Pros: well-designed and well-constructed Cons: added expense of new bedding, poor workmanship, "pillow" too soft
To tell the truth, we're of two minds about our Kingsdown mattress around my house - it's one of those "He said - she said" situations. So we decided to get a neutral third party to interview us about the mattress, and who's better qualified than the ...
Pros: firm support Cons: enormous, pillow top too soft
Over the river and through the woods, to grandmother's house we go. . . or in this case, my mother and father's house, to celebrate Christmas, feast on dozens of delectable little cookies, stuff ourselves silly with roast beast, and trade sibling...
Pros: Most comfortable bed I have ever slept on. Cons: Heavy

Pros: Very soft and comfortable, good support Cons: may be too soft for some, pillow top can be very warm

Pros: Hmmm.. the velvet top is soft to touch Cons: Sags some places - stiff in others, way overpriced, large size but no large comfort

Only good for the first month... by snarkyologist ,Nov 01 '06
Pros: There are no pros Cons: Expensive, heavy, sags in the middle,
UPDATE: 11/19/2006 I can't sleep it in overnight without something under the mattress (it's just too painful)so I can't get it to show a sag. Still looks new when it's empty. Guess I'm stuck with it.
UPDATE: 11/1/2006 I called Kingsdown after several months and they have taken a new tone. A helpful customer service rep offered to send me a kit with a camera in it and everything I would need to gather proof of my claim that the mattress is sagging.
April '05: It feels comfortable in the showroom. It slept well for the first 3 weeks or so. Then began to sag in the middle. The store where I bought doesn't exchange or refund. They count on the manufacturers warranty. Kingsdown will only exchange it if it sags more than two inches while you aren't in it. The pillow top makes it look very level and you aren't allowed to measure in the creases in the seams or indentations in the pillow top for warranty purposes. To look at it, it looks brand new. I've only had it a few months, but already regret buying it.
Pros: Pillow top, memory foam, latex 20 year warranty Cons: Little more than we expected to spend, $2400 for a king!
Was slightly hesitant to purchase a Kingsdown after reading some of these reviews, however, my husband and I agreed to purchase a King's Court from Mattress Giant and the bed is wonderful. We have had it now for about 8 months and we love it. My husband travels a lot with work and sleeps in hotels and always complains that the hotel beds really stink in comparison to our bed at home. I just had a baby and this bed made the pregnancy easier for me as well. Have recommended this particular bed to several friends, the ones that have purchased it really love it. We are trying to "convert" the rest of the people on the street.....
Long story short, we spent a couple weeks shopping around for a new mattress. The worst part was that we knew nothing about what to look for, and everywhere we went we heard different things from all the salespeople. We kept coming back to this one because of the feel of the bed bc we could not find one that felt so good anywhere else.
Always love returning home to my Kingsdown! by jonnashville ,May 13 '06
Pros: Very comfy. Soft, but with great suppport. Cons: Heavy. Expensive.
I've read the bad reviews, and the good. It seems you either love it or hate it. Possibly, folks are having problems with the lower-end of the product line, or not turning it as advised every 30 days.
I got their top of the line $3000 unit for $1000 4 years ago... clearanced display model.
I'm 6'7" and 245 lbs... and also had whiplash a few years ago, that has caused some chronic back pain. It felt like laying down on a cloud in the shop. No noticeable sagging, and my back pain is almost non-existent when using it until I sleep on a hotel mattress (even the ones in Marriots, etc.) that all now feel as comfortable as sleeping on the floor. All other beds now feel either too firm or too saggy. This mattress is one of the best things to return home to.
However, mine is a king size, and bloody heavy. I can turn the mattress by myself with a lot of effort, but anyone shorter would have a problem doing so. Then again, I turn it about every 90 days, and still no problem.
My wife and I bought a Kingsdown, Kingscourt model, queen size mattress and box springs about two weeks ago(March 2007)) from Mattress Giant. We both laid on the bed in the showroom and thought it was heaven;however, after having it delivered, it quickly became our nightmare.
After laying on the bed for about an hour, it sagged in the middle. We would have to pull ourselves out of the hole the next morning. We contacted Mattress Giant, who immediately directed us to the Kingsdown factory rep. The rep was helpful, asking my wife to describe ourselves, I am 6'4" 240, she is 5'2" 120; the rep said that might be a problem.
We went back to Mattress Giant and after some discussion, bought a Simmons Beauty Rest, Elant model queen bed and box springs. Now this is what I call a comfortable bed. We are back to sleeping all night and waking up refreshed.
In all, Mattress Giant was helpful and the factory rep did assist us in exchanging the Kingsdown nightmare. If you are close to the same size as your sleeping partner, Kingsdown might be alright, if not, you might want to buy something else.
Pros: We were very impressed with the comfort of this mattress in the store. Cons: We only wish that the mattress would hold up better. We gave it two chances.
We purchased our first Kingsdown mattress 2 years ago and within several months we had an inspector come out because the bed was sagging and we both had sore backs. There was no problem exchanging this mattress and we decided also to upgrade to a king size mattress and had no problem doing that. After sleeping on the king size mattress for several months the same thing happened - sagging and sore backs. Luckily we aren't having any problem with the store. The inspector came out the other day and said that if there is at least 1 and 3/4 inch sag the manufacturer will replace the mattress. Received a call a couple days later and we get to go back and pick out our 3rd mattress! Ridiculous. We will have to try out another brand.
