Wonderful Designs, Poor Materials

by inphri , Jan 18 '07
Pros: Breast flow technology mimicking mother's breasts, large bottle opening.
Cons: Plastic melted during boiling, milk release difficult to operate, missing measurement, poor customer service.
I am breast-feeding my baby, but I need bottles for the times when I am not available, so that my husband or the care taker can use the bottles with my expressed breast milk. I purchased a few different bottles to try, and I thought this was the best ...

Finally. A bottle he will actually take!

by kymmiesue , Jun 05 '06
Pros: Mimics breastfeeding, easily accepted by baby
Cons: Slightly leaky
Thank you, First Years, for inventing this bottle! I was shopping at a Babies R Us helping my sister register for her baby shower when I came across this bottle. I had never heard of it nor seen anything like it, and figured I may as well give it a ...

I love this product!

by maximom , Apr 11 '07
Pros: Easy to use, mimics breastfeeding, easy to clean, great design
Cons: None at all. This is a wonderful product.
My child is 3 months old, has been breastfed exclusively, and needed to learn how to take a bottle in order to attend daycare when I return to work. I tried Playtex nursers, and Dr. Brown's bottles, but the nipples on both brands of bottles were too ...

Love Breastflow Bottles...

by thefrickle , Nov 17 '08
Pros: bottle is very similar to breast.

gives lots of freedom without nipple confusion
Cons:  harder to clean
cracks that you have to scrub
Why did I buy them? When I got pregnant with my second child I knew immediately that I would want to breast feed, I did not want to go through what I did with my son though! trying to alternate between breast and bottle, never really finding a bottle ...

I stop people in stores and tell them not to buy this!

by pjmeadows , Mar 20 '07
Pros: Good customer service.
Cons: Nipples fuse close after repeated sterilization. Very expensive in comparison to other bottles.
Whenever I am in a store and see someone looking at these bottles, I stop them to tell them not to buy this bottle. We loved the concept of these bottles as we were breastfeeding and supplementing the twins with formula. And the bottles worked ...

Mispackaged Breastflow Nipples

by hpunyon , Sep 06 '08
Pros: Baby adapted well. Baby controls the flow. Hasn't leaked yet.

Cons: The nipple packaging. Unsure about the accuracy oz/cc markers on the 5 oz bottle.
We're brand new to this product (48 hours.) Our Lactation Consultant recommended these bottles/nipples as an alternative to finger/tube feeding during the transition. Our baby was 24 days early and put on formula immediately due to a blood sugar problem. ...

More in--less on--the baby
by deathofrats ,Feb 05 '07
Pros: The cap fits on the bottom of the bottle, so you won't lose it.
Cons: There is an extra piece to wash. Not really a big deal.
Even as a newborn, my baby is a strong sucker, and with standard bottles, she'd suck faster than she could swallow. As a result, she'd end up wearing a lot of milk. With the Breastflow bottle, she barely dribbles and still makes short work of a bottle.

I got my first one as a sample, and while I like it, I initially balked at the price of additional bottles; however, when I consider the lost milk and extra laundry caused by traditional bottles, the cost of the Breastflow bottles doesn't seem so bad.

I'm recommending these bottles to all my soon-to-be-mom friends.

gives loads of gas to baby
by mytweetu ,Apr 26 '07
Pros: nipple imitates human nipple the best
Cons: lot of air bubbles
even though my baby is in the process of taking this bottle better over others(I have tried 5 other brands), she has developed ample gas problem. Unless, the baby correctly latches-on or take the bottle in the first go, which is sometimes hard for a first-timer, a lot of air bubbles develop and are easily visible in outer nipple...that means, during training, the baby is also taking in a lot of air...
maybe the guys @first years can improve on this part too because otherwise, the nipple imitates human nipple the best!

Love the idea...
by tshone ,Dec 01 '09
Pros: Baby has to "work" to let the milk down.
Cons: Outer nipple collapses.
Third child; finally one that breastfeeds well. I was concerned about giving her any bottle and my lactation consultant suggested the breastflow bottles.

