Pros: Speed in both Intel processor chip and Wi-Fi chip. Size, screen, color. Weight and size. Cons: Hot! Runs way too hot and battery life is about half of Sony's claim.
Still, decades later, there is no other company or corporation I know of that can create the quality of a picture like that of Sony. Camcorders, televisions and LCD screens are as crisp and perfected as one could hope for. This is my fifth Sony VAIO ...

Pros: Beautiful styling, multi-functional, plenty of features
Cons: Burning hot, expensive, lackluster battery
Sony VAIO laptops through the years have adhered to one adage. Fit everything anyone can need into a package that is, for lack of words, beautiful. Performance, however, is somewhat lacking for the price tag, but the VGN-S460 does maintain ...

It's a great overall machine!!!!
by jerry3572343 ,Jul 13 '05
Pros: Feel and looks, performance, screen, etc. etc.... Cons: right side gets warm(hd), price, 2 many vent holes may attract dust
I bought this one to exchange the 2 defective Acer units. Too bad I did not buy Sony in the first place. The notebook is Made In Japan, and compared to chinese Acers it's like comparing Ferrari to Echo. Acers build quality is very questionable. The feel is solid, the size is very compact, the performance is far beyond what a mobile user usually requires, one can play Far Cry on this machine with NVidia 128 6200 card installed.
The battery lasts about 2 hours when watching the DVD and longer when just using Word or browsing the net.
The screen is the best I've seen, very bright and crisp.
I comes with Sony pre-installed software, many of which are indeed good, however, I replaced quite a few with my choices.
Drivers and utilities are available from the web easily. I even updated the BIOS on the first day and it was a bit scary:)
Overall - very very good machine! Recommended!

Problems
by pufflennon ,Aug 08 '05
Pros: Small, lightweight Cons: problems
I've gone through two so far and both have had problems with the mouse pad locking up, and it's been way too slow opening files. First unit got stolen - have to send this one back to the factory for repairs! Runs way too hot.

6 months on and still very pleased
by upthewolves ,Feb 27 '06
Pros: Looks, size & weight, features, performance Cons: Could heat an average house, you'll need to take the mains adaptor with you
Great mobile laptop in terms of weight, size ,features and performance. Looks fantastic externally and the screen is outstanding. As others have said it does run very hot at the front right hand side. To the extent that you will be uncomfortable if actually sitting with it on your lap without a magazine under it. Battery life is underwhelming. No quality issues at all and no cause to need support. Overall a top notch machine, not cheap but good value.
