Another page turner

by mrsjustin , Mar 07 '00
Pros: Another page turner
Cons: There are a lot of pages
Nelson DeMille does it again! Not that I'm surprised.
The Loin's Game is a lengthy read, but well worth it!
From the first page, he grips you and brings you face to face with suspense and terror.
He manages to develop the scene and...

The Lion's Game Entertains

by slnics , Feb 24 '00
Pros: A quick read, enjoyable characters
Cons: Male oriented, not too complex.
I have to honestly admit that I haven't finished this book yet. I am about half way through it and already I can't seem to put it down. The storyline delivers interesting characters and suspenseful scenarios. I'm not entirely sure why I am writing a...

worth the read

by dove , Mar 20 '00
Pros: John Corey, good plot, hope at the end
Cons: could be seen as prejudiced
LION"S GAME is my first Demille but it will not be my last. I am even looking for a copy of PLUM ISLAND which introduced the hero John Corey. this book is believable and the sardonic asides of the hero lighten what could be a heavy read.

King of the fiction jungle!

by smhikida , May 12 '00
Pros: Plot twists, characterization, dialog.
Cons: Not great literature like Faulkner/Hemingway, but entertaining.
Okay, so the review title is kind of dorky. It caught your attention, right? Don't hold it against this book!

The Lion’s Game is another extremely entertaining book by Nelson DeMille, who has written such best sellers as Plum Island, The...

Wow - and this was written prior to 9/11

by flynnie , Jun 05 '02
Pros: Exciting, fast-moving, eye opening
Cons: Profanity
This is an exciting, fast-moving book. It was written before the unfortunate tragedy of 9/11, yet this book has some eerie similarities. Could not put this book down, it had me hooked from the first page. In fact the very first chapter had me filled with...

Another Demille Winner

by marlas , Feb 06 '00
Pros: Great story line
Cons: It came to an end
Nelson Demille has done it again!!!! Another fast paced, thrilling novel featuring the lead character from Plum Island, Detective John Corey. Demille has managed to combine both humor and suspense to create a book that really delivers. From the first...

Lion Tamer

by jlhenkentx2 , Apr 23 '01
Pros: Action, Suspense, Drama,Reality of events
Cons: Long read
This is a good weekend book to read, it keeps you on your feet, and keeps moving. It is written with precision and with amazing accuracy. It is hard to believe that something like this could actually happen, but while you read the book, it is like it...

Too much for your money

by davidlg , Jan 31 '00
Pros: keeps you reading
Cons: long, implausible, often downright silly
First, I'm a fan -- at least of Demille's best books (e.g., Gold Coast, Charm School). I thought Plum Island weak, and John Corey, smartypants NYPD stud, is not the most persuasive character; he's a caricature waiting for Bruce Willis to play him in the...

The Lion doesn't sleep tonite!

by Eyeroger , Mar 13 '00
Pros: A great suspense novel.
Cons: Obvious opening to a sequel.
From the minute I began this reading, I couldn't sleep till I had finished it. Having been somewhat disappointed after finishing "Plum Island" , I was pleasantly surprise to see in "The Game" that DeMille has returned to the style of...

Another great read by DeMille

by joanmich , Oct 25 '00
Pros: Intriguing story, Fun & funny characters
Cons: too long
Nelson DeMille does it again. John Corey makes his second appearance in this new DeMille thriller, The Lion's Game. DeMille's John Corey is the witty & sarcastic hero. He is an x-NYPD detective now working for the FBI and struggling under the...

Superb read
by bharatcit ,May 23 '06
Pros: Worth one read
Cons: Slightly long I though.
Was a gripping story. A very serious story handled exceptionally well with a light narrative and superb timing of the jokes. I quite liked the whacky sense of humour of the hero detective.

Anybody who believes that the CIA is full of self-admiring, corrupt, incapable pansies will definitely like this book. It takes a NYPD cop to teach the CIA how to do things right.

From his freaked out landing in the US (a plane of dead people landing itself on autopilot), the Lion(our Libyan bad guy) walks into the CIA office, bumps off whoever he can find there, and then leads the rest of the good guys to a merry chase across the US, all the while bumping off all members of the squadron who bombed Libya in 1986 and thus accidentally killed his mommy and siblings. Only our hero manages to keep closely behind him.

For once a terrorist was depicted as an intelligent thinking person. This is the kind of book which can make a superb movie thriller.

Motivated me to go read "Plum Island" which was also an entertaining read. Hope Demille doesnt kill off this humorous detective after marrying him off.