Why not to buy this mattress! by alexemma ,Sep 16 '04
Pros: NONE Cons: Terrible back pain and no sleep!!!
My husband and I purchased this mattress back in Jan of 2001 on a buying trip to furniture capital of the world, N.C. We were given one of those test where you lay down and the computer reads your body language and they tell you what mattress to buy. Well let me tell you it's the worst sagging thing I've ever slept on. You have to flip it and rotate it a million different ways every 3 months and it always has a huge mound in the middle with dips on the sides where we sleep! It's on it's way out the door as soon as we move into our new house. My best friends husband works for Tempur-Pedic and we have stayed at their house on those mattress's and they are awesome. We currently have the pillows, but don't get the full benefit with the kings Down. Just to tell you how bad the mattress became we went out and got 15 concrete blocks with plywood to support that mattress and that still didn't work.
DORMO DIAGNOSTICS IS THE BEST!!!! by donnieandjen ,Nov 09 '06
Pros: comfortable, durable and worth every penny!! Cons: NONE!!
I have had mine for almost 2 years now and I've never felt better!! I had a mid range Sealy plush before and after 5 years it was time to upgrade already. After 1 1/2 years of testing I stumbled across Kingsdown!! I fell in love instantly and the saleswoman at Sleepy's was so helpful!!
I bought the #2 dormo, and instantly my lower and middle back pain were gone. I love it so much I am going to purchase another for the guest room and my daughter's room.
I would absolutely recommend this product to anyone. It changed my life as well as my husband's!! BUY IT!!!
my Kingsdown mattress has changed my life! by belew123 ,Jul 27 '07
Pros: 1) I now sleep the entire night.
2) My leg quit hurting at night.
Cons: 1) It is very heavy and hard to move.
I purchased a new Kingsdown mattress about 2 months ago. This has been a life changing experience. The salesman at Mattress Giant showed me many beds but the best was the Kingsdown Renaissance. I saw the price and wasn't sure at first, but when I found out they financed I made the purchase. Here it is 2 months later, and I can actually sleep thru the entire night, and I hadn't done that in years. I always sleep on my side and I was having leg pains that woke me up many times during the night. Those pains are now gone! When I wake up I feel like a million bucks. This purchase was worth every penny!
Pros: Soft but with firmness that is great for my back. No sag. Cons: Its a top line mattress - you will pay a little more.
I bought my Kingsdown Mattress when we got married 8 years ago. I came very close to almost by one from The Mattress Factory which I also believe makes and excellent product. But I settled on the Kingsdown Mattress when I laid down on one. The difference was notable. If you can do the trip to Kingsdown in Greensboro - It is well worth it. The customer service is fantastic and they delivered everything which was important to me. 8 Years latter and my Kingsdown Mattress is still just as great as the day I bought it. It has withstood 2 children jumping on it and a dog and cat that like to sleep with my husband and I.
Pros: All pros are negated by the bedding's short life expectancy. Cons: Over sized, heavy, high maintenance
The initial break-in period was of the KD king was delightful. The bedding was luxuriously comfortable. Then the first of the recommended monthly mattress turns - what a pain. Within a year I noticed a pitch and unevenness to the bed, the softness is still there but there's no support. In order to avoid the mattress' center ditch when two people are using the mattress, sleepers need to go to the extreme perimeter of the bedding to be "level". The bedding was expensive. Advise looking else where.
Back pain GONE! Cure for my fibromyalgia by cooperfi ,Nov 28 '06
Pros: GREAT SLEEP - CAN'T WAIT TO GO TO BED!! Cons: wish i had one years ago
I had a sealy pillow top before. I tossed and turned everynight. My husband and I were in such pain. Since sleeping on our dormo # 3 my back pain is gone and I have gotten off my meds for fibromyalgia. We LOVE our bed and THANK YOU SLEEPYS for really having us pick out the proper mattress. The test computer bed really set us on the right direction.
Pros: Very comfy and soft, vet supportive. Very pretty and thick. Cons: It's hot! Cost - $2300 for a queen
My husband and I had been having lower back and hip pain and decided it was time for a new mattress. I went to Sleepy's and found this lovely queen-size Kingsdown mattress. They tried to sell me the top of the line one, but I actually liked the base version better - the pillow top was not as fluffy.
We've only had this bed for a month and so far our pains and aches have disappeared! I used to wake up 4-5 times a night to switch positions because of pain and I don't anymore with the new mattress (I'm only in my 30's btw.) The mattress is a bit too warm though - I still need to get used to that. And we rotate the mattress every 2 weeks, but it's not heavy, just a little bulky. I will be curious to see if it sinks in the middle like everyone elses. Will update as time goes on, but so far so good. If you do buy this mattress, buy the stainproof mattress cover - Sleepy's insisted if i didn't and something happened to the bed, it would void the warranty.
Pros: Good concept and Kingsdown seems willing to back its product. Cons: Pillow top product needs improvement. It does not have good longevity.
We bought a Kingsdown king size Aurora double P/T. Initially it was like sleeping on a wonderfully soft floating cloud. But, after about 18 months the sagging was so bad that it was like sleeping in a man-made ditch. P/T bunched in places and sank deeply in other places. Getting out of bed is a new style of morning exercise that I don't recommend. But Kingsdown has agreed to replace the mattress, but only after we jumped through many hoops of taking pictures, filling out many forms, and lifting the mattress and box springs -- only to have the rep come out and do the same thing. We are 2 months into the process of getting the mattress replaced. We will see if the process of the actual exchange finishes any more smoothly.
