PARTS ARE TIMED TO BREAK by sandraclisham ,Jun 05 '09
Pros: Adjusts to personal preference Cons: Expensive to maintain
My husband and I bought a sleep comfort bed in January, 2007. The full warranty is for two years --- And, like most products made today, Sleep Number is no different. The LCD readings broke down - and only dashes appeared VERY shortly after the warrant expired. I called Sleep Number and she said the 'pump' went up and it would cost over $400.00 to replace, however, I would only be responsible for a little over $120.00. Please correct me if I am wrong, but I believe when you purchase a bed, it should last for more than two years. It is advertised to be a twenty year warranty. Pardon the pun, the I believe if we keep 'pumping' money into this bed, is it really a good value afterall. And, after we pay this, what else may go up. Not a good investment if you don't plan to pay for a continuing maintenance expense.
sleep number bed have terrible odor by jimbjimb ,May 26 '09
Pros: adjusts easily and does give good back support Cons: smell is a real problem and won't go away. sensitive noses be forewarned.
I have had a sleep number bed in florida for a couple of years without any problems, but I purchased one this year for my home in Maine and the smell emitting from the latex is intolerable. I have tried airing it and doing all the things customer service suggested. My mate cannot sleep on it. Smell is just to chemical strong. this is something you unfortunately won't discover in a test lay down in the showroom..but could become a nightmare for you if you have sensitive nostrils. other than that I like the bed...but its a huge problem will probably cause me to give this expensive bed away.
Pros: Great Bed Cons: Terrible customer service. Must get everything in writing!!!
I can't stress the title more. Great bed but spoiled by customer service. I financed the bed and paid it off in 9 months. 1 year later I get a call from collections saying I owe $414!!! Unfortunatly my receipts were destroyed with a water leak but my bank statements were not enough! Long story short, if you don't have the money for the bed outright, don't get the bed. They will give you nothing but headaches later!!!!!
ONLY PAY CASH! NEVER FINANCE WITH SELECT COMFORT!!!
Big Expectations, Bigger Disappointment by bullitt4276 ,Aug 06 '08
Pros: It's light. Cons: Price, complexity, warranty. It's just an expensive air mattress. 100% warranty only lasts two years.
After hearing so much hype about sleep number beds, we visited a store and got the demonstration. The sales person determined our sleep number was 25 using their heat mapping system to determine pressure points. Two days later we ordered the bed, a Select Comfort 7000. My wife sleeps fine but from the very first night, I wake up several times through the night and my back aches in the morning. I've tried softer and harder settings, all to no avail. The sales person said to come in and they'll re-determine my sleep number. I don't have time for that and I don't think it will change a thing. I've tried everything from 25 to 60 and I still wake up every two hours and my back hurts every morning. A bed that price shouldn't need that much experimentation and adjustment.
The 30 day trial period is almost up and it's going back.
An air mattress on top of plastic "legos." - 9000 review by christin_k ,May 09 '08
Pros: 30-day return policy Cons: Customer Service robotic, cheap construction
My back did feel good sleeping on the mattress since I like a harder bed than my husband. The problem the foundation creaked every time we moved. We havent slept more than an hour at a time since we got it! When we called customer service, the rep wasnt able to do anything but send us another base piece, in SEVEN days! And they couldnt even guarantee that the bed would stop creaking.
Be leery of the base/foundation, our sales person said the 9000 base was sturdier since it didnt have any screws. They havent worked out the kinks with the base!
Thankfully, the company offers a 30-day return policy!
