Pros: amazing performance, easy to use, great value Cons: hard to find dealer, high price
My husband and I thought we wanted a Dyson. Before spending that much money on a vacuum, we decided to go to a real vacuum store to see our options and try out different vacuums. I had already done some research using Epinions, and saw that many people ...

The best Value Vacuum from Miele
by jesh ,Sep 21 '05
Pros: Filtration, durable, easy to use, quiet, very powerful, sleek modern design. Cons: none
The Miele Mercury is the best all around value from Miele.
You get the large power head for all types of carpet, even the new frieze short shag carpets. In fact in my research this is the only vacuum that worked well on the short shag carpet.
It comes with the deluxe floor brush for floors. Its the 500 series canister so its certified as a Hepa vacuum.
Its basically the same as the $1,299 Red Velvet but with out the speed control in handle (its on the vacuum body), fits a Hepa filter but its not included, and its doesnt have the fancy paint job (but it does have a metallic silver painted finish.
Its super quiet 69dbs
Never need to change belts.
It indicates when to change the bag.
Deluxe on board tools
Crush proof 360 degree swivel hose
Swivel caster wheels
Made in Germany
All for $899 $400 less than the Miele Red Velvet, and it performs the same.
Best vacuum you can buy.
(Because it is a Diamond Dealer model you will need to shop for it at a Miele Diamond Dealer. I recommend http://www.vacuumsofnaples.com/ )

This thing R O C K S!

Pros: Design, power and ease of use. Cons: Price and having to change brushes if you want to use carpet or hardwood... Bummer.
I am still struggling to come to terms with the fact that I spent a grand on a vacuum cleaner... But, so far so good.
I recently replaced my Hoover Wind Tunnel upright which I had owned and used for, gulp, seven years. I hated the thing from day one but couldn't justify replacing it until it died. That day finally arrived.
I borrowed a friend's Dyson and loved it. Then, I borrowed a Miele. I didn't think it was possible to fall in love with a household appliance but I did.
I went down to our local Miele Diamond Dealer and played with the different models. I went with the Mercury simply because it had the most power. I have kids and a messy husband and I need a vacuum which will suck up the crushed cheerios and other junk on the floor. This one did the trick.