We Love Our Kingsdown Mattress!! by aerosoro ,Jul 12 '07
Pros: ONLY BED WE WILL EVER BUY! Cons: Don't want to leave home!
My husband and I purchased a Kingsdown Renaissance mattress at the Galleria area Mattress Giant store in Houston just over 6 months ago...and I have to say it has been one of the best purchases we have ever made! I no longer wake up with pain in my hip like I once did and my husband has been sleeping throughout the night more than he ever has!! -(though he wouldn't admit it at first because he thought a good mattress shouldn't cost more than $1500).
The Mattress Giant salesperson was very helpful and informative about all the beds and assured us that we couldn't go wrong with Kingsdown Renaissance! He was right! We give Kingsdown an A+ and have recommended it to many of our friends. Thank You Kingsdown and Mattress Giant.
Once you buy it...you are stuck with it! by anndarcy ,May 23 '05
Pros: It's pretty... Cons: The entire mattress makes sleeping difficult and does horrible things to your back.
We were also talked into buying this mattress by a salesperson that stated all the FourSeason Hotels have KingsDown in their rooms. The number system was supposed to support my husbands back, blah, blah, blah...$3000 plus to spend one year in sleeping hell. The mattress slumps where you sleep leaving a huge hill in the middle of the bed. I rotated and flipped the mattress per instructions (which was a huge task with our king size mattress) to no avail. I contacted the store that sold us the mattress and they referred me directly to Kingsdown, who referred me to their rep for our area. I talked to the rep twice and listened to his excuses for the bed not working out. I asked him to come inspect the bed to consider a refund of our money. He never showed up and never returned our call again.
We now sleep on a SleepNumber bed (which is awesome). The delivering company hauled off our very expensive mistake. A company that manufactures expensive mattresses should at the very least have some sort of customer service.
Sleepy's Is A Scam For The Rest of Your Life by nc9c1123 ,Feb 08 '07
Pros: Comfortable Bed, great night sleep Cons: 20 Year Warranty might be a scam.
The Kingsdown Dormo is very comfortable. We purchased the bed a year ago from Sleepy's and the bed did not get delivered on time. Finally after 4 days of rescheduling the bed arrived. The damn bed has been squeeking ever since. A year later I decided to get the bed inspected, and the tech found the mattress to be defective. I went back to Sleepys in CT. and spoke with the DM Joe. A Big cocky Loser. He basiclly did not care that my bed was defective. Oh ya, the replacemnet cost under warranty he said would be $500.00. Hello!, what type of warranty is that.
The bottom line, Sleepy's sucks.
If you go to Sleepy's you can wheel and deal for a lower price than they offer. Better yet, Ehtan Allen sells private label Kingsdown Beds under the Ethan Allen brand.
Avoid Kingsdown (and pillow tops!) by tnmats ,May 27 '05
Pros: Comfortable for the first 2-3 years. Cons: Sags after the 5th year, warranty is worthless.
We've had this mattress for 7 years now, and it's sagging way too much to be of any use. The padding Kingsdown uses will mat down within a few years, and you get a hammock effect sleeping in this bed. If you're a side or stomach sleeper, it feels lousy to say the least and you'll get frequent headaches/backaches.
Initially, these mattresses are great. They offer just the right blend of support and softness. After that first 4-5 years, they just sag. And the 'lifetime warranty'? What a joke. Our mattress sags nearly 2", but since it's shy of the 'industry standard' 2", Kingsdown refused to replace the bed.
I don't think the innerspring is sagging, but with that expensive pillowtop sagging, who cares. The bed is shot.
I'd also like to add that this could happen to just about any plush/pillowtop mattress; that plush padding mats down over time, making the mattress seem to sag.
Two holes in the Cloud!!! by richports ,Dec 22 '05
Pros: Soft and comfortable at the beginning Cons: Too expensive for the hassle.
Hi,
I have a three years old Kingsdown Golden Cloud Pillow Top and it already sags on each side of the mattress. The inspector shows up one night and determine to have 2" depression on my wife's side and mine. Kingsdowns agreed to replace the mattress with a comparable mattress (not the boxspring). I will get a new mattress without pillow top hoping to have better results. I've been having lots of back pain and had to put plywood in between to have a firmer set. I recommend this in the meantime. Like on other reviews its a shame that this sets cost so much and we have to go thru this pain.
I wish we'd read reviews before we'd bought one. by propinquity ,Oct 12 '07
Pros: It's a beautiful mattress and delightfully soft. Great for one person for one night. Cons: Too soft. Too wobbly. No sheets fit.
I have unbelievable neck and back pain. I wake up every morning and several times in the night with my arms asleep and stabbing pain in my neck. I now have to take sleeping pills for insomnia. Every time my husband moves an inch it feels like an earthquake.
When we bought this mattress three years ago, we were like the others - it felt like like softest thing ever. Like a cloud. For the first month, I went to bed every night thinking I was the luckiest woman alive. Until a month ago, I was afraid to tell my husband that we had made such a huge mistake because I didn't want him to get angry.
We're getting a new mattress next week. We're going back to Sleep America. The new sales guy said that we shouldn't have been sold this mattress with the vast difference in our weights. Too late now.
I am in LOVE with my Kingsdown bed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! by jewels33 ,Oct 09 '07
Pros: I like every thing about this bed. Cons: There is nothing that I dont like about my bed.