The bed has an obnoxious odor! by mooseisloose ,Jan 17 '08
Pros: SC IS DUMB ENOUGH TO SELL A BED THAT STINKS Cons: EVEN DUMBER TO THINK I'M GOING TO TRY A DE-STINK IT MYSELF
We purchased a bed for nearly $3k and first night obnoxious odor - next morning called the company - oh, customer service knows about this smelly problem - it's the foam and the way it is packaged - just take apart your bed, roll up the foam, air it out for a few hours, use Fabreze, use dryer sheets, open a window - according to Amanda in Customer Service. Did I mention it's January in Ohio - and that I paid $3k for the bed - give me a break - if you know the bed smells before you sell it- solve the problem ------ TAKE YOUR BED BACK YOU FOOLS - AND SLEEP ON YOUR OWN STINK!
In mid-September, my wife and I purchased a Select Comfort 7000 bed from a local store. I was charged nearly $4000. After four weeks of waiting for delivery (that was promised within 4 days) and staying home one Saturday on the promised deliver day, WE took the initiative to call Select Comfort customer service and learned our order was first lost, then placed into the wrong customer folder, then shipped to the wrong address, where delivery was refused. After weeks of frustration, rude customer service staff, waiting on hold for 20 minutes at a time, we decided to process the return. Select Comfort informed us that they will HOLD OUR MONEY for another week before the return is finalized. The company never apologized, never offered a solution when problems compounded and never offered to make amends for their deliberate incompetence. As a final note, Select Comfort ALWAYS records their conversations with you and will not allow the recorder to be "shut off" at your request. Select Comfort's telephone recording policy violates your privacy rights. Please take this into consideration before you even think about doing business with them.
Pros: None that I can think of. Cons: Body impressions, loss of air, etc.
This inflatable mattress has many flaws, and little upside. I had to have it in home to discover this. After 28 days, I sent it back to Select Comfort.
Pros: Initial Sales Person nice. Cons: Horrendous customer service if you want to return!
I purchased the Select Comfort 7000 due to neck/back issues and recommendation from a Physical Therapist. Unfortunately, both my husband and I decided that this bed was NOT for us and my pain increased substantially sleeping on this bed. I called within 10 days and the customer care representative requested that we give the bed at least 2 more weeks since we had 30 days anyway. Unfortunately, I took her advice and am unable to sleep in the bed. I called customer care and they now say it will take 3 days to get paperwork to the Home Delivery people to pick up the bed and then another 2+ weeks to pick up as well as another 2 weeks for a refund of $3K . I asked to speak to a supervisor - no go. I called back and again the customer care rep refused to give me a supervisor. So... I called the main office and they said the only person that can help is at the customer care Number. Bottom line - I am being sent in a circle with no resolution and no way to get a new mattress in and this mattress out.
Will never have to buy another bed! by gsharris ,Apr 12 '07
Pros: Easy to move, warranty, change firmness, dual chambers, Little to no movement Cons: Check periodically to make sure there has been no slight loss of air from chambers.
After doing a lot of research, we decided to but a sleep number 7000 bed by Select Comfort. This is the best investment we have made in any piece of furniture. We both have bad backs, and sleeping on a sagging bed for years didn't help. Our back were so out of place, that we found ourselves slowly adjusting the mattress each week. What felt comfortable at first, slowly changed as our backs straightened out. We went from a 25 to a 55 sleep number over a few months. What this made us realize is that when you buy a bed and you try it out, it may feel comfortable at first, but as your body changes, you have a hard physical day or you just get older, you have different needs. Now, whenever we need something softer to compensate for some sore muscles from overdoing it - just change the bed. Husbands bercidis went away in his shoulder and we have no more lower back pain.
Loving my Select Comfort 7000 by lynn0707 ,Mar 27 '07
Pros: Adjust to my body no matter what position I sleep in. No permanent lumps. Cons: Price a little shocking at 3500 but it's worth it. Needs deep pocket sheets.
Coming from the military I thought I could sleep on anything, and I could but no comfortably. When my husband and I got our first bed together we bought a wave-less water bed thinking it would help my aching back...wrong. So we went in search of that perfect bed. After trying several different types we found our local Select Comfort store.
We were surprised on how comfortable they were. Little pricey at first glance. But we decided to give it a try. We really would be out much if we didn't like it. So we purchased the 7000 model in an Eastern King.
