Pros: Excellent value for price, significantly improved previous flaws, uses any wood Cons: Customer service department still very weak, instruction booklet sparse.
I was lucky enough to have caught a LOT more salmon than I'd planned and needed a bigger smoker, fast. My little chief was fine for small batches but lacked any real temp control which often affected results. After reading reviews here I finally ...
Pros: It's easy to use, has a large capacity and is really easy to clean. Cons: The magnetized seal on the blow's out after about the third use.
I bought my smokehouse from Bass Pro Shops (mail order) for $199.00 plus 30 buck to deliver it. I recently moved into a condo and am not allowed to have open flames on the second floors balcony and thought this would work out fine. All in all for the ...
Pros: Great low price. Easy to use and clean. Digital timer/temperature control easy to set. Cons: Bad door gasket design. Smoke box not properly aligned.
I purchased the Masterbuilt smoker from Bass Pro for $170 which is a good price when compared to other similar type smokers. I bought it after reading Epinions reviews and these are my comments: After reading the simple setup instructions, I realized ...
Pros: Absolutely the most cooker for the money I've seen. Cons: Real low temps might not light the chips!
We just got the updated, 2007, Masterbuilt Smokehouse Smoker which we ordered direct from their offices in Columbus, GA. See web site for toll free number. We dealt with a lady named Kim and she was wonderful. We are experienced "smokers" and this ...
Pros: Price and rack holding capacity Cons: seal design, used chip access, and suspect low temperature
turn-on impact.
I purchased the ESQ30B smoker from BassPro for $200 which is a good price when compared to the other similar smoker brands. I used the item several times and these are my comments: 1. The wood holder is not designed very well for removal of ...
Masterbuilt smoker with the NWTF logo by chazman111 ,Nov 21 '06
Pros: Easy to use digital control that controls very close to the temperature setting. Cons: Had I purchased this smoker without the improvements I would not have been satisfied.
I recently bought a Masterbuilt smoker at Bass Pro Shops with the NWTF (National Wild Turkey Federation) logo on it.
It is green on the exterior and the interior is metallic. The unit features an adjustable vent on top to control the exhaust rate. I have always left the vents open all the way to prevent "stale" smoke. It has an adjustable latch to secure the door, a nice feature. No more magnetic door closure to contend with. The addition of wood chips has been made very easy now compared to the floor model (which was an older model black Masterbuilt). The updated wood chip system has a pan that will hold several loads of expended chips before it is easily removed to dump out the ashes. The digital time and temperature panel is as easy to use as can be. Oh, and one other thing that is important to me is that even at 275 degrees (max) the exterior is cool to the touch which tells me that it is well insulated.
I bought one of these for my husband for Father's Day. The first one I brought home was so badly built the screws were stripped out and you couldn't seal the door. We put it back in the box and hauled it back to Bass Pro Shops to exchange it for another one. He used it once to make some beef jerky. Used the instructions and it came out like real crisp bacon. Seriously overdone. Tried to use it again today for the second time only to find out that the display is not working. Totally dead. Now I read that they have a questionable customer service department. Sorry I ever bought the thing.
Pros: Ease of use, Hands off Control Cons: Loss of power interruption.
I received the smoker in April of 2007 as a gift. I was a little concerned with the "Electric" smoker because I have always heard bad things about them.
After reading the manual and some review on the web, I was convinced it was worth taking the chance.
I have used it for Boston Butts, Ribs, Link Sausage, Chicken and probably a few other experiments.
I absolutely love it.
It allows hands off smoking with terrific results.
Easy to clean up racks and pan. Easy access to everything. Easy and safe method for adding chips without opening door.
The only problem I have had is one day the power cycled to the house in the morning while I was at work. (I know the lawyers probably say not to leave it unattended.) After the power loss, the unit does not come back on. When I came home at lunch to add chips and check on it...it was at 100 degrees and cooling down.
Pros: Easy to use, almost idiot proof--(see story with this review) Cons: Doesn't give the deep smoke rings
I have had my electric smoker about 4 months and cook each weekend with great results.
Today had the not so smart idea to put Jack Daniels in the water pan, and use that to "flavor the meat" well all was good for about 20 minutes, it was doing it's thing, I was doing mine.... then I hear a "WhhhhhhhaamP" and look over and the box is lost in a cloud of smoke and steam. It scared the poop outta the family cocker spaniel!
Lesson learned--alcohol in electric smoker is prone to explosion.
But the box still works after I put the door back on, and it is still smoking away!
Its made good food for me! by casey420brenna ,Jun 01 '07
Pros: Pretty good bang for the buck. Cons: Short cord, the readout panel could use more light and can be hard to read.
I got this smoker for my birthday back in October of 06. I had read some of these reviews and was worried about the door seal since a few folks seem to have had a problem with it. So far the problem has not come up and the seal is intact.
I have smoked a number of things in the unit, all with wonderful results. Lots of pulled pork, a few briskets, some chickens, and even a whole turkey at Christmas. There is plenty of room inside for the meats, and the temp control works great. Also enjoy having the timer, so you don't have to babysit it.
Can't really come up with too many bad things to say. It isn't the cheapest model out there, but it is a lot less than most commercial smokers I have seen. I really haven't had any problems with it at all. I have noticed a couple of small rust spots on the top of the unit, even though it is "stainless steel". But I don't cover it or anything and it just sits in my shed where it can get wet. Its just cosmetic though... the inside is fine.
I purchased one of this companies Stainless Steal smokes 2 years ago for $350.00 it has performed well. However the wood chip holder rusted through causing the chips to fall directly onto burners. I contacted Masterbuilt and they indicated the unit was discountinued and they did not have any parts.
As a result, I cannot use this unit. Even though it said Stainless steal, the key component was metal.
Pros: simple , set the time and temperature add wood chips and done. Cons: can't see any at this moment
Just finished the first brisket for 20 people and it was perfect.I had no issue with temperature flactuations , door seal or digital settings . It simply was as good or better as expected . The trays wash and fit perfect in the dishwascher so even cleaning is a snap.. I am so happy I finaly bought it at Academy for 185 incl.tax.Ha
Review for Masterbuilt smoker by felix_434 ,Dec 29 '08
Pros: I have smoked numerous items with great success. It barley uses wood & last for hours. Cons: It runs about 20F higher from what the digital reader states, so a thermometer helps.
I went through the process of searching and using both Electric and charcoal smokers and wanted to give my two sense. Well you don't see very many reviews of these products that the majority of people can enjoy and afford.