I purchased my Kingsdown Kingscourt is about 2.5 years old and I am still in love with it. I sleep fantastic and wake up feeling refreshed. I really do not understand all the complaints about this mattress company. They make top of the line quality beds. Some times people who are used to sleeping on low quality beds are not used to good quality and they think the bed is poorly made. However, if given a chance and taken care of properly Kingsdown will last a lifetime and you will sleep like an angel.
The sales person can be at fault in alot of these cases. Not every one is suited for a Kingsdown mattress. I would suggest that you do as I did, research all of your choices before letting some one talk you in to something that is not right for you.
KINGSDOWN IS FAULTY - SAGS LIKE A POOL by amycasey ,Nov 15 '05
Pros: none Cons: lying cheating sleepys
i purchased this mattress for $2K and it started sagging after 3 months. I am a 5'5 woman weighing 120 lbs, and the mattress indents like a POOL! Sitting on the edge of the bed hurts the back of the thighs. It is ridiculous. Sleepy's refuses to replace it since it is after 30 days, and their inspector claims the mattress is 'stained', thereby voiding the manufacturer's warranty. I could not see this 'stain' with my bare eye, but the inspector told me that he is instructed that 'any slight discoloration' warrants a stain, and thereby, VOIDS the manufacturer's warranty. There are several others on this site who have had similar complaints. Please email me if you are interested in participating in a class action suit: epinions@amycasey.com

Kingsdown and Mattress Giant...Boooooo!!! by bunzie ,Jul 01 '05
Pros: Very tall and stately. Cons: Sags on both sides...difficult/painful to roll over. No support...wake up in pain.
Just like the other poster, we've had the same problems with both the Kingsdown mattress AND Mattress Giant. Our top of the line Kingsdown is only one year old. The mattress sags on both sides. Rolling over in the middle of the night is like crawling out of a grave. You can see the body impressions clearly. Even so, the field claims guy told us it was only "close" to the condition that would warrant replacement. Today we got our rejection letter from Mattress Giant. They say the indentations in our piece of crap mattress are "normal body impressions."
We will NEVER AGAIN spend thousands of dollars on a top of the line mattress in the mistaken belief that you get what you pay for.
Now, I'm going to call Kingsdown directly and let them know how I feel. Wanna bet they got bought by some conglomerate and nobody cares...if anybody ever did care in the first place???
Really comfortable. We sleep much better. by ncjeremy ,Feb 25 '06
Pros: by far the most comfortable bed we've ever owned Cons: not cheap
My wife and I actually found this bed after staying at a really nice hotel. It was the BEST night sleep that we ever had, but we didn't realize that it was a Kings Down mattress until we talked to some people who had stayed there before.
Apparently, they sell these mattresses through a bunch of hotels but if you buy it in a store, you get measured for the bed. Make sure you get measured for it!!!
We have the Partner Perfect bed. My wife is much smaller than me, and her side feels really different (a little too hard for me). It's like those sleep number beds except they actually make the mattress for you.
This was a lot more than I would have normally paid for a mattress. If I hadn't already slept on one I probably would not have bought it. They are not cheap, thats really my only complaint. It;s worth the money though.
I don't think we realized how badly we were sleeping before we got this bed. We're really happy with it.
Kingdown Dormo 21 or Kingdown Plush Sense 21 by reneeminich ,Jan 24 '06
Pros: Extreme comfort with good support. Cons: A bit expensive, I paid $1499.99 at Sleepy's for a Queen size.
I recently purchased the Kingsdown Dormo 21 from Sleepy's. I have been sleeping like a baby every night since my new mattress was delivered. I have read many negative reviews on the Kingsdown mattresses, but so far I have not experienced any of these problems. It is the most comfortable mattress I have ever slept on. I look forward to climbing into bed each night - it's heaven! (And I mean climbing, since this mattress is so high!) I will update my review in a few months and let all of you know if I am still in love with my mattress in a few months.
Pros: High quality material Cons: too soft,I purchased a firm mattress, sagging in the middle do you research!
I bought a King size Royal York (Firm ) mattress from Mattress Mart in Ottawa, Canada. One word 'Sucks', it was supposed to be the better brands, higher quality latex foam pillow top. But the mattress became soft after a month and I have followed manufacturers instruction on rotating every month. This is my second Kingsdown mattress, the first one was too plush so I exchanged it within 90 days.
I like a firmer bed, the quality is great but the bed is too soft, sagging in the middle and my neck hurts in the morning. My girlfriend loves it but I hate it, I 'd rather sleep on the couch. Definitely not firm and do not buy Kingsdown. Do your research and look at Simmons or Serta, I am stuck with this lousy mattress and I am trying to contact Kingsdown company, I hate it! I paid alot of money for nothing. I wish a representative would give my money back so I can buy a better mattress and sleep again.
Kingsdown company please call me, I looked on the web and I can't find you.
Mattress Giant and Kingsdown by fenwayrazzi ,Jul 10 '07
Pros: Comfort, Comfort, Comfort Never slept better, never felt better Cons: I did not have it 20 years ago!
I bought my Kingsdown Kings Court 5 months ago and I could not be happier with the purchase that I have made! I bought my bed from Dan in Peabody and he was very helpful. I was looking for a firm mattress for support and Dan educated me on the new technology that Kingsdown has developed and that great support can come with great comfort. When I first received my mattress set I must admit I had back pain from the new mattress. I was explained in the store that this might occur and to give at least 2 weeks to get adjusted to the new bed. Well I did that and I do not know how I ever slept on my old to firm mattress! Thank you Dan and Thank you Kingsdown! You have actually changed my life for the better! I am going to tell all my friends that Kingsdown is the best investment that I have ever made..
