Pros: Amazing Aurora Toolset Cons: Nothing special about the single player game.
Im a big fan of Bioware games. The Baldurs Gate games are some of my favorite games, especially the second one. In fact, I dont think Ive seen a bad game come out of Bioware, and thats just not something you usually see. Every...
Pros: Visuals, customizability, unlimited replayability. Cons: Included single player mode is not Bioware Quality, poor sounds, some balance issues.
Neverwinter Nights was probably one of the most anticipated games for me. Offering a revamped visual engine and an awesome quest tool, NWN (as fans call it) has an almost unlimited replay value.
Pros: Flexible 3rd editionD&D ruleset; Powerful adventure editor, DM modes Cons: Harsh system requirements, interface can be clunky at times
Bioware Corp, the group responsible for bringing the epic computer role playing game (CRPG) back to the forefront with the hit Baldur's Gate series, is back with Neverwinter Nights. With promises of a robust scenario editor and the ability to...
Pros: Wonderful story lines and characters Cons: Some bugs, needs a good video card
Wow what can I say, I LOVE this game. The last game I can compare to this was GemStone III (another review) which was strictly a MUD text game, a bit like controlling what happens in a book. I had stopped playing that game after 6 years because of the...
Pros: Infinite replayability, great mulitplayer, fun. Cons: sometimes slow, difficult to go up in levels.
Neverwinter Nights is a massive game. Even people who don’t like role playing games will find themselves obsessed with Neverwinter Nights. The game starts off by introducing the story. You are in a time of turmoil for the vast town of Neverwinter. A ...
Pros: Nice idea, create your own modules Cons: Too buggy, annoying interface, high system requirements
Buggy games like Neverwinter Nights are the reason why I stopped playing computer games and switched to consoles. This is the first computer game I’ve bought since last Christmas, and I am reminded why. This game is so buggy and slow that I cannot...
Pros: Good graphics, excellent multi-player potential, toolkit for designing your own adventures. Cons: Not strictly D&D 3rd edition, toolkit learning curve is high.
Neverwinter Nights Manufacturer: Bioware
Platform: PC
Category: Role-playing
Genre: Fantasy
Price: $54.99 (USD)
ESRB Rating: Teen
Pros: Dragons! Superb implementation of 3rd edition rules. Good base and good length campaign. Cons: Visually (graphics) looking dated now.
I am a geek. There I said it. Ever since I could read I have been into reading fantasy books. I have table roleplayed, played computer games into the night and from the early ages of computing I have loved dungeons and dragons esq games but there has ...
Pros: It is a nice game. Good story, more user friendly than Baldur's Gate series. Cons: Crashes more than Evil Keneivel. Minimum requirements are false.
Here is my reveiw of the final release. Once again, Epinions doesn't have a section for it, so I put it here.
GAMEPLAY:
Neverwinter Nights (from here on described as NWN) is the next chapter, or rather "incarnation" or the long running...
Pros: Entertaining with nice visual effects. Good story overall. Cons: Stiff graphics with a lot of loss from the traditional D&D games
We are going on a classic Dungeons and Dragons adventure. I can't wait to assemble my party, work everyone's strengths and weaknesses, and then go out into our isometric world just like Baldur's Gate (BG), and solve some super story. Wait. That's not ...
Pros: All the elements of D&D at the game master's fingertips. Amazingly rendered 3d characters and areas can be built and added. Finally a true multiplayer D&D computer game! Cons: We will have to wait and see.
Ever since I was a young snip of a lad in my seventh and final year of primary school (Probably better known to those in the USA as "elementary School") I have been an avid fan of TSR's classic Advanced Dungeons & Dragons gaming...
Pros: Good multiplay and sound effects Cons: boring single player, primitive graphics
Overview I was sorely, disappointed with the single player experience that Neverwinter Night's offered. A linear story that I completely lost interest in after the first chapter or two was not what I was expecting when I purchased this game. ...
Pros: Solid RPG experience, lots of options, beautiful graphics, a rich storyline, excellent sound and controls Cons: Interface and rules take some learning, some elements differ from tabletop AD&D rulesets.
Neverwinter Nights stands out in the crowded mass of PC Role-Playing titles for two primary reasons: 1) It lives up to its hype, and 2) It actually possesses a “story”.
