SPORTApro, hearing is believing!

by chiminou , Dec 30 '04
Pros: Sportswear, comfortable, massive-bass, foldable, portable. They are KOSS
Cons: Bass can get boomy, sound leakage
Note : This is a review about the SPORTApro headphones. I will compare those to the Portapros. Both names are very similar, just to make sure no one gets confused the ones IN questions here are the SPORTApro, the new model from KOSS (2000). The ...

Koss Porta Pro - Portable High Qualtiy Headphones

by shopaholic_man Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 100, Jan 02 '09
Pros: Koss really delivers an excellent sound with great dynamic range and excellent bass response.
Cons: Classical music is lacking a little something over headphones.
We need headphones. It's hard to bring a quality pair of speakers, an amplifer and CD player with you to the gym or out for a walk or on the subway.  Thus came along the Sony Walkman which has evolved into the Apple iPod.  It seems that ...

The Perfect Companion

by AVaddict Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 200, Oct 02 '02
Pros: Light, comfortable for hours, cool, folds down, reliable Koss sound quality
Cons: I really like these, always have, but two feet more cord would be nice
A Little Background

I bought my first pair of Koss Porta Pros in 1986 and absolutely loved them. I thought, at the time, that they were quite definitely the best headphones I had ever heard. If I remember correctly I paid about...

Fold and go with Koss PortaPro Headphones

Pros: Very good sound, foldable, stylish, good warranty
Cons: Expensive (SRP $49.99), no volume control on the cord
Why I was looking for headphones

Pros: Great sound, extremely portable
Cons: they look funny on my head
I need to start with a small preface, I love sound, I’m obsessed with it, and I listen to sound all day and all night on all different speakers and TV’s and car systems. Due to my audiophile nature it is very possible there are things that would ...

A BoomBox on your ears.

Pros: Inexpensive price, punchy bass, Portability, Great with low powered devices
Cons: May find bass exaggerated, Catches hair easily, Dorky styling

Amazingly Superior Headphones

by FargoUT , Aug 26 '02
Pros: Lightweight, comfortable, long cord, foldable, lifetime warranty, and most important, amazing sound!
Cons: Moderately expensive for portable headphones
I purchased these on the advice of HeadRoom (www.headphone.com), who recommended these as a superior alternative to standard headphones. And for about two years, these things lasted through my time at the gym, work, and traveling to and from. The Koss...

One of the best portable headphones on the market

by eCritic , Mar 24 '06
Pros: Good bass, comfortable, compact folding design
Cons: None as yet
I've been looking for headphones like this for a long time. As an admitted bass-aholic, I've been routinely let down by other headphones. Over the years, I've bought and used so many of the highly recommended headphones. AKG K-240, various Sennheisers, ...

A Great Compromise

by wforrest , Jun 12 '02
Pros: Pretty solid construction and materials, good sound, lifetime guarantee.
Cons: behind-the-head is awkward for me
I got these for my minidisc player. I wanted something light and not too huge, that would not take a lot of power (which can make headphones deliver low sound levels), and I don't like things that are low-quality construction. I knew I wasn't going to...

by fizbeam , Sep 02 '02
Pros: Great sound, reasonable price, folds up, lifetime warranty.
Cons: A little on the pricey side. May not have enough bass response for you.

Pros: Comfort. Sound. Comfort. Sound. Did I mention, comfort and sound?
Cons: People will give a double take. Weak cord connection to earpieces. Not good on plane.

Cons: Somewhat too high impedance? Really none.

One word - AWESOME!
by manboobs ,Apr 02 '07
Pros: Excellent sound. Great Portability. Well fitting. Outside-the-box design.
Cons: Retract quite tightly. Mind your fingers.
I've been a music aficionado (and casual musician) most of my life. Believe me, I'm anal retentive about my sound quality. These cans are a freak of science. I've listened to headphones 3 times the price, and still go back to the mighty Porta Pros.

They have a full, sweet sound that belies there size and price point. Seriously, the more you listen to these babies the more you will appreciate them. I've had mine for about 3 years and they haven't missed a beat. Still in excellent condition, and to think they have a lifetime warranty. A true testament of their quality IMO.

And the looks. Hey, who wants to look like everybody else. They are snug, quite comfortable, and quite retro-funky. So you might loose a strand of hair occasionally, but it's well worth it. You must own a pair of these amazing little headphones to really understand how lovable they are. Simply AWESOME.

Great for the price!
by excaliburn ,Feb 22 '07
Pros: Very good sound, very comfortable, require little power, good bass.
Cons: The band keeps wanting to slide closed unless held open.
These extremely comfortable headphones really do a nice job with portable players, though they do have their limitations. Fortunately, most of the headphones that sound substantially better also cost substantially more.

The only thing about these that really irritates me is that the headband slides closed (smaller) under any sort of movement. I guess that's better than sliding open, but it's aggravating to slide them to a position, take a moment to disentangle the cord, and then find that the band has closed back to its smallest size. You need to get everything exactly right with your cords, amp, player, and so forth and THEN open them up and put them on your head.

I'm not generally a big fan of open-air headphones, since I usually use headphones when I'm mowing the lawn, traveling on a plane, or in other situations where I want to seal out ambient noise. And, since I own a couple pair of Grados, I don't use these in the house much, but where I can use them (on the beach, walking, kayaking) they do a great job and are by far my favorite headphones for the application.

Great sound
by merivale ,Nov 13 '06
Pros: Great sound, good KOSS customer service
Cons: Headband breaks very easy, short cord
I love the sound of the headphones - top quality no question about it. I have the set now for 2 years.