Kingsdown Sues Us For Complaining!! by jet123 ,May 09 '05
Pros: none Cons: You get sued if you complain.....
Yep, my wife and I have been summoned to an Alamance county, NC court to answer Kingsdown suit. They want the court to "affirm" that they followed their warranty claim procedures and that we did not. Seems that they're hanging their hat on the fact that not one of their so-called "inspectors" was allowed to see our badly deformed, three year old Kingsdown mattress. At nearly $3,000 we thought Kingsdown was an honorable company, at least that's what the Mattress Giant store manager told us when he sold us another Kingsdown set. We filled out all the warranty forms, took all the pictures they wanted and they still declined our claim. When I told them where they could see the bed they didn't even try. Now we're being sued........great company, huh?
I am having the same issue with Sleepys/Kingsdown. I spent $1500 on a King set. Within a few months, the mattress visibly sagged. My back began to hurt. We finally got an inspector out here who must have doctored the report to claim that our bed only sagged an inch. It needs to sag 1- 1/2inches to qualify for an exchange. When I measured the sag it was at least 2 inches. The policy is that I have to wait 60 days before another claim. After reading this forum as well as countless others, I am screwed like everyone else. The inspector will claim to find mold or a rip voiding my warranty should I monitor his measuring this time around. On one of my several phone calls to 1-800-Sleepys, I asked a rep how many mattresses actually have been replaced? She answered "several."!??!? After thousands of failing mattresses they have replaced "several." If someone is thinking about a class action, let me know -- mince1@yahoo.com
I Love MY KINGSDOWN BODY SYSTEM by truth0726 ,Jul 22 '06
Pros: We have had back pain for years, this is the only thing that has helped!!! Cons: Don't trust your most valued furniture to a transnational moving company.
We moved to California from New York. During the move our mattress was damaged. My husband and I could not find our Kingsdown mattress in California, so we bought a Simmons...BIG MISTAKE!!! It caused backaches in my husband and I almost immediately, to make matters worse the mattress was found to be defective in just 3 months. My husband and I went to Sit' N Sleep to pick out a new bed and much to my pleasure we both noticed Kingsdown in their showroom.
We immediately told the salesman we wanted our Body System #2 back. My husband and I are sleeping better than we ever have. I am happy to report the back pain in COMPLETELY gone, and we like this model better than the original we purchased 2 years ago!
Kingsdown Kings Court in Queen by mc74j ,Sep 30 '07
Pros: Its a KingsDown, the quality for the money Cons: Its kinda thick 16 inches, high up. they do make a low profile box though
I just bought this to update my Kingsdown Juliet (my daughter is getting that one.) I love my old one and Hope to love this new one its only been a month. So far WoW its great. Mattress Giant had a Sale going on so I paid $1150 for a Queen it listed or about $2200. And i got them to through in the delivery. I have been happy with mattress giant ever since they have been in MN and Love my bed I would say you can't go wrong with this bed. I did shop around for a month trying several beds that cost anywhere from $800 to $2000. I guess I feel KingsDown is a Name brand to be proud of. Made in the U.S.A. and Well respected the Sales Rep at Hom furniture had lots of respect for them and they don't sell these there. the full function box spring is a thing of the past to most manufactors do to cost. Not Kings down. I like that.
SLEEPING TO LIVE AND LOVING IT by phil_phish ,May 12 '09
Pros: Good consistent quality Nice separation motion Each partner gets what they need.
real warranty noprorate Cons: none
I feel sorry for those who are buying discontinued sale beds from online stores. People have to understand the reason these beds are pulled from retailers is because of defects in a line. Just like a car recall. THe new SLeep to live bed my wife and I have is 10 times better than the kingsdown that we replaced. We had a warranty issue and the manager at our local SLeepy's in Maryland was very professional, their customer service upgraded us to these beds, which have individual coils and individual sleep spaces. it is like my wife and i are in two different beds with no separation in the top. We spent $1800 then and got a $2300 bed today. Love it! I got more than the full value of the money spent. THank you Sleepy's. Is Kingsdown under new ownership? Because this is great! I called customer service to get information for my cousin in Virginia and we both got through in a matter of rings to a live person.
Kingsdown Dormo #2 best decision by adam22 ,Aug 05 '05
Pros: Well constructed, conforming to the body... Cons: I can't think of any...
I have slept on a Sealy for the last 3 years and I am sure Sealy makes some okay beds but I could not sleep in this bed. I went into a Sleepys and tried a lot of different beds in the showroom. Sleepys had a wide selection but I decided upon the Kingsdown Body System. This bed is amazing I actually get excited about going to bed at night. The salespeople will tell you the bed is one of the few who still use an actual box sping and that the bed will conform to you it really works! I also liked the fact of Kingsdown being a smaller employee owned company which is something the Sleepys guy told me during the sale. I would recommend this bed.
Something stinks and I can't sleep! by cmoch ,Jun 24 '05
Pros: If the mattress did not smell horrible it would be good! Cons: This mattress STINKS
My sister has this pillow top Kingsdown and I loved it. When the time came for me to replace my mattress, I went to Sleepy's, a large chain in NYC, and bought one. When it arrived, I looked forward to my first night's sleep in it, but alas, there was a horrible rank odor!