Merely saying this is a good game doesn’t do the title...
Pros: Excellent translation of classic game, cool graphics, long gameplay. Cons: Tricky ending, repetitive quests, lack of party flexibilty.
There have been countless computer games over the years that have attempted to recreate the magic that sent thousands of nerds scurrying into their basements to play Dungeons and Dragons for hours on end. Very few of these games have been particularly ...
Pros: Good 3d engine, Fairly good adaptation of 3E rules, need I go on? Cons: A resource hog, and a tad buggy
Key:
DnD= Dungeons and Dragons
3E= 3rd edition ruleset
NwN= Neverwinter Nights
PvP= Player vs. Player
DM= Dungeon Master
PC= Player Character
NPC= Non-Player Character
Pros: Many hours of gameplay, solo or online play, create and download new modules Cons: Game is too easy for older characters.
Neverwinter Nights is my second favorite game (Diablo II w/ expansion pack is my favorite). We purchased it when it was first released and the two of us (my husband and I) spent hours upon hours going through the module it comes with. I think we broke it...
Pros: Best implementation of 3rd edition rules so far, relatively authentic compared to the tabletop rules. Cons: Awkward camera controls, faster pace of the game may turn off some hardcore RPG'ers.
The wait is over. For those that have tracked the progress of the development of Neverwinter Nights, you know it's been a long one. A rocky road. A frightening legal snafu with publishers that almost sent the game into the vaporware bin. But it...
Pros: Ability to make modules. Cons: Doesn't quite live up to all the hype for a few reasons.
Neverwinter Nights has been hyped for years as a breakthough RPG, and while it's not a bad game, it doesn't live up to it's full potiential for a number of reasons.
System
For starters, I have a pretty typical mid-range...
Pros: - long lastability
- level editor
- multiplayer Cons: Single player is rather dull
I've been playing Neverwinter Nights (NWN) constantly since it was released and I'm absolutely charmed by this game. It is a followup of the Baldurs Gate (BG) saga but not to be seen als Baldurs Gate 3! The basic difference is that it is based on the 3rd...
Pros: -great replay value
-great for hardcore/RPG fans Cons: -requires lots of time
-not for casual gamer
This review is intended to touch upon the multiplayer aspect of NWN only. For singleplayer reviews, see elsewhere. NWN is easily the game with the most "bang for your buck" value in gaming history. For about $60-70 (NWN 2 expansions), you get about 23 ...
Pros: Good Graphics, Great Multiplayer Concept Cons: Single Player is somewhat short, some visual features do not work on ATI Radeon Cards
When Neverwinter Nights first came out, it was so popular that it took many people days to find a copy of it. This was mostly because of it's hyped multiplayer features.
Neverwinter Nights is a Dungeons & Dragons roleplaying game by Bioware,...
Pros: Expansive campaign creation, fairly accurate rendering of D&D 3E rules... Cons: ...heady system requirements, custom content is a headache to setup/use
For some reason, the press and publicity around Neverwinter Nights reminded me of the U2 song "Even Better Than The Real Thing"...everyone was focusing on the concept of bringing live, interactive role-playing into the realm of the computer. Now,...
Pros: Action-packed, increasingly engaging game! Cons: Still working out some kinks!
Neverwinter Nights is a great RPG; lights, scenery, and non-stop action make this game come alive. I always look for games that challenge my thinking, and allow me to be creative. I dont want to simply follow a storyline thats been set before...
Pros: Immersive, highly realistic character interaction, close to 3E rules, cool loot! Cons: Runs like a slug in mud on a 1.x GHz. STILL WORTH IT!
...Neverwinter Nights is a simply amazing game. Though my supposedly adequate computer runs it at an agonizingly slow pace and conversation options have taken me as long as a full minute per option, I have been immediately and almost totally addicted to ...
Pros: Excellent graphics and gameplay. Cons: Storyline is a little lacking. Some character skills don't make sense.
Neverwinter Nights is an outstanding role playing adventure. The graphics and sound are great. Overall, the gameplay and storyline are very good with only a few minor flaws.
The graphics are the best feature of the game. The game was built...
