Pros: Linksys track record of quality. Form factor. Connection options. Cons: None that I know of.
Hello, to everyone. Let me tell you about my research and experience with the Linksys wired BEFCMU10 version 4 cable modem. Linksys has been making this cable modem for several years. Version four is the latest iteration. As far as I can tell, ...
Pros: Nice looking; separate power supply; multiple mounting options. Cons: S - L - O - W
I made the switch from dial-up to cable modem four months ago. Now, I can't imagine life without broadband. I started out renting a modem supplied by my cable company, Advanced Cable, with the idea that if I decided to keep the service I would buy my...
Pros: Stackable with other Linksys products, making easier storage, nice looking design, fast, reliable Cons: none
My Motorola Surfboard modem died the other day after less than 2 years of service, so it was time to go out and buy another one, because I refuse to rent a modem from an ISP when in about 7-8 months you have paid for one (my ISP charges 5 bucks a month ...
Pros: Fast and reliable. Ready for future DOCSYS upgrades Cons: No on/off or standby switch
I bought this modem to replace my 6 year old Toshiba PCX1100U cable modem. It started to drop connections more and more frequently, probably due to it being a DOCSIS 1.1 device, while the network was already on DOCSIS 2.0. This model is the Linksys ...
Pros: High quality. Appearance. DOCSIS 2.0 support. Cons: Price. USB 1.1.
Disclaimer: I work for a cable company, so I have access to back-end information not normally available to most end users. I picked up the Linksys BEFCMU10 cable modem "surplus" from my employer, mostly because I have other Linksys gear (a WRT54G and ...
Pros: Reliable, still working after 3years Cons: Regularly drops the interconnect connection (1-3/mth)
I purchased my Linksys modem almost three years ago, and I have used it for close to two years. I first purchased the modem when I switched from dial up to cable, using Comcast as my provider. After about 18 months I switched to RCN and a Toshiba PCX ...
Pros: Fast, Resets Quickly, Responsive, High Compadibility Cons: Unstable, Puts out static on channel 3 when in use
I had purchased the modem after recently moving to another house. This was the second time I have had cable internet, both times it was from the same company, Comcast (previously Excite, previously At&t, previously @home). The cable modem is hooked ...
I would reccomend this modem to anyone thinking about getting a broadband connect. I've had mine for about a month now and not experianced one problem. It's the best product I've bought within the past year. It's great because it's alwasy on and always...

I got the liksys cable modem with the usb connection because i have a usb port and no ethernet connection, but then i found out the hard way that i cant connect my other computers unless i get the network card, and return the modem and get the ethernet...
Pros: Good Price. Good Tech Support Cons: None Yet
I purchased this modem for our cable internet service. The idea was that the cable company charges $15 a month to rent a cable modem. This unit cost $99, meaning it should pay for itself in seven months. It was on the list of our cable company's...
Pros: Works as well as I would expect, looks nice Cons: Overheats
This is not a full review, as I don't know nearly enough about cable modems to review it completely. I would just like to point out that it has a major problem with overheating. On its own, in an open space, it has always worked fine, but when I put my Linksys wireless router on top of it, it quickly overheats in a normal temperature room. The air holes on top were not compromised, but there just simply isn't adequate cooling. And yes, the units are made to be stacked on one another. When it overheats, the unit simply stops working. A couple of the LED's turn to steady on, and the unit is hot to the touch. This was easily remedied by leaving plenty of open space around the unit.
Other than this everything works fine. The speed is as good as my ISP (Comcast) will allow, and it has never had any other problems.
Pros: Ultra Fast. Cured connection problems. Cons: None so far.
Yesterday I installed this Linksys EtherFast BEFCMU10 Cable Modem, because the Toshiba PCX1100U was having connection problems. No longer do I have to reboot my modem 2 to 4 times per day. The installation was very easy. Shortly after I set up this modem, I went to CNet.com to check out the internet connection speed. I took five different readings with an average of 3600Kbps. WOW! With the older Toshiba, I was only able to achieve 2100 to 2350 KBps late at night. Tonight I tested the connection speed again, and I reached an average of 3700Kbps with the Linksys cable modem in the early evening when the cable network should be the busiest. I am truely amazed with the connection speed and reliability of this modem compared to my older Toshiba modem. How many of you are getting those kind of speed readings?
Pros: Good price, Good performance, Simply setup. Cons: None yet.
I'm on a cable hookup and was using the cable provided modem, a motorola surfboard. The speeds were erratic and there was a monthly rent charge that the cable company hides in your bill. Hence I decided to purchase this modem to go along with my Linksys wireless router. I now average consistant speeds above 3.2 mbps and have not lost a connection since it was hooked up. Set up was simple. Plug everything in and call the cable company, give them the MAC number on the modem, and your cooking. Nothing else was needed. The modem connected to the router without a problem. The linksys products stack right on top of each other, and take up very little room.
Pros: nice stackable design, allure of Cisco Systems Cons: unstable and glitchy. i may be selling my shares in Cisco soon!
i bought one of these modems last week, and am planning to return it in favor of a motorola sb5100. when i wanted to get more technical details from the Linksys website i found little depth of information, and also became confused because there are 3 different versions of this modem (i have the BEFCMU10 v.3).
during the time i've had this modem my connection has been dropping intermittently but at least once a day. the problem is that the modem wont always re-negotiate a connection and that a reboot or reset is necessary to get it going again. also, the built-in web server locked up on me several times, and so i was unable to get diagnostic information from the modem.
one last thing: the front panel activity light stays on almost all the time and flickers slightly. i'm used to this light being off unless there is actual data transfer going on. now i can't tell if there is actual network activity just by looking at the light, which to me destroys the purpose of this light being there at all.
Pros: Best looking cable modem out there. Cons: Slowest cable modem out there.
I also purchased the Linksys modem cause it looks oh so nice stacked on top of my linksys router and switch. Soon after getting it up and running I decided to do some bandwidth testing hoping the Linksys modem would be faster than the modem from my cable provider(a motorolla modem just like the other person who reviewed this modem). The Motorolla out performs the linksys in all bandwidth tests. Linksys = about 700 kbps as opposed to the Motorolla = about 3mbps. I pay for my 3mbps download speed so I suppose I must sacrifice beauty for speed. :/