We have been sleeping on it for about 9 months now and I wont say that it cured my aching back but it certainly helped. I do not wake up just wanting to go back to sleep to escape the pain, I actually feel like I got real sleep. This may sound a little like a line but most of the time I feel like slept like I did when I was a kid.
Very limited warranty. Owner responsible for return costs. Materials not durable and short life span
I am 6'1", 195 pound. I've owned my bed for approx. three years now. Pump was replaced after three months. Bed is worn to a point that it should be replaced.
I sleep alone. I have rotated the foam in the pillow top as directed, foam has compressed, especially the edge where I sit to enter/exit the bed and at my shoulders across the bed. Bed 'hammocks" worse directly in the center (even though I have the twin air chamber queen size, both chambers set the same). Two people cannot sleep in the bed as they will roll together in the sunken center. Company says I must replace the entire bed, cannot replace only the pillow top foam. Also must personally package the entire bed, take to UPS, pay for the return shipping. Can only receive a 'refurbished' bed with what remains of my original warranty.
Warranty does not cover the entire cost of the 'new' refurbished bed. Warranty is pro-rated, very limited. Poorly made parts. Frame/'base' were warped, didn't fit together. Plastic parts make noise when bed moves. Air chambers do not hold pressure. Pump must be frequently "rebooted".
still questioning my purchase by dietscha ,Feb 20 '07
Pros: you can say you have a sleep number bed..big deal Cons: pricey, not nearly as good as advertised.
i was tempted to call the sales person at the particular store my wife and i bought our 7000 king. my plan was to tell her that i wanted to thank her for the bed and say that the bed actually has made me more money. since i sleep worse than ever, constantly toss and turn, and each time i do turn,i wake up, i just get up at 3 or 4 in the morning as that's when i have been waking up since we've gotten the bed(about a month). my wife likes it but does admit that she tosses and turns more also. for 4000.00 i would really have expected more
Pros: Friendly Customer service Cons: Air mattresses leak - Home Delivery Pickup lost record
We purchased the model 7000 King set. Almost immediately, my wife noticed that her side was much too soft by the morning. Sure enough, despite setting it for 55 it was 20 to 30 by the morning. We followed all instructions, including switching the hoses and installing the replacement bladder that was sent. We continued to have the problem. She would wake up in the middle of the night and have to refill, which would wake me up. We gave up and called customer service to arrange for "Home Delivery" to get the mattress. A $200 service. They picked it up, but now, two weeks later still no refund. Customer service claims "Home Delivery" has "lost" the bed and they are investigating. We are currently out $3,200.
If you are thinking about purchasing from this company, call their cust. service 1-800-472-7185. Listen carefully, they have an option for "Air loss" problems. Danger Will Robinson!!! Steer Clear.
THE NIGHTMARE OF THE SLEEP NUMBER BED. by samstress44 ,Jan 28 '07
Pros: NO PROS WHAT SO EVER Cons: CHEAP, CHEAP, COMPANY WON'T RETURN EMAILS OR CALL YOU BACK.
MY HUSBAND AND I HAVE OWNED THE 7000 SLEEP NUMBER BED FOR 2 YEARS. WE HATE IT. I HAVE NOT HAD A GOOD NIGHT SLEEP SINCE OWNING THIS BED. I HAVE CALLED THE COMPANY AND GET NO RESPONSE. THE PUMP WAS REPLACED TWICE DUE TO THE FLUCTUATING OF THE NUMBERS. I WAKE UP SORE ALL OVER, BACK STIFFNESS, BONE BONE, YOU NAME IT. I HAVE BEEN SLEEPING ON MY COUCH. I WISH I HAD READ THESE REVIEWS BEFORE SPENDING OVER 3OO0 DOLLARS FOR THIS CAMP OUT BED. IT IS CHEAP, THE MATTRESS SINKS IN THE MIDDLE. THE EDGES SAG, THE FOAM IS NOT OF GOOD QUALITY. I TRIED PUTTING A MEMORY FOAM ON TOP AND STILL NO LUCK. I AM NOW IN THE MARKET FOR A GOOD OLD FASHION SPRING BED. DON'T BE SOLD ON THIS HORRIBLE BED. LIKE I SAID THIS IS A NIGHTMARE FROM BED HELL.
