'Disposable' Quality TV
by ubiquity0 ,May 18 '05
Pros: Decent picture.
Cons: Terrible reliabilty. Poor warranty coverage. Questionable sound quality.
I bought this model October 2004. Decided on this as I viewed Philips as a quality brand. 7 months later there is no picture at all, and sound will only work for a second or two. The warranty only covers labor for 3 months & the cost to fix is likely to exceed 1/2 of the purchase price. I have my doubts whether it is worth it. Doing further research online similar problems seem to be rampant amongst this and other similar Philips models, so paying for repairs is throwing good money after bad.

Otherwise picture quality was pretty good for its pricepoint. Sound was borderline with distortion on some occasions (almost always in advertisements). I believed it was good value at the time, but if you are fixing or replacing it every few months the economics do not add up.

Philips is a cheap piece of crap
by chrisminor ,May 31 '05
Pros: If the Tv and company wasn't such crap, it would be a great purchase
Cons: Philips is a con in itself
After purchase, sending away my registration card for my warranty and all that good stuff. Approx 4mos later the TV wont turn on for more than 2-3 seconds. Philips Customer Service is trained to repeat 2 words and nothing more, those words are 90days.... 90 days... 90days, meaning that they wont do anything for you after 90 days. And heaven forbid that you throw away or lose your receipt cause that registration card that you sent in isn't worth the paper its printed on cause it is worthless to you. Please do not buy anything from Philips unless you just have this uncontrollable urge to throw money into a trashcan and set it on fire.

Pros: There is nothing except cheap
Cons: company dont stand behind product
This tv I bought 6 mo. ago when I turn the power on the sound comes on for about 2-3 sec and shuts the tv off. It might be cheap but keep your money and buy something that dosnt say Philips. The company dosnt even stand behind there product.
Remember 90 DAYS Philips needs to start thinking of the people

Phillips Television - A Very Bad Purchase.
by pickjj ,Sep 16 '05
Pros: Absolutely None.
Cons: A poor quality product with absolutely no corporate pride or credibility.
After owning this television for just over one year, the picture went completely blank when I turned it on. As you can see from so many other reviews, all customer service would do is tell me to bring it to a service repair facility. The price - Almost $300.00. Almost the price that a new "unit" (a kind word as not to be offensive) from Phillips would cost. I encourage all other Phillips customers to contact the Better Business Bureau to file a complaint. Based on what I've seen on the internet and the dates of the complaints, it is very possible that Phillips sell their products knowing that they are defective, and obviously, they don't care.

Buyer Beware at its Finest
by starwonder ,Nov 03 '05
Pros: good picture when it works
Cons: Poor quality and even poorer corporate pride.
I bought this model seven months ago because it should have been a quality product. Then it started turning off by itself, the picture collapsed on itself and then it would only come on for 2 to 3 seconds at a time. Diagnostics at an authorized service center told me it runs fine. There is no picture. Period. CS keeps quoting the 90 day warranty. Such a disappointment and waste of money. Phillips used to mean quality now it means corporate greed.

Give this one a wide berth
by davies4444 ,Dec 09 '05
Pros: Good quality when it works
Cons: The only set I have ever had that failed in less than 2 years
Worked OK for 23 months , then picture started collapsing in on itself from right side of screen and set randomly switched itself on / off and ran through the setup featyres (normally set through the remote) as if haunted by a michievious tv poltergeist. Took to repair facility and whilst tube is still (just) under warranty the problem is with several (5 altogether) parts that are no longer warrantied. Three weeks later still waiting to get 2 of the 5 necessary parts. It'll be approx $250 to repair .

Good tv till it died
by kevinlg ,Apr 11 '06
Pros: Good picture quality while it lasts
Cons: Dies a horrible death quickly
I bought this phillips tv about two and a half years ago.During the time it worked ,it had a great picture and controls worked well....then...the picture started to get grey horizontil lines. After that it would not turn on once turned off.If it did come back on it started to fade /flash from the right side of the screen. Now it just keeps turning it self off after you turn it on and a crack is heard(probably the high voltage arcing inside the tv).I can't recommend this television as others I've had have been much more durable...especially for the price paid for this one. After all the articles I've read and reviewing my warranty I'm just buying something that has a better durability rating.

Junk Junk Junk!
by kikidee ,Oct 10 '06
Pros: It fills up the big hole in my TV cabinet
Cons: It's junk and it's companies like this which give American workmanship a very bad name.
I purchased this TV on 8/13/04. The picture was very nice and we enjoyed it until 9/19/05 when the TV would no longer turn on. After lugging this 2 ton monster to the repair shop and getting charged $140 for labor (Philips picked up the tab for parts only - fuse & resistor - since it was only one month out of warranty), we had the TV until 10/10/06 when the exact thing happened again! It would not turn on. Of course, the people at Philips can't be bothered with it now that the warranty is up. These sets are apparently manufactured to last exactly 1 year, 1 month. I have a Panasonic TV which works beautifully and it's 25 years old! When you are shopping for electronic equipment and see the name Philips, run in another direction!

Burnt 4 times on this model
by blink73 ,Dec 06 '06
Pros: Beautiful picture
Cons: Absolute junk
I thought Philips was a premium brand. Bought this model, and gee, since it was such a good buy, another one to give to my son. His failed to turn on in only 3 months, took another 3 months for mine to give up. We toted them to a repair shop where the owner said he'd seen quite a few of them, and for a $240 labor charge, fixed 'em both. That was six months ago. Last night, mine turned on for the last time. I'm sure my son's can't be far behind. Before this I'd never owned a TV that quit working without being struck by lightning. Philips: Never again.