I called Sleepy's and , after they sent an inspector, they finally replaced the mattress with another (telling me that it must have been improperly stored in the warehouse) and lo and behold, same stink!!! Meanwhile I was sleeping on the couch, very miserable, and calling Sleepys AND calling Kingsdown.
Kingsdown had no interest in my plight. Sleepy's has yet to replace the second mattress. I suggested an upgrade since I have had three months of sleeping on the couch. They informed me that they do not do that.
I paid a great deal of money for this mattress and all i have gotten is aggravation, both from Kingsdown and Sleepy's.
i have had a kingsdown for a year now by eric4711 ,Aug 07 '05
Pros: great bed reasonable price extremely comftrable Cons: took about two weeks to get used to.
I love my kingsdown bed it was not the most expensive model, but have had no problems with it. I find i get much better rest on this mattress than my previous one. I bought it because it was softer due to the fact that my hands would go numb on my previous bed. This mattress has virtually eliminated that and I get very good rest. even though i do not maintain it by flipping it the mattress has held up well so far.
Dormo Diagnostics Saved My life! by den2nov ,Aug 08 '05
Pros: I highly recommend Kingsdown bedding for people who are sick of waking up sore! Cons: Mattress is thick, make sure your bed linens are deep pocket, or one size bigger.
I have spent years on an expensive, but very firm mattress and consistently woke up achy and didn't feel rested during the day. After discussing these issues with several people, I diagnosed my mattress as the potential problem. I went to Art Van in Grand Rapids and was assured that Kingsdown was the best bed around-and designed to solve those exact problems. I was profiled, as was my husband, and we purchased a #2. This bed, after a year-has consistently given us good sleep and happy mornings. They did explain that the mattress would fit to our bodies, kind of like shoes would to your feet. The associate at Art Van really helped us understand the premise for the cushier, yet very supportive bedding, and it has worked perfectly for us!
I love my bed. It is so comfortable. It is so great I find it hard to get out of it in the morning. I have to say also that the service at Kingsdown is wonderful. I called customer service twice and spoke with a Jim and then a Jessica. Before buying my bed I had so many questions. I read online of peoples complaints so I called the company to voice the concerns and see what they could say about the different complaints. They answered all my questions and calmed any concerns I had. I really liked Jessica's advice. She told me to spend alot of time in the store lying on each bed. She told me that if I lay in my sleeping position that I can get a better feel for what my night of sleep would be like.
My bed delivered a week ago. I love it!!!! I have to say it is the best sleep I have ever had! The bed is great, and the customer service I received deserves kuddos!
Pros: Diagnostic bed test showed us we needed a soft bed Cons: hot humid makes you sweat causes heat rash uncomfortable doesn't keep shape a lemon
We purchased Kings down Ultimate Pillow top bed most expensive one in store $4590.00 and find it extremely hot and uncomfortable we have had it swapped for the display model on the floor and its still the worst bed we have ever slept in went from sleeping all night to waking every hour back aches and even with air con on all night to 18d what ever part of the body is in contact with the bed sweats have severe heat rash after 2 months we are now sleeping on a bed purchased in 1984 which is much more comfortable and have delegated the kings down to the spare room even had visitors complain about the heat generated by the mattress We were railroaded into this bed by the saleslady and even with a set of cotton sheets and cotton topper pad this bed is hot would be alright for Alaska but no good in Australia was told by saleslady it was top of the range and had technology used by astronauts but seeing space is weightless ?
Pros: NONE!!!! Cons: Substandard construction. Product was misrepresented. Overpriced
Buyer Beware! What a disappointment. Mattress was great for first six then it started to sag where we slept. It is like each of us is sleeping in our own hammock. It took the retailer (Mattress Giant) several months to respond. All the standard excuses, "complaint got lost, computer went down, etc.". Finally got a complaint form to fill out. What a joke!. It was at least eight pages long. Had to include photos. "Indentations" had to be at least 2 inches deep and this is a pillowtop. Just imagine. Well we got rejected because ours was just shy of the requirement. We called Kingsdown and they sent a "Nuetral" third party to examine the problem. Although he said he was not the decision maker that they would reject it, and they did. His recommendation was to sleep in the middle so the whole thing would sag. Why did we spend thousands of dollars to sleep on hilltop and roll into the valley? I have a hunch the positive reviews will change after they use the product for a few months. To many of the same bad reviews for this to be an isolated problem.
luv it want to tell everyone by mommyof2-1 ,May 24 '06
Pros: Still feels like the day we got it!PERFECTION!! Cons: There are NO cons!
The mattress is everything they promised. I have had my #3 body surround mattress for 2 years and have never slept better. I feel healthier, more energized and ready to face the day.NO more tossing and turning! Kingsdown and my sales rep. made sure that my # 3 was exactly what my husband and I needed, by doing a Dormo Diagnostic Body Profile on us. We layed on this computerized air bed and it took a pressure map of our bodies and blended them to make our perfect mattress. Laying on it in the store ,I was sold. And with a lifetime warranty, how could we go wrong!
Kingsdown/DormoDiagnostics YES/YES/YES!!!!!!!!!! by wanda-britt827 ,Aug 07 '05
Pros: No flip only have to rotate it head to foot,Comfortable and very supportive. Cons: I cant think of one.
This is the best night sleep I have ever had!! In just a few nights my aches andpains were gone and I felt more alert and energized throughout the day. It feels like the bed conforms to my body supporting areas I never knew needed to be supported. It filled in behind my neck, lower back, and behind my knees. My old mattress felt like I was conforming to it. It never gave me support like my KINGSDOWN BODY SYSTEM 3 has. I just absolutely love it and will never own anything else!!