MY HUSBAND AND I BOUGHT A SLEEP # BED OVER THE SUMMER. WE'VE HAD THE BED FOR ABOUT 6 MONTHS. I HAVE TO SAY I DON'T FEEL REFRESHED IN THE MORNING. WE SPENT OVER $2400. ALL I CAN SAY IS I WISH I WOULD OF READ THE REVIEWS AND DONE MORE HOMEWORK ON THIS PURCHASE. YOU LIVE AND YOU LEARN!! ITS LIKE A GLORIFIED AIR MATTRESS.
We nicknamed our bed "The Cramp Number" by s34n ,Dec 10 '06
Pros: If any, the remote control is easy to operate. Cons: This bed is just an expensive remote controlled air mattress.
This bed is proof that washed-up tv stars will say anything for a buck. I hope Lindsay Wagner can sleep at night, because my wife and I sure can't.
1. First pump lasted only 4 months, and replacement also leaks
air slowly.
2. Special deep pocket sheets are required which are more expensive and hard to find.
3. It does not matter that it has two seperate air "chambers" in it because it sinks in the middle which is where both of us end up every night...in the sink hole in the middle of our 3600 dollar nightmare of a bed.
Buyer Beware of the Select Comfort Warranty by finman911911 ,Dec 04 '06
Pros: Comfortable bed when the pump is holding air properly. Cons: The pump only lasted 3 years and the warranty is for 20 years.
Buyers beware is not as good as most think!! The sleep number warranty after 2 years takes 20% off the top plus 4% for each year from the beginning. So if your pump fails at 3 years 2 months, you will need to pay for 20% plus 4yrs X 4% or the first 36% of the cost of a new $450 pump. (approx $180 to your doorstep). Then if your pump fails again, your warranty starts at the beginning even though you bought a new pump.
The bed has never been moved. It is sitting exactly were it was plugged in 3years 2 months ago. I bet in the 3 years the remote has not been used more than 20 times.
Pros: Very comfortable, and affordable. Cons: Upset that I didn't have one before.
I have had a Sleep Number 7000 model for almost five years now, and it's been nothing but awesome!
I don't toss and turn nearly as much trying to get comfortable, I get back pain relief, and I feel great when I wake up in the morning.
The last time I threw my back out, I raised my Sleep Number 10 points, and in a couple of days, it felt better because my lower back had extra support that it needed. A lot like an adjustable lumbar support in a really nice car.
Poor customer service - Bed acceptable by cfields ,Mar 21 '06
Pros: Adjustable, replaceable pillowtop Cons: Poor customer service, cost to return and exchange
I purchased the 5000 model at first, to hard and "plastic" feeling exchanged it for the 7000 model which is acceptable, the difference being the 7000 has more softness with a thicker mattress pad. The problem is the exchange, they didn't credit the full amount for the 5000 model and I have lost $800 when I should of been out only for shipping and set up. Ive been unable to get an explanation for this, one rep said "don't you think the 7000 model is worth it". This frustrated me further and decided to return the 7000 model for full refund but found out I would lose even more money paying to return it.
I wish I had paid closer attention to the other reviews about the return/exchange problems.
The 7000 model is acceptable but not worth the hassle and loss of $800.
Sleep Number 7000 is Heaven! by hollykaytoo ,Mar 01 '06
Pros: No more shoulder or hip pain. Cons: 1 Wireless remote. Wish it was 2.
I have had my bed for 3 yrs now and I get the most wonderful pressure reduction that I sleep through the night.
