I'm a city girl, born and bred, and used to turning on the faucet and finding good old chemically enhanced water. Recently I moved back to North Carolina from Ohio and my new home has what is referred to as a 'community well'. Right. Rather than ...
Pros: Water tastes better, easy to change filter. Cons: Flow of water is slow, expensive filters, gets in the way.
After my wallet became frustrated with the amount of money it was losing due to the purchase of bottled water and bottled juices, I looked into other options in order to get "drinkable" water. I don't particularly care for our faucet water and will only...
Pros: Great tasting water, easy to install, 3-year warranty. Cons: Very slow flow, unit drips and gets in the way, costly replacement filters.
When the city announced it was going to begin treating our water with ammonia I decided the time had come to find an alternate source of drinking water. I did not want to mess with the expense and hassle of bottled water, so I turned to the various ...
Pros: Clear, clean water. Removes chemicals, tastes, and odors. Long filter life, low cost. Bypass mechanism. Cons: Does not remove bacteria/viruses, reduces vertical clearance in shallow sinks.
Product Overview The PUR Ultimate Water Faucet Filter is a reasonably-priced faucet-mount filtration system. It consists of a cartridge containing activated carbon that absorbs offending chemicals (specific chemicals are listed on the box) from ...
Pros: Only filter (in this price range) that removes the most harmful chemicals from municipal water. Cons: Slow filtration (about 10 seconds for 8oz -- 20 seconds toward end of filter life).
Pur's new faucet-mount filters are much better than they were a few years ago -- although still not trouble-free. In 2001, I gave the Pur Plus Faucet Mount a bad Epinions review. It did a decent job filtering the water, but the unit kept leaking, ...
Pros: Great Tasting Water, Easy To Install, Bypass For Unfiltered Water, Inexpensive Cons: Slow Filtered Water Output, Hot Water Rapidly Degrades The Filter
After about 1 year of buying loads of bottled water, I finally decided to invest in a faucet mounted water filter. After reading the specs on various units, I decided on the Pur Ultimate FM-8100 (chrome color) for $40. The unit comes with the main...
Pros: Water Tastes Better When It Works. Cons: Cartridges block up quickly. Very Very slow water flow.
Horrid Device, Avoid at all costs. Ok, so I usually only write to epinions when a product bites me in the ..., and this is no exception. I purchased this system from a Canadian Tire store for about 40 bux cdn (like 30 usd), installed it and it ...
Pros: Easy installation and filter changing. EXCELLENT product support! Cons: Product life was not up to warranty years.
This product is very easy to install even for the most inept handy man. A twist of the filter container and you have better tasting water with fewer pollutants. Another twist and you can wash your dishes or water plants with just plain...
Pros: Easy to install. Good tasting water. Attractive fixture. Cons: Short filter life - clogs quickly. Replacement indicator inaccurate. Hangs too low in sink.
I recently purchased a PUR filter to replace my culligan. The automatic filter change indicator appealed to me since I often forgot to change my culligan until the water quality started to taste off or the filter rate would slow to a drip. This was often ...
Pros: Looks nice Cons: Waiting 10 minutes for a glass of water is ridiculous
I loved this at first. Then about 3 weeks later, it was all but dripping out of the unit when you wanted filtered water. I called the CS line, and pretty much they said "replace the filter". So, $19.99 for a replacement and I got 6 weeks out of that one. There are only 2 of us, and we do exactly like the directions say. Completely ridiculous.
Pros: Great tasting water. Cons: Poorly constructed, broke in six months, slow water release.
My husband and I bought this filter less than one year ago. Although the taste of the water was excellent, six months into it, water started squirting out of the small viewing window for the filter. We can not get it to stop leaking and spraying everywhere.
This filter also gets slower and slower at releasing water. I contacted PUR to tell them the problem and ask for a replacement unit. They responded with, "Yeah, that's too bad for you, buy a new one."
I am very disappointed. I would NEVER buy this again!
Pros: The water tastes very good.
Cons: Expensive filters for amount of water, clogs often, poorly manufactured housing, low water volume
I have used the PUR ultimate filter system for almost three years. Even though I have had it for this long and still am using it I would not recommend it to anyone unless there were no other options available. I am now on my second unit. The last one sprung a leak between the sight glass where the filter indicator is and the filter housing. This happened about 18 months after hooking it up. I bought another unit because Costco had a good deal going at the time. It was almost the same price for the unit and a filter as I was for just the filter. I should have known better. I have know had this unit for just over 12 months and it also leaks. Not form the sight glass but from either the filter or the faucet end whichever one you are not using water drips from it at a fairly steady rate.
Ultimate Dissapointment - Another Bad PUR Product by steveohm ,Jan 30 '06
Pros: It lasted two months longer than their cheaper model Cons: Poor quality. It broke. Bad warranty service.
My well-meaning wife bought another PUR water filter, but this time she bought the 'high-end' one, so it 'wouldn't break' like the other two. This was the slick-looking chrome FM-8100 faucet mount.
After 9 months the filter on/off valve failed. I have made three attempts to contact PUR before my warranty runs out. Their "we're here to help" 800 number rings once, then goes into disconnect signal. Contrary to what the manual says, there is no way to get warranty service through the website.
It astounds me that this brand still exists. Every product I've had of theirs failed within months.
UPDATE: After a half hour on hold, I got through to PUR. They will be sending a replacement. Okay, two stars.
Pros: Water tastes good. Cons: Low flow, not good value for money.
When my husband and I first got out Pur filter we were ecstatic- no more Brita pitcher taking up the fridge. Then I realized that the water coming out of the filter didn't get cold enough fast enough. So I was wasting the expensive filter letting water flow through until it was cold and still had to add ice! We ended up just filling a pitcher with the filtered water and sitting it in the fridge which defeated the entire purpose for buying it in the first place.
After a year, it broke- water leaked constantly and the water flow was slow(er). Since we had so many filters left (we buy in bulk) we bought another. This one just broke too! Less than 6 months later! Again I am stuck with several replacement filters that I spent almost $50 on alone and cannot return. I'm going back to Brita.
