CAUTION! Not For the Meek!

by Bruguru Bruguru is a Lead on Epinions in Restaurants & Gourmet, Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 50, Oct 26 '00
Pros: Wonderfully roasty, intense, hoppy stout
Cons: None come to mind
As all serious beer drinkers know, Guinness is the 800-pound gorilla of the stout world. You can’t say stout without thinking of Guinness. Still, is it the best stout in the world? Not in my book. There are far too many other interesting stouts available...

Creamy and Dreamy Stout

by Bryan_Carey Bryan_Carey is a Top Reviewer on Epinions in Restaurants & Gourmet, Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 10, Apr 20 '00
Pros: Rich and Tasty
Cons: Not for the Novice Beer Drinker
Sierra Nevada Brewery was one of the nations' first microbreweries. It was founded in 1981 by two homebrewers, Ken Grossman and Paul Camusi and it has been one of the most successful of all the early pioneers of craft brewing.

The stout that...

Stout with a Northwest Hop-Infused Twist

by andaryl Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 500, Jul 23 '01
Pros: An enjoyable hoppy version of the style makes this fairly refreshing.
Cons: Some will not be keen on stray from traditional style.
The Sierra Nevada Brewing Company was one of the early contributors to the USA microbrew revolution, having started brewing in 1981. Its growth and reputation have promoted its classification above that of microbrewery although, as Michael Jackson argues...

Don't even say the "G" word

by beerfly , Jun 06 '01
Pros: Bulging with all the things that make a great stout
Cons: Not as easy to find as SN Pale Ale
It was a moment of weakness.

I'm a big fan of drinking local.
I sign my book that way sometimes: "Think global, drink local!" So why, when the perky pretty bartender (ahhh, Stephanie) asked me what I wanted last week did I...

However You Spell It... It's G-R-E-A-T

by wingdman , Nov 03 '00
Pros: wonderful roasted flavor, malt and hop balance
Cons: can't think of any
Before I begin in earnest, I'd like to provide a short spelling lesson for stout-drinking "wannabees". Please don't think I'm being a snob by doing so, it's just that I have this pet (he's a peeve) and he told me to do this.

Blasphemy in Chico

by fuche_bu Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 500, Nov 09 '00
Pros: Another great beer from Chico
Cons: not as creamy as Guinness
Over the years I have developed a strong fondness for stouts. These dark styles of beer are quite satisfying. The first thing you learn when you begin with stouts is Guinness. This ubiquitous beer is available even in beer wastelands.
But...

A fine Stout

by xian_xian , Feb 03 '00
Pros: hearty body full flavor
Cons: will frighten lite beer drinkers into submission
If you like Bud Lite you're not likely to enjot this beer. But, as a friend of mine once said about lite beers - "perhaps I could give you a real beer and a glass of water - mix as you see fit."

this is one of the finer American...

Very good stout beer at a bargain price!

by Danno1977 , Feb 11 '02
Pros: Dark, flavorful, Guinness-like
Cons: Twist-off bottle, not unique
I have only been seriously into stouts for a couple of months - until then, I was mostly a lager guy. Right now, though, I only drink these dark beers, and am eager to try a bunch more.

Today I bought a six-pack of Sierra Nevada Stout. It...

Of the top 3 stouts

by jeffdaro , Jul 31 '02
Pros: Great flavor, light body, unique taste
Cons: Light body, lack of texture
Guiness is of course the epitome of Stouts, but SN has taken the wild northwest hoppiness and combined it with the darkness of a fantastic stout to create Snout, yes a SN stout in a class by itself.

I love the taste of this beer, and I love...

Move Over Guinness, This Is Stout Northwestern Style
by greyling ,Nov 04 '03
Pros: Rich, smooth, slightly hoppy stout
Cons: Hard to find and expensive
Sierra Nevada is one of America's oldest craft/ microbreweries. It's been churning out fine beers since 1980. Their Pale Ale is their flagship beer, but many of their other offerings are equally worthy of note. Such as the Sierra Nevada Stout, which I had the recent pleasure of trying.

This stout pours to a deep black color with a fluffy tan head that lingers for a while. The aroma is redolent of dark malts, coffee, chocolate, burnt sugar and hops. Bitter coffee and chocolate flavors dominate the taste at first. Then the rich roasty malt flavors kick in. This stout finishes with a pronounced lingering hop bite.

Speaking as one who has tried a lot of dark beers, this stout is less bitter than Guinness and has a better blend of flavors.

Like all stouts this beer would go well with any hearty meat dish, and would also match up well with a rich chocolate desert. I enjoyed my glass with grilled lamb chops , boiled new potatoes and buttered spinach.