The outer nipple is so soft that it collapses while she's sucking. We have to pull the nipple out and let it fill with air to return to its shape; which in turn I feel gives her gas.

After reading the other reviews I am wondering if my steralizer has compromised the strenght of the outer nipple?

What a great idea!!!!
by lister22 ,Sep 18 '06
Pros: So close to the real thing, baby will still nurse and bottle feed.
Cons: I really don't have any.
I received my bottle as a sample in a Motherhood store. At first it looked a little scary to me, but I love it. I have had no leaking problems with mine, it has worked great. I nurse my baby girl and even though she takes a pacifier and still nurses, I wanted something as close to the real thing as I could get. This is it, they have done a great job of replicating the actual breast. I really like how the nipple collapses and give the feel of still being nursed. My friend is having a hard time getting her 6mo old to take a bottle and I am going to suggest this to her. I recommend this bottle to everyone.

Lifesaver!!!!!!!!!!!!
by janieb93 ,Oct 12 '07
Pros: Technology that really works!
Cons: None!
My daughter really likes the real thing, but will take this bottle with no problem. She's 12 weeks now and to get her used to a bottle, we've been using Breast Flow once a day since she was a week old, even though the books said not to introduce a bottle for three-four weeks. Now that I am heading back to work, I can rest easy knowing she'll take this bottle. We tried Dr. Brown's and other brands recently and she wants nothing to do with them, so we're sticking to old faithful. LOVE THIS PRODUCT! I tell all my nursing mom friends about them. Genius!

Love it!
by tessmom ,Oct 08 '07
Pros: The nipple and suction technique.
Cons: Nothing!
I tried at least five bottles before researching and finding this excellent one! I had two days before returning to work and leaving my exclusively breastfed, three month old baby with my mother. She cried with every new nipple but loved this one one the very first use! I am just so relieved to have found it.

Great idea - still needs work
by dseastrom ,Aug 06 '06
Pros: Great idea
Cons: Leaks - release valves do not work well.
It seemed like a good idea. My 6 week old has no nipple confusion, but I thought it might be a good idea anyway - maybe to keep her interested in breastfeeding longer (1st child and I only lasted 2 months). I mistakenly bought the wrong size nipple (med to fast flow) and my daughter was very confused and mad. I am not sure if I change to a slower flow will I be satisfied with the product. It has valves to release the milk back down into the bottle, but not all the milk is released and if you open the bottle, all the milk in the top leaks out and it's very messy. It is a great idea and I hope they keep working to improve it.

Best bottle for breast fed babies
by mypreciouskid ,Mar 07 '07
Pros: The most like breast feeding bottle ever
Cons: Hard to get milk to flow back into the bottle later. No big deal really.
I have suggested this bottle to several breast feeding moms who wanted to feed a bottle of breast milk.

When you watch the baby use this bottle she looks and sounds like she is nursing. The slow double flow system is perfect. The baby must use her tongue thrust and suck just like at the breast. I have not had one baby refuse to nurse after this bottle. They all go back and forth easily.

I recommend only this bottle to all nursing moms!

This is the best bottle ever!!

I am FREE!!!
by nudnikit ,Mar 22 '08
Pros: Mimics the sucking technique used when nursing. Very flexible nipple.
Cons: A little hard to clean. Doesn't change diapers.....
No, not really..op0. My 8 1/2 month young baby would not take a bottle. Plus she has major separation anxiety. Maybe she's afraid the "cow" is going to jump the fence!

It took two tries with the Breastflow bottle. By the second time she was a champ. And went right back to nursing without a problem. I literally did one of those "touch down dances" when she latched on and happily sucked away at the bottle.

I really could not care less about any equipment challenges. Just to take a walk without my little opinionated, opera singing octopus is nice. She also refuses to sit in a stroller, so I carry her in my arms everywhere. Did I mention her cry could shatter glass?

She is not my first child, but definitely the most persistent one out of the bunch!!

Thank you The First Years!! You have given me the opportunity to shave my legs and I thank you for that!! If you are breastfeeding and need to try a bottle please try this. It's less difficult to clean than a breast pump and all of it's attachments.
