Pros: Price, hand crank moveable table, accuracy, low noise level Cons: Small table, self-ejecting chuck key
I'm a woodworker for the very practical reason that I say I am. Those of you with talent, training, and experience would probably rate me as a firewood maker. That aside, I love making sawdust. Anything leftover from the aforementioned waste ...

Pros: Reasonable value for the dollar Cons: Apparent quality control problems
I gather that the DP101 is the successor to the DP100, having added features such as a table crank and a dial-type depth stop that were missing from the DP100. The basic specs appear identical: 1/2" chuck, 2.5" spindle travel, 1/4hp induction motor, 5...

by rimit1954 ,Nov 10 '06
Pros: easy to assemble, fun to use, with caution. Cons: should come with a small light for better action.
Have assembled and used in both woodwork and metal shop. Unit is durable and somewhat fun to use. User will enjoy accurate holes. Jigs will make user friendly and safer.

Ryobi 10 Inch Drill Press
by kathihil ,Oct 09 '04
Pros: great workmanship/craftsmanship, reliable, heavy unit (60 lbs!!) Great value! Cons: spindle handles vibrate loose.
I just purchased the Ryobi DP-101 and am very impressed with it. What I expected to get was an 'adequate' drill press, but instead I was quite pleased to see very excellent workmanship in the finished product. Most of the drill presses I looked at in this price range ($99) left much to be desired. This unit is very sturdy and reliable. One of the very minor problems I've encountered are the feed handles, no matter how tight I try to make them, they eventually vibrate loose. This machine does not have that much vibration at all. Friends have suggested Loctight, as it's name sake suggests, it does just that: LOCK TIGHT!. If for some reason the handles would have to be removed, I'm afraid problems would be encountered. Another friend suggested pipe tape, which I will give a try. All in all, great workmanship, reliability, and accuracy. By accuracy I mean the spindle assembly has no wobble that I can tell which of course makes drilling a hole perfectly round and straight. In other units of this size that I looked there always was a bit of play in the spindle assembly.
