Pros: Very easy Cons: None
The Krups La Glaciere is an amazing little machine. It is very easy to use as it has three parts, the freezing unit, the paddle and the top which has the motor as well. You keep the main freezing unit in the freezer so that is is available at any time....

Pros: It makes a delicious product; you can add the ingredients of your choice to make. Cons: Not for the lazy cook for you must do the stove prep for ice cream.
When I was a child, my parents would make homemade ice cream about once a year for special occasions. I decided it was time to give it a try and to give my children the same fond memories. Since my husband and I are amateur gourmet cooks, I boldly ...

Pros: You can have ice cream in an hour. Cons: Grainy ice cream. The bowl can warp, rendering it useless.
I have a "La Glaciere" ice cream maker. For years I kept the bowl in the freezer. I would make ice cream whenever the urge would strike, once every two to four months. The ice cream would come out the consistency of soft serve ice cream and would firm up ...

Pros: Fun and delicious. Makes lovely ice cream. Cons: Not any
After growing up making ice cream using the crank and rock salt/ice method....this is a dream!
The ice cream is smooth and delicious and takes only 20 -25 effortless minutes to create. The ice cream is a soft product at this point and I place it in...

Pros: You control what goes in. No chemicals and can be low carb. Cons: Have to freeze the container for a full 24 hours to get good results.
One thing that Dr. Atkins highly recommends for his low carb diet is to enjoy ice cream for dessert. Not "store-brought" ice cream, but one of his sugar free recipes. To make ice cream successfully, you need an ice cream maker, and I purchased the Krups...

If you love ice cream, you NEED this ice cream maker!!! Ever since I was a kid, I've loved ice cream. It's my biggest vice, and with every diet I've ever tried, it's been my biggest downfall! So it only made sense to buy my own ice cream maker, and I...

Pros: Very easy to use Cons: It's hard not to eat it all
The only small appliance I like better than this one is my toaster. I love this gadget. I got it for Christmas 2 years ago and haven't bought ice cream since. You can turn on this machine at the beginning of dinner and have homemade ice cream for...

Great in Concept, Not So Great in Use
by delgaudm ,Sep 25 '03
Pros: Makes tasty ice cream when it works. Cons: Flimsy paddle broke right away. Hard to assemble.
Once I was able to get all of the parts to fit properly and the lid to lock in place, this machine made great ice cream. However, getting the equipment to work correctly was an exercise in futility.
First of all, the instructions don't explain that you MUST have the blade in place before adding the ice cream mixture, else it will freeze right to the bowl, making it impossible for the blade to fit or turn. Once you make it past this hurdle, you move on to the challenge of putting the lid in place (there was a great deal of swearing in my kitchen the day of this machine's first use). On about my fourth use of the Krups machine, the blade cracked, which makes the process even more laborious. When I attempted to use the machine about a month ago, I found that I couldn't fit the lid in place at ALL, rendering the machine completely useless.
I would have a hard time recommending this product to anyone. I'm going to give the Cuisinart model a try next time.

I'd Rather Buy a Pint of Hagan Daz
by maude234 ,Nov 06 '05
Pros: The anticipation the first time I tried it. Cons: Uneven freezing.
I can't understand why there are so many glowing reviews of this machine. The paddle does not sit flush with the sides of the bowl, so a thick layer of rock-hard ice cream forms along the sides. When the ice cream is done and you turn the machine off and take out the paddle, that layer of rock-hard ice cream only gets thicker as you attempt to scoop the ice cream out of the bowl. Within a few minutes, you will find yourself chipping away at this mass with a wooden spoon, as the rest of the batch begins to melt. The end result is a pint and a half of a mixture of melting ice cream and lumps of the rock-hard stuff, a bunch of the stuff still stuck to the bowl, and a huge mess.

Super easy ice cream
by bldeppen ,Jul 13 '05
Pros: Always in my chest freezer ready to go. Simple to use. Cons: Not big enough for my family of four!
I got this machine for Christmas and I love it. And once I found the ice cream mixes at Wal Mart, I loved it even more. Instead of having to plan ahead, you just mix up the packet with milk or cream, pour it in and voila, ice cream. The packets make a great base and I add my own extra ingredients, i.e. fresh strawberries with the strawberry packet, small chocolate peanut butter cups with the chocolate packet, whatever you want to try! If you want a lighter ice cream, use two percent milk. If you want the really decadent stuff, use cream or half and half to be only a little bit bad!

It self destructs
by pryan3507 ,Aug 01 '07
Pros: Compact size. Cons: It self-destructs.
I liked it before it died. I made perhaps six batches of ice cream over a few years. I stored the unit safely on an upper shelf where nothing else disturbed it. And then, spontaneously, the tub's inner metal liner became corroded in one tiny spot, and the gel substance that is supposed to freeze leaked out, rendering the entire contraption useless. A replacement bowl, when I checked, was about $63. I didn't pay much more than that for the original unit. I feel bad because I also recommended that a friend buy his mother one of these for a birthday gift. I can only hope she has better luck, but I've seen many reports on the Web of the same problem. I was surprised when I e-mailed Krups that no none offered to replace the defective tub for free, given that someone clearly didn't think this design through.

Junk
by mn26 ,May 03 '04
Pros: Good ice cream Cons: Broke after 2 use
I've used it twice, and just noticed the bowl part is leaking out fluid. The seal between the inner metallic part and the outer plastic bowl must have broken. While searching for a Krups customer service e-mail/ phone #, I came across 2 reviews for this ice cream maker that mentioned the same problem. Still no luck finding customer service. I think I'm just going to throw this one away and buy another brand.
It made good ice cream and sorbet during the 2 times I used it, though. The bowl is small enough to fit in my freezer.