Pros: Suprisingly durable so far. I don't wake up 5 times a night anymore. Cons: Was a little more than i was going to spend.
I don't usually feel compelled to review the products I use, but this thing is like a miracle bed! I'm a pretty big guy and have (or had) many sleep problems. The worst of which was the bad circulation in my legs. Not to mention waking up constantly(and waking up my wife). While I'm not sure if a perfect nights sleep exists, I know we sleep WAY better now with this bed. About a year and a half into owning this bed now and it's held up well. Minor dips where we sleep but nothing that makes it less comfortable. My only real complaint is the price tag attached to it. Oh, and the guy at Sleepys was a little corny, but nice enough. Anyway, we highly recommend this bed.
THANK YOU KINGSDOWN DORMO DIAGNOSTICS by bodieslamu2000 ,Aug 03 '05
Pros: Aligned back. Sleep like a baby. Allergy free. Great bed Cons: Though a tad thick for my old sheets, new ones fit fine.
10 Years ago I was in a motorcycle accident. No bed was right for me. I broke 9 assorted bones and herniated 3 disks. NO bed was right for me. Until late last year I've been sleeping on a Dormo Diagnostic. Sure, I bought it from Sleepy's. Sure, I thought the salesman was full of it, but one year later I've never slept better. It was one of the first one sided ones so my aching back didn't have to flip it.
Wow what a difference a bed makes! I HIGHLY recommend you go out and get one. I'm insulted that anyone would come on here and have something bad to say about my bed. Maybe you just got the wrong one? You make me feel like I made a bad choice. I'm sure glad I didn't listen to you guys.
I bought a Dormo Diagnostics Body bed... by karizan ,Aug 03 '05
Pros: Most amazing bed I ever bought. Pretty, clean and extremely comfortable. Fits like a glove. Cons: Would have liked a smaller box spring.
..and it has provided the most amazing sleep I've ever had! I won't speak for anyone else here, but I LOVE this bed. Sometimes I can't wait to go to bed just to be in it again!
The salesmen over there and that computer couldn't have been more correct. It's been three years and it's still the perfect bed for me!
I'm about to go buy one for my guest room. Sure, they're expensive, but everyone deserves a good night sleep, no? I mean, we spend so much time in bed, it has to be worth it.
I came here because my friend wanted to get the same bed that makes me so happy...but he informed me of these horrible reviews. Since people are so quick to speak out when they have an issue, why not have someone say something GOOD for a change?
The bed is amazing. I believe it actually helped my sciatica! What a great sleep. I used to suffer from insomnia, but no longer!
Buy one. Today! Do it for yourself. You deserve it.
Came across epinions.com the other day and looked for products that I'm familiar with to see what other's think. I agree with those who are sleeping great on a Kingsdown bed. Years ago, we started with a pair of twins for our daughter's. Now everyone in the family sleeps on a Kingsdown. Our Kingsdown bed is fantastic! It has given new meaning to a great night's sleep. Thank you Kingsdown.
KINGSDOWN KILLED MY MOTHER by buttsniffer999 ,May 17 '07
Pros: RELATIVELY PAINLESS DEATH. HEAVILY DISCOUNTED MATTRESS!! Cons: SAD MOTHERS DAY
MY ELDERLY MOTHER SLEPT ON A KINGSDOWN FOR 1 WEEK BEFORE IT STARTED SAGGING SO BADLY IN THE MIDDLE THAT ONE DAY SHE COULD NOT GET OUT OF BED!!! WHEN ME AND MY BROTHERS COULD NOT CONTACT HER BY PHONE WE WENT TO HER HOME TO FIND HER BADLY DECOMPOSED BODY STUCK IN THE CENTER OF THE HUGE SAGGING CRATER THE KINGSDOWN DORMO DIAGNOSTIC HAD BECOME!!!! THE SLEEPYS SALESMAN SAID SHE WAS JUST OLD AND IT WAS NOT THEIR FAULT!!! GOD FORGIVE SLEEPY'S AND KINGSDOWN FOR KILLING MY MOM!!
The best bed in the world!!! by ducati748cl ,Jul 03 '08
Pros: Great support, Great comfort. Cons: None
I purchased a kingsdown eloquence from mattress giant and it is the best bed my body has ever felt. I tried many beds but none came close to the support and feel of the kingsdown.
Avoid Kingsdowne Pillowtop like the plague by wralphs ,Jan 09 '08
Pros: nice name Cons: horrible sagging even with good support.constant flipping is a major inconvenience
Bought the top of the line Kingsize, great for six months or so then began to sag in the middle so bad that it is almost impossible to sleep on. My wife hates it. Only comfortable place to sleep is near the edges. Warranty is next to impossible to work with, trying again to work something out with them but I will be surprised if anything gets done.
Worst Ever Kingsdown Pillow Top Bed by allprostang ,Jun 25 '08
Pros: no pros Cons: no cons
My husband and I saved money for this bed. We tried it out and researched it and Mattress Giant recommended it. So we bought it and because it was Calif. King we paid extra . So after less then 14 months the bed began to sink and now it looks like a mac truck came through it and left 2 pot holes. i called kingsdown, they came and look at the bed oh did i say it has a 25 year warranty. but the company found a loop hole and said it not sagging enough and they cant help us. So now my husband and I have to sleep on a bed that almost goes down to the box spring. This company is a joke and dont care about customers as long as they get your money. Not only that, i had call numerous times for something to get done and they they say that cant help me.