Pros: Great story, brilliant characters Cons: steep learning curve, easy to get lost
Neverwinter nights is one of those games where you can do what you want, where you want, how you want it. It wouldn't be safe to call it a sandbox game, but it takes the Dungeons and Dragons mindset and immerses the player into a very rich and complex ...
Pros: Great sound and music, good use of the D&D ruleset, expansions and community are good. Cons: Graphics are only average, voice acting is sometimes bad, main storyline okay not great
I have always been a fan of role-playing games. I got hooked on the Final Fantasy series after I had experienced Dragon Warrior, which had been preceded by Ultima: Exodus. Most of these games borrowed heavily from the rules of Advanced Dungeons & ...
Pros: Long, Fun Cons: Sometimes it gets too difficult
Never Winter Nights- Character : When you start Never Winter Nights (NWM) you need to create a player. First, you start with the gender, obviously male of female. Then you choose a race from at least six different races from human to half-orc. After ...
Pros: Excellent graphics, character creator and multi-play. Cons: Fiendish system requirements, difficult to understand Aurora Toolset, unoriginal single-player.
Before I get into depth about the game, why is it set in Neverwinter, some city I've never heard? Why not Waterdeep? That said, NWN is a good game. It has excellent graphics and sound, and the character creation is alot of fun and allows for very...
Pros: Graphics. Gameplay. Humour. Cons: Requires quite a PC.
It's really difficult to be picky about this game - truly an amazing piece of art !
I would say the game feels similar to D2 with one big difference - the visual difference is that of between Tom and Jerry cartoons and [your favourite fx...
Pros: Lovely graphics. Stupendous character options. Cons: Lame gameplay. Sluggish pace. Too much chatting with NPCs.
Neverwinter Nights feels like a overwrought re-tread of Diablo 2. It's as if Bioware (the designers) took all the great elements of earlier RPG fantasy games (like Diablo) and simply added more complexity and detail -- without actually making them more ...
Pros: Great Multiplayer and Worlds Cons: Need a fairly good graphics card if you want to get the full experience
Never winter Nights is going to be great. I just got into the whole RPG thing about a year ago with Baldur's Gate. I just got Ice-wind Dale and am really psyched up for Never winter Nights. Being able to play multi-player with that many people online...
Avoid This Game Like the Plague! by wyrd_guy ,Oct 31 '04
Pros: Looks like it could be fun if you could get it working. Cons: It doesn't seem to work for a whole lot of folks.
Do a search on "Neverwinter Nights" and "crash" and see how many hits you get. Guess what, it's over 55,000!!!
One of the most active threads on all the discussion forums for this game is always regarding crashes. This game seems to work only with certain PC's / video cards, etc...
Given the less than liberal return policies of most software retailers, do you really want to plop down the money for this game only to not be able to run it? You may as well have thrown your money out the window of your car.
I have a state-of-the-art PC (with which I play many, many games) and have been working for the last 15 years as a professional IS Technician. I have no axe to grind, nor am I trying to give you anything but sound advice. Let Atari work out the bugs and get this game working before you spend your money.
Pros: Excellent Gameplay, Multiplayer and Toolset... one of the best RPGs around by far Cons: Buggy sometimes, but patches are available so no worries =)
The game itself is very exciting, requires skill and thought, the perfect RPG, Deluxe CD will be top quality =)
Great Graphics & Interface, Lonely Game Play by critic27 ,Sep 19 '03
Pros: Great graphics, story and game play. Cons: Lonely single player, cannot control henchman much.
Wow! The graphics and game interface is wonderful. The detail is amazing and a story line that pulls you in. Bioware definitely put some serious effort into this game with music score, effects and toolset.
BUT, it gets pretty lonely when playing as a single player and not online. You're only allowed one henchman and there is virtually no background dialog by anyone (even your character) while walking through town/forest/dungeon (very UNLIKE Baldur's Gate series). You cannot control your henchman/summoned creature/familiar much and s/he will do what they want within the parameters you give them, and those parameters are sometimes pretty loose: henchman will attack enemy immediately on sight, even when you don't want him/her to.
Like most RPGs, the game sometimes becomes tedious with the running back and forth necessary to gain experience and to solve necessary quests to go further in the game. There are chapters in this game that are not as fun as others, but overall, I spent many hours having fun.