It's like a cloud! I hate to go on vacation because I miss my bed. I'm so glad that I decided to buy it.
Select Comfort Mattress Sleep Number 5000 by dudu7890 ,Feb 13 '06
Pros: Nice concept. Cons: It really doesn't work.
Do not buy this mattress. There is no way that you can really understand how it is going to be in the long term within the 30 day money back guarantee. The air chamber technology is poor and in my bed, at least, the air leakage was so much that I woke up in agony every morning. Also, my sleep number was radically different in the morning than the night before. Needless to say, customer service have been awful. They are lucky I am not suing them and sending them my medical bills.
This is poor science; don't be fooled. Stick to a traditional mattress.
TERRIBLE QUALITY... STAY AWAY by mhowell1176 ,Feb 02 '06
Pros: Cannot think of any? Cons: Too many to list.
My wife and I purchased a 7000 series king bed less than a year ago. We have already replaced the motor THREE times, and it still does not work properly. The advertisement states that you can choose a number that is right for you, but they neglected to tell us that variations of up to 㦔 can occur each night. This bed was very expensive, and my wife and I have had terrible back problems ever since we purchased the bed. After repeated complaints and correspondence with Select Comfort, they have basically stopped trying to help us, and have told us (in not so many words) Sorry, but theres nothing were going to do about it. I would strongly advise everyone to stay away from this bed.
Pros: in very nice for 6 mouths Cons: the bed moves alot when people get into it and leaves it.
The bed was very comfortable the first few mouths but then it sunk in at the head. It made me feel like I was sleeping in a whole. I call the company and they replace it with no problem. In few more mouths it did it again and again every 6 mouths I had to replace the cover. After 3 years they want me to pay $160 dollar to replace it and it will go up 4% every year after that. I try to call the company but with no luck. You like the bed but you better off buying a new bed with the money you spend on the bed you can buy 4 matters. The bed also sinks and raised when people get into it and out. When you roll over the whole bed moves. .
Pros: Comfort, ease of adjusting, lack of aches and pains. Cons: Sometimes loses or gains a little pressure; price.
We bought our Select Comfort 7000 bed about 7 months ago.
My husband and I have never slept better! We love it!!!
We were very nervous about buying it after reading some of the reviews about the smell of the mattress, so I called the salesman again. When they delivered it, the mattress had been extra-packed, and they advised us to put some dryer sheets between the foundation foam and the air mattress part just to be on the safe side. We never had one problem with smell.
The only thing we detected is that we sometimes have to adjust our mattresses to their numbers again - the mattresses seem to lose or even gain pressure. The only thing I can think of are fluctuations in atmospheric air pressure, but not sure.
The bed is rather expensive, but we are loving it every night when we get in it.
I have added a TempurPedic pillow as I had to have cervical spine surgery recently. I have been able to comfortably rest in this combination. It's wonderful!
Pros: Quality construction.
First rate sales and customers service. Cons: Poor sleep. Pain.
Well, I hoped this would be the end all - but it is not. Overall, the bed is not comfortable. We tired high settings, low settings, mid settings - never felt refreshed. I believe the crux of the problem is that the air mattress does not provide independent suspension. That is - when you press down in one area, pressure will increase in another.
Re-checking their website, realzied they don't have any ortheopedic claims.
This thing seems like a nifty invention - but its really just an overpriced air mattress.
Pros: Great Adjustability Cons: Weak sidewalls, tilt when one person leaves the other in bed.
This mattress has weak foam sidewalls.
Every morning, when I make the bed, I have to
adjust the sides by pulling the outer cover out
on the bottom and shoving the foam down to meet the seam!!
There doesn't seem to be a problem otherwise.
We bought the 3000 series, as knowing our "number" was not as important as the bed itself. There is some loss of inflation felt when one of us gets off the bed and the other one stays. We love the adjustability
but not these weak sidewalls!!!!!