THE BEST I HAVE EVER SLEPT ON by kitten2 ,Feb 24 '08
Pros: Perfect fit for both of us, plush, yet very supported. Cons: nothing
I have made a lot of expensive mistakes in the past year trying to find the best mattress for both my husband and I. Try after try between Sealy, Simmons, Serta, and Tempurpedic, we have finally found the best mattress for the both of us. It is a Kingsdown Body System. There is this wonderful store named Sleep City,(located in Northern California) that has a profiling system. The machine profiled my husband, then I, and it came up with the best choice for both of us, and I have to say it really is the best bed for us both. We love it. Yah!
Kingsdown does not warrant comfort? by debrasloan ,Nov 20 '09
Pros: None Cons: Cost and Lack of Comfort
I have just had a Service Inspector out to inspect my Kingsdown mattress after countless mornings of waking up with low backache pain and paying $5000. Kingsdown has determined that the structural elements of my mattress meet their criteria and that they DO NOT WARRANT COMFORT while advertising “health and well-being.” Think arefully before plopping down a small fortune to buy a mattress from Kingsdown. This is not what I would expect to hear from a company with "Over 100 Years of Sleep Innovation."
Kingsdown Platinum a terrible bed!!! by nweeks ,Sep 16 '08
Pros: Comfortable for the first week Cons: Started to sag immediately.Poor customer service from Sleep America. No customer service from Kingsdown
2 yrs. ago my husband & I purchased a Kingsdown Platinum model king bed at Sleep America. Within the first month we noticed excessive sagging and body impressions on each side. Also there was a large bump in the middle so it felt like we were sleeping in canyons. The store told us the bed was "learning our bodies". Well, the bed should get a PhD in our bodies because it has continued to sag. Sleep America has no representitive to inspect the bed to see if it qualifies for a return. Instead Kingsdown sent us a ridiculous kit with a string, disposable camera and a ruler, and in depth instructions of how to photograph the sag. It must show a 2 inch sag to be considered excessive. Also we are supposed to photograph the underside of the bed and frame! We've done this but have heard nothing. We would never recommend Kingdown or Sleep America bed stores.
**READ FIRST** DORMO DIAGNOSTIC/KINGSDOWN/SLEEPYS: NO, NO, NO, and WARNING! AN EXPENSIVE MISTAKE by tmckinne ,Sep 29 '08
Pros: None.
Cons: This is the worst experience that I have ever had. DO NOT BUY FROM SLEEPYS/KINGSDOWN.
I bought the Kingsdown Dormo Bodydiagnostics from Sleepys a little over a year ago. The mattress started to sag in the middle a little over six months after I bought the mattress system. Simply stated, this is the WORST MATTRESS SYSTEM!!, I have ever bought. A pure waste of $3100.00 dollars. Sleepys and Kingdown will not honor the "Warranty" for the bed. I had the bed inspected by Sleepys and they simply ignored the gaping hole in the middle and would not honor the warranty. This is the worst experience that I have ever had. DO NOT BUY FROM SLEEPYS/KINGSDOWN.
We love our low-end Kingsdown by likeababy ,Oct 25 '05
Pros: incredibly comfortable, supportive Cons: heavy
In 2003, after months of shopping and reading reviews on this site, my husband and I purchased a low-end line Kingsdown king mattress. I was 7 months pregnant at the time. It has been wonderful to sleep on since the first night. We are of normal height/weight and do see slight indentions which feel too deep over time - at which point we flip the mattress - and then all is fine for another 3-4 months. We bought the Princess line - cost us about $1600 from Boyle's Furniture in Hickory, NC. We did go to Boyle's and try the DormoDiagnostic bed - learned our recommended firmness (2, I think) - then bought the comparable firmness in the Princess (i.e. cheaper) line. We've never had a problem with sheets fitting and ours is not a pillowtop. It is, however, very soft and supportive.
My parents have had their low-end Kingsdown mattress (I don't recall the line) for over 10 years now and still love it - have never had a problem.
Pros: Computer picks the proper bed based on your body type Cons: A little heavy, Ivory white cover may get dirty?
Get your profile and get a wonderful nights sleep. We purchased a new Bedroom and the salesman suggested we get our profile taken so that we could see what the proper sleep system felt like. We never imagined that our old, hard bed at home was totally the wrong thing for our body. We profiled a number two and didn't want to get off the bed in the store. We couldn't wait for our new bed to arrive and have been sleeping like babies ever since. We never knew sleep could be this good!

Pros: Looks nice Cons: You will sink 6 inches in less than an hour, 20 year Warranty useless.
We purchased this top of the line mattress from KINGSDOWN with the memory foam, and after 30 days we decided we couldn't sleep anymore. It sags after an hour, is hot, and after a while you are down like 5 inches. If you and your partner sleep back to back, you will sink even further like 7 inches. We complained to the factory, sent us a kit for testing, and they came back saying is normal and they will not cover the warranty, since 2 inch sagging is considered normal without weight, now imagine this with weight. They told me the have been making mattress for 100 years, and they know what they are doing. This warranty this just a joke, They only cover structural damage beyond an arbitrary set point of 2 inches. Stay away please. Anybody wants to contact me to show the pictures and proof of letters and warranty can contact me miguelaod@aol.com. Please stay away from KINGSDOWN MATTRESS. Once you buy it and turns defective you have to give it to your dog to sleep in. They said there is noting they can do. They do not warrant comfort.
