This is one of the best

by g0ld , Jun 01 '00
Pros: Quality,Speed,Performance,and Price
Cons: Must know what you are doing if you are going to install it yourself.
Well, first of all I will tell you why I purchased this amazing Video Board for my computer. I build computers with my father for a hobby-it is probably one of my favorite things to do. I was up-grading my own PC at the time, but I didn't have...

Don't make the same mistake

by taciturn6097 , Dec 17 '00
Pros: Cheap, speedy
Cons: bad drivers
I admit it. I bought into the hype. Flash back a couple years: nVidia's Geforce256 had just been announced and was going to be the Next Big Thing, with its revolutionary hardware transform and lighting engine. Then the Savage 2000 chipset from S3...

Great card but has its problems

by nxs4ever , Nov 18 '00
Pros: Great value, acceptable performance for any hardcore gamer and great performance for average gamers seeking great value and performance. Has S3TC lighting effects and great hardware DVD support plus cheap TV-OUT compatibility.
Cons: Drivers out of date, S3TC is not hardware but software accelerated! Slow results on Expendable (game) and very low-end performance with TV OUT.
First off, read the other reviews from hardcore gamers, I am not a hardcore gamer. Read on if you're a frequent but not a gaming /OC freak...

Last night, I bought the S3 Viper II card at outpost.com with free overnight shipping so it came this...

Slow in updating Drivers

by davicar , Oct 27 '00
Pros: May work well in Win 98
Cons: Problematic Win 2K support. Questionable on Athlons
I purchased the Viper II for to complete building my new Athlon 700 system and have had nothing but trouble from the card. First I checked the s3 website and found that they offered Windows 2000 drivers. Since I was planning on running Win 2K on my new...

okay for the money, but be careful

by mecampro , Dec 08 '00
Pros: PRICE, good enough performance for many
Cons: new drivers ?, not for hardcore gamers
I got an OEM Viper II about 3 months ago when I was building a new Thunderbird 800 system on an ASUS A7V. It was a few weeks after S3/Diamond/Sonic Blue announced they were getting out of the graphics card business and the formerly $179 card could be...

Thread carefully

by wchua , Jun 11 '00
Pros: Good Performance Potential
Cons: Poor Drivers, Buggy support
I bought the Diamond ViperII after being taken in on how powerful the card is. It also offered the promise of offering performance that is almost as good visually as the nvidia Geforce based graphics cards.

I was thus very disappointed with...

Promises & yet More Promises

by garrjo , Oct 05 '00
Pros: Possibility of being a Great Card
Cons: Applications on the Market do not yet support it. By the time they will much more powerful cards are available
Near the end of last year...I was thinking on building another High Performance PC. In my Checklist to buy was the Viper II, which at the time had rave reviews and excellent marketing to boot. (Did, I ever hear as heavy marketing on the Viper 770?)....

It works for me

by BrianThomason , Feb 03 '01
Pros: Cheap, 2D/3D support, 4X AGP, TV Outputs
Cons: A bit glitchy on some games, Direct X support is shakey
I just upgraded my computer by buying a new motherboard, case, cpu, memory, and video card saving me hundreds of dollars. One of the little beauties that came in this system is the now rather old, 32 Meg Diamond Viper II 220 with the S3 Savage2000...

Diamond Viper II Z200 - Heres a review

by CyrixDes , Sep 07 '00
Pros: Cheap, good price/performance, S3TC
Cons: Drivers not fully supporting all the cards many features just yet
There has been a lot written about this card and having just purchased one I felt it was time to use my experience and write an article. It is somewhat limited at the moment because I only have my MII-333 in and havent put my MII-433 in yet.
The...

Viper II - I'm still undecided

by GraWar , Nov 25 '00
Pros: good specs, solid performing chipset
Cons: drivers never hit full potential
This card has had a lot written about it mainly because it could have been a real winner for S3/Diamond but hasn't really lived up to its expectations. It has had many of the advanced features of its time like S3TC, TV-Out, Hardware DVD decoding.

DOES NOT REALLY MATCH UP TO EXPECTATIONS

by htown1397 , Apr 01 '01
Pros: 128 Bit graphics
Cons: Lack of good resolution support
The computer that I bought a year ago had an ATI Rage 128. Well, since at that time there was allot of hype about the Viper II. I went out and spent about 200 dollars, to buy this card. And when I got home I took out my ATI 128 and put in my new Viper...

Save your money

by stack_ovfl , Jun 11 '00
Pros: low price
Cons: You get what you pay for
I bought this card to serve as an interim solution for gaming until the geForce2 cards came out. I kept this card for less than two days before I returned it because I had so many problems playing games with it. At the time I had the latest updated...

A Fine Upgrade

by jeep86 , Jul 18 '00
Pros: Picture quality and easy installation
Cons: Could be a little faster but not bad
I purchased the diamond viper 11 to replace a S3 savage4 AGP which I hated. Quantex used this card as a oem in my system and delivered slow speeds and text. I did much research on this card not wanting to pay over $200. I am not an all out gamer. I...