Great bed...but too warm. by devilhead ,Jun 14 '05
Pros: Soft cozy pillowtop, comfortable and adjustable to your needs. Cons: Sometimes you cant sleep because the bed is too warm!!
I actually love this bed.It is the most comfortable bed I've ever slept on.You can adjust it anyway you want and the pillowtop is very cozy. The only problem I have with this bed is that it is very warm, sometimes so warm that it disrupts your sleep! It is great in the Winter, but when it gets warm out, you toss and turn and sweat! If it wasnt so warm it would be the perfect bed..hands down!
Select Comfort 7000 Queen (Disgusting) by robu ,Nov 08 '04
Pros: None to share Cons: Smelled like moldy foam. Not worth the close to $3000.00
I have never been more dissatisfied with a product. I ordered the 7000 series with the pillow top and that foam top smelled disgusting. I had another foam top sent to my home and it smells so bad it is stinking up my whole garage. I now am forced to spend $200.00 out of my pocket to send the whole thing back and I still have to go out and buy a mattress. You can have it!!!!
Select Comfort 7000 - comfy by HOT HOT HOT by jerseygirl1 ,May 24 '04
Pros: very comfortable, very pretty. Cons: HOT,HOT,HOT...very expensive
We purchased this very beautiful bed. The comfort is wonderful, BUT the heat from the bed is just unbearable. I tried everything to cool off. I put an imperial (top of the line) mattress pad with 300ct. pima cotton sheets, used no blanket and took a cool shower before bed and dressed lightly. Any part of me that touched the mattress was very hot, unbearably hot. I had to sleep on the sofa for a few nights when i just couldn't handle it. I tried to put a quilt under me to act as a barrier. It didn't help. We finally had to return it. As comfortable as it is, I couldn't sleep due to the heat. The delivery people told me they get a lot of returns on this model. Doesn't that sound funny that a company knows that they have a problem and just ignores it? I would only recommend this bed if you are moving to Siberia.
The 7000 is the best bed we have ever slept in. by meatmanky ,Mar 14 '04
Pros: The most luxurious bed you could ever purchase! Cons: We have not seen anything that we could complain about.
The 7000 is the best bed we have ever slept on. We have had no problem with mattress leaks or pump problems. The 3 inch foam pillow top is the most comfortable bed we have ever slept on and is far superior to a spring mattress. The bed is warranted for 20 years so I am expecting a long life with it. I realize that if a pump breaks or a mattress deflates it may take a week to get replacement parts but what would happen if we had choose to buy a spring mattress? Would anyone do anything about it? I have read some negative comments regarding this bed and think this could be a case of buyer's remorse. Once their bed is working properly they should be very happy with the quality of the bed.
Just give Select Comfort a chance to make it right with you and then judge the bed for what it is.
What is it?
The most luxurious bed you could ever purchase!

Great for sore fibromyalgia muscles and it eliminated my morning back pain by lornapat ,Nov 20 '03
Pros: no pain, heavenly comfort, precisely adjustable, pillow top zips off for eventual replacement
Cons: costly but worth every dime
This mattress eliminated the horrific lower back pain that I was waking up with every morning. Previously the tempurpedic mattress helped my sore muscles, but it didn't support my back enough after my injury. Quality innerspring mattresses provided good back support but aggravated my sore muscles. This mattress solves both my problems. At number 55 it gives my lower back great support yet it's still soft enough to baby me. I found my perfect number the second night. My husband's back pain stopped the very first night. We're ecstatic. I've read both good and bad reviews on every mattress, and I'm glad I didn't let the bad ones scare me off. Speaking for myself: 1. I have no hammock effect at this setting. 2. Ours is on a sturdy homemade wooden platform and it doesn't squeak no matter what. 3. I can't feel the center divider at all. 4. I have plenty of room on the king size.
I have nothing but the highest praise for this mattress, and I never want to sleep on anything else.
