Denon AVR3802 AV Receiver Review

by advocate46 , Jul 06 '02
Pros: Sound and construction quality. Solid value.
Cons: Large size, very heavy. Small display LEDs.
Introduction
It’s difficult to overstate the importance of the audio-video receiver (AVR) in the home theater system (HTS). Due to all the features, functions, and technical requirements, the selection process can be extremely difficult and time...

Delightful A/V Receiver

by chin_sing , Dec 09 '01
Pros: Clean lines, ample power, quality construction, multi-device learning remote
Cons: Remote could be smaller.
I read many of the reviews before buying this unit and the difficulty of setup was one (and possible the only) apprehension I had. So of course I shared this with the technician at the store, who with a chuckle very obligingly showed me just how simple,...

More than you need, more than I need, but causes incurable fits of "The Grins"

by drdiaboloco , Aug 06 '02
Pros: Incredibly powerful, all the connections you need, and no fluff
Cons: Probably a bit of overkill for most homes (mine included)
I truly am my own worst enemy.

I now have a Denon 3802 receiver occupying the same space that an already stellar 2802 once occupied, and the only reason I traded up was the nagging feeling that "good enough" wasn't "good enough." This unit...

Mixed bag

by artbay , Aug 04 '02
Pros: Great Sound, sturdy construction
Cons: Not user friendly
After shopping around for quite a while looking for a surround system for under a grand, the Denon 3802 came out on top. Compared to other systems I looked at; Yamaha, Sony, Harmon Kardon I thought the Denon had the cleanest sound. On that account I've...

Finally hear DSOM loud and undistorted

by adc-1 , Nov 23 '02
Pros: Great sound
Cons: Remote still has a bug or two
I did a lot of reviewing of surround receivers on the web and at local electronics stores. The other brands I was considering were Yamaha, Onkyo, and Harmon Kardon. I chose the Denon primarily because every review that I read had positive things to say...

It's a Denon!!..Enough said.

by jmarcial , Oct 22 '01
Pros: Excellent sound quality
Cons: Steep learning curve.
The AVR-3802 delivers!

I spent a lot of time researching receivers under the $1000 mark and this one was the winner. Not only it delivers superb sound clearity but also more than enough power to drive a 7.1 surround speaker configuration. ...

Denon AVR 3802

by gverdi1 , Aug 21 '02
Pros: Great sound, ease of installation, ease of use
Cons: Manual needs to be re-written for all to understand.
I have researched and studied most receivers in this class and this one takes the prize for price/features/quality. I use this receiver in my family room and am only running Dolby Digital and DTS 5.1. I chose this 7- channel amp because you can assign...

Denon 3802

by cookeith , Dec 15 '01
Pros: Clean Crisp Sound and Power, Remote Control, a sufficient amount of In/Outputs
Cons: weight- its a bit heavy. Hard to follow Manual.
The Denon 3802 is a 6.1 AVR that has 7.1 amplifiers. (the .1 is the subwoofer) There are 7.1 external inputs on the back of the AVR to upgrade to a future 7.1 decoder. Using 2 rear speakers does make the system sound more rotund, but there is no Left to...

Brilliant (and cheap) super-receiver

by hyvonen , Jan 06 '02
Pros: DTS-ES, powerful, lots of inputs, good remote... love it!
Cons: None
This receiver has all the good. All the way to DTS-ES, the sound decoder can handle almost anything, except DVD-Audio. The system, however, has wideband (up to 100kHz) audio inputs for 'future technologies'.

The sub out, 7+1 channels,...

by grahamwhite , Oct 15 '02
Pros: 110 watts x 7. Durable. Awesome sound.
Cons: Not a receiver for the novice.
I have had this receiver now for about 8 months now and have no complaints. The sound is incredible and the features are up to todays standards. I have tested side by side the Onkyo, Harmon Kardon, and Yahmaha and the Denon just out performed all of ...

DENON AVR3802

by debtfinder , Mar 19 '02
Pros: Very powerful unit
Cons: Too complex to operate
I purchased one these units but had to wait a couple of days for the reciever to arrive at the store. This gave me the time to pull up the instruction manual from the denon website for study. I thought I would be prepared for the worst this way. Well...

I recently purchased the Denon AVR-3802 and i am very pleased. The sound quality is excellent. I have added 2 Sony matching satellite speakers and when switching to the Denon 7.1 surround mode any source (2 channel stereo,5.1 etc) can be produced in 360...