The few things I did not like about them is that the headband broke very fast and it is not as comfortable as I hoped they would be, the cord is very short as well

However my friend just told me that he has some problems with his set and after calling Koss they replaced the set -no questions asked. He only had to pay for shipping. That is what I will do as the sound of these things is unbeatable!

Shocked by the sound of 35$ headphones
by erniejade ,Nov 30 '04
Pros: Great bass, clean highs, light weight and stores nicely in my coat pocket.
Cons: If I had hair, I am balding on top, the band would catch hair.
I went looking for a small headphone for my MP3 player. I tried on darn near everything from the earbuds Sennheiser
on down. I guess my ears are small because all of the earbud type hurt my ears! ( not playing just sitting in there or trying to get them in my ear). I have to say the Koss Portapro's are some of the best sounding under 100$ headphones I have heard. They look cheep but, trust me, they are not cheep sounding! 101 DB sensitivity is not too bad and higher then my AKG's i was using. lots of bass, clean highs. Perfect for MP3's.

I have the same Portapro Headphones that I was given with the purchase of a new stereo back in 1984 when the Portapro first came out. I love these things. They are 22+ years old and still kicking butt! They make every player sound better. They even make my Laptop sound great while watching DVDs or listening to Cd's. I would recommend these to anyone. I am an extremely satisfied customer/user of the Koss Portapro. Just think, I've not had to purchase headphones in over 22 years! How many people can say that? Decent Offering From Koss
by audio-freak ,Feb 23 '07
Pros: Very Well-Round, Comfortable, Inexpensive, Good And Loud Sound
Cons: Sound Is Slightly Warm And Lacks Frequency Extremes
Koss is a very well-known company in inexpensive headphones. Every once in awhile they'll dish out something bad like the awful UR29, but most of their headphones are good value, like the Sporta Pro. The sound quality isn't the best you'll find for this price, but it is very decent, especially the mids are audiophile quality. The bass is good, but a bit overwhelming at higher volumes, making them sound slightly warm. They also have a clear sound, although they don't bring out a lot of detail some pricer sets can. They can also bring out the volume, making them good for portable players. Seemed comfortable to me, and also have a neat design. I'd spend the extra $20 to get the "great" Porta Pros, the Sporta Pros are a "good" offering at only $30.

The Necessary Sound Upgrader For Your Portable
by audio-freak ,Feb 23 '07
Pros: Very Good Sound Quality, Good Fit, Great Value
Cons: Slightly Bass Heavy/Warm
The Koss Porta Pro is almost the trademark portable headphone from the company. And I can hear why, these have good sound quality and are very well-rounded. They do sound slightly bass heavy, much like its little cousin Sporta Pros, but have much more solid mids and flat, more detailed treble than the Sportas. Also, their bass heaviness and loudness makes them a good accessory with the iPod. They are also very cool and retro looking, and are a comfortable listening pleasure. Not to mention the $50, while expensive for the average portable player user, they are a value among most headphones at this pricepoint. Overall, the ideal headphones for your portable player.

Nothing Beats It!
by nesscal ,Jan 05 '06
Pros: Sound quality, durability, comfort. Can even make those bad sounding MP3's better. Cheap!
Cons: There really isn't any, just weird looking. I like them exactly the way they are.
I got these only by chance 7-8 years ago when the Personal Jukebox first came out, the big clunky MP3 player. Luckily these headphones came with it. There has not been one set of headphones that can even come close to the sound of these. And I've tried them all.
My husband keeps trying to bring home all these different headphones to prove me wrong...hasn't happened. Came home with some Sony's and it wasn't even funny. They are funny looking, but I'm not in it for style. It's the sound! The Best!

Can you fall in love with your headphones?
by bravesboy786 ,Mar 19 '05
Pros: Sound: BASS, portability, durability
Cons: Has a little hook above the speaker, which mildly irritates the ear.
Unless you have a really expensive home sound system, really expensive car speakers, or really expensive headphones, you haven't heard music like this yet. The bass is extremely deep. I hate all the other cheap headphones that give a very harsh and heavy sound, this one RUMBLES. It makes bad music sound good and I love watching movies on my laptop with these. They are also very portable. Sometimes I'll fall asleep with these hooked to my mp3 player and I'll end up rolling right over them. They fold up into a flat shape to avoid damage and I'm a 260 lb man.

Koss portapro headphones
by rhk0327 ,Jan 09 '06
Pros: read
Cons: read

I don’t have much experience in headphones but they sound good to me. I have used them a lot and I have 3 minor complaints. 1) They coil tightly together (for carrying around) but sometime it snaps open. This is relatively easy to deal with since they come with a case. 2) Sometimes the head phones pull out my hairs, this can be a little annoying. 3) My biggest complaint is the ear part covering (it touches your ear) has worn off. Now I have to listen with my ears directly against the plastic. They are probably replaceable though.

The fact that I wore through the ear material is a testament to how much I like using these headphones.

Won't let go of these
by rahina ,Jan 16 '04
Pros: Excellent sound, good design, lifetime warranty, all parts replaceable, the sound!
Cons: short cord, bit too much bass (specially on all-ready high bass songs)
I've used these for almost an year and I can't really complain about anything specific. Or maybe that is hard to change these to smaller phones with slender sound range when you go to sleep... They have served me well with my iPod and computer and I haven't found any other that would also look good.

Pros: Great sound. Lightweight and stores easily.
Cons: none
Awesome sound and nothing sticking in my ears to clear out my wax :). And for only 29 bucks you cant go wrong. I damaged the wire to the ear piece and KOSS sent me a new pair. They have a lifetime warranty.
