotdog...

Pros: A slice of Jewish lower east side history Cons: The food isn't always amazing.
Katz's is now best known as the place where Meg Ryan did her infamous scene in When Harry Met Sally--the one where she shows Billy Crystal how to, well, fake it. But at Katz's there's nothing to fake--it's the real deal, one of the last true New York...

Pros: Delicious Cons: nothing
This restaurant should be on everyone's to do the first thing I fly into New York City. This deli has not changed since it opened in the 40's. The same tables and chairs are there.
When you walk in,the server gives you a ticket. You then...

Pros: Best Pastrami Anywhere, late hours Cons: Lousy Fries
Katz's Delicatessen is a New York institution that serves the best Pastrami sandwich anywhere. Go up to the counter and put a buck or two into the cutter's tip plate, and watch that sandwich get bigger and bigger and bigger! Still, it's not the size...

Pros: A trip back in time Cons: The bathrooms are stuck in time too
Katz's is indeed the best looking, old-style deli in the city. The place just ooozes 1940's atmosphere. Old formica tables, cafeteria-style service and wise cracking guys in white aprons and hats carving up all your favorite deli meats.
The...

Pros: Pastrami, Pastrami, Pastrami Cons: Too bad not open 24 hours.
What I love the most about Katz's is their is no wait. The line moves as fast as you move, and move fast you must. Their are about 4 lines for sandwiches, 2 lines for hotdogs, 1 for beer, 1 for french fries, and 1 for sodas. The seating is communal...

Pros: The good thing was the Order Taker did not mess up our order or bill. Cons: The bad thing is Katz's Never Kloses! Just wait.
I think if I would have to go back to Katz's Deli ever again, I should take a razor blade so my Order Taker (waiter) can go ahead and slit their wrists and spare me from having to put up with their personalities or lack there of. As for the food, ...

Pros: You'll never leave hungry! Cons: Don't go for the ambiance; there isn't any.
I grew up a few blocks from Katz' Deli several decades ago. As children, my mother took me and my siblings to Katz' regularly for dinner in the days where there were old men behind the counters. In those days it was crowded but we always got a seat and...

Pros: Great food, great people. Cons: A bit expensive, tables are kinda small
In my many, many visits to NY I have only been able to visit Katz's Deli just once :o( But it was a great experience the only time I have been there. Reema, my wife, Ritika, our only child/daughter at that time, and a couple of our family/friends were there. We all shared all kinds of stuff. The waiter (I can't remember her name) seeing how confused we were suggested that we order a couple of different things and she would bring extra bread.
Any, I wish all the various things we had, but I don't :o( But everything we did were great. We did have the Motza Ball soup and the Pastrami on rye bread.
