A spacious, reliable workhorse.

by bosley
Sep 08 '06 - Updated Oct 02 '06

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 4.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: It's spacious, it's comfortable, gets decent gas mileage, is reasonably attractive for a mini van.
Cons: Dim headlights, more road noise than newer cars.
The Bottom Line: I'd recommend this van to anyone who needs a spacious and reliable minivan, with a minimum purchase price.

The first thing that won me over was the area under the hood. This is where all of the fluids are, and it makes fluid maintenance extra easy. To top it off there's an oil reservoir with a little motor and sensor, which automatically adds to the main oil ...

Pros: Handling, cargo and passenger capacity, styling.
Cons: Fuel economy, repair cost
The Bottom Line: Great family transportation

I bought a '95 Previa three years ago thinking that it would be a "stop-gap" car until I bought a new minivan or van. I now have no intention of giving up my bubble-mobile until the thing quits on me and, given that it's a Toyota, that could take a ...

296K and still lovin' our Japanese Bubble!

by beehive1
Feb 07 '06

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 5.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Visibility, reliability, quality, maneuverability, unique bubble shape
Cons: unique bubble shape, air conditioner, engine power, some cheap hardware
The Bottom Line: I would highly recommend this vehicle. This has been an inexpensive vehicle to own and has been very reliable.

We bought our Previa used in the spring of 1995. It had 45K on it then. We now have 296K and it's still going as of February 2006! This has been a very reliable vehicle with only a few problems. Gas mileage has been around 19-20 with little ...

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 5.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: stereo system, Toyota quality, durability, TONS of room, great for tall people, easy maneuverability
Cons: They stopped making it. 4 cylinder engine.
The Bottom Line: BUY THIS VAN!!! Or just keep it if you own one. Can't find anything better on the market, even 12 years later.

I absolutely love this Previa. I just bought it in May. It had 125k original miles. The front differential was replaced at 130K, which the guy at the dealership said was standard on these Previas. I got an awesome deal at the used car lot where I ...

155,000+ miles and still loving it!!

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 5.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: loads of space, highly reliable powertrain, great visibility, decent MPG, distinct styling, Toyota quality!
Cons: spare tire under chassis; problems with moonroof/rear AC; rear-wheel drive
The Bottom Line: If you need great interior space in a solid, reliable vehicle, grab one of these if you don't live in a place with lots of snow and steep hills.

We bought our Previa LE new in 1991 and have loved every minute of driving it. People either loved or hated the styling of this "Easter Egg" vehicle. We are on the "loved it" side, inside and out.

Our main criterion in the purchase was the...

Can't Let Go of the Toyota Previa

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 5.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Comfort, View of Road, Style
Cons: Only average on safety and power.
The Bottom Line: If you can live with only average fuel economy, power and safety... The Previa is a NICE RIDE.

Back in 1995, my wife and I sighted a used '92 Previa on a car lot and got excited. It was a pretty maroon LE with the works. We dickered the salesman down to $16,900 (new ones in town would go then for $35,000).

In terms of comfort, view of...

Best people mover ever

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 5.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Most usable space, still the most stylish and most reliable.
Cons: High replacement parts prices.
The Bottom Line: Best vehicle i've ever owned and no other vehicle i've had or seen even compares. Previa owners love their vans.

Back in 1995 I had a choice.
Buy a brand new Caravan or a 3 year old Previa( about the same price). When I test drove them both it was clear the used Previa was a much better vehicle then a brand new Van. The Previa I have is 4 wheel drive and it...

You could call it "The Shaggin' Wagon!"

by ECHonee22
Nov 14 '00

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 5.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Affordable, Smooth Ride, Fun to Drive, Great for the Family too
Cons: Not the most stylish, Not a "brand name"

Well, being a youngster and all, I just got my license a while back and this is the lovely vehicle my parents decided to let me drive. All my friends tagged it the "Shaggin' Wagon," because there's so much room in the back (shaking my...

One of the best

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 5.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: comfort, size, maintenance record
Cons: drive ability on slick roads

This is probably the best vehicle I have ever owned. It is comfortable, very roomy, gets great gas mileage (for a minivan), holds 7 passengers (more if you disregard seatbelts), and never needs maintenance. The only downside is the high center of...

Very different

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 4.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: good handling, good rear seat arrangement, and you know you're getting a good product because it's a Toyota actually built in Japan
Cons: probably underpowered for most people, driver is high off the ground, only one airbag for driver, and frontal crash protection probably isn't that good either.

I got this vehicle last summer when my aunt upgraded to a Sienna. I need to haul stuff to school, and my Camry Wagon was getting a bit small, so I bought it off her. I have to say, it was a pretty good deal.

To start off, I have to say this...

As we like to call it...The Party wagon

Dec 12 '99

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 4.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: durability
Cons: none

The Toyota previa was one of the best minivans ever put on the market. The packing space in the back is epitomized by the lift up back seats (takes about two minutes). The ride is comfy and luxury as a minivan can be. The two front seats feel like you...

Original owner 1992 Previa LE

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 5.0 Recommended: Yes
Pros: Smooth running, spacious, dependable.
Cons: Hard to think of any.
Having owned my Previa for over 14 years, I have enjoyed this vehicle very much. It has only 141,000 miles and been very reliable. Gas mileage still averages 17 city and 25 highway. Still has the original exhaust system and radiator. The only time I was stranded was when the positive battery cable corroded and broke off. The front struts need replacing, but it still rides nicely. The engine and transmission still purrs as if it was new. The only main item replaced was the starter. I do not have a garage and park outside on the street. It has no rust and the paint and shine still looks new.

1991 Previa Nightmare
by scottrice

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 1.0 Recommended: No
Pros: Love the look, the comfort, the utility.
Cons: If you engine needs work it will be expensive.
We bought a used 1991 Previa in December 2004 with 118K. We drove it for about 10K before we lost compression in one cylinder. We have not been able to find a new and installed engine for less than $3000. We still owe a small amount of money on the van. Had we known how expensive it was to replace this engine we would never have purchased a used van. Love the Previa when it is running but you had better hope you don't blow a cylinder early. We are also having trouble finding honest Toyota mechanics. They all price engines and labor high and try to get us to sell them the van cheap so they can part it out. They are a bunch of vultures. I still believe Toyota makes great cars but this experience has left me frustrated.

190 K MILES WHAT A RIDE
by brmcclin
Mar 09 '04
Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 5.0 Recommended: Yes
Pros: Great in Snow, excellent ride, interior is great.
Cons: Towing up hills.
Have raised 2 kids, hauled boats, built a cottage up north and a new home. It has been a terrific vehicle with very little maintenance needed. Still have the original muffler and tailpipe. Finally breaking down and buying a new AWD Sienna. Figured the previa lasted 12 years might as well try it again. With cost of gas going up it will be better than a SUV with the same storage room. Will let you know in 12 yrs how the Sienna is doing when I am 60.
