Pros: Standard AWD. Good power. Cons: Sparse rear seat room. Only rear seat back (not seat itself) is split. The Bottom Line: A good choice if you need AWD and can't afford an Audi A4. If you don't need AWD, you can probably do better for the price.
This review is on a 1999 Subaru Impreza Outback Sport, auto transmission, which I purchased new. It currently as about 85,000 miles on it. If you ever come up to Vermont, you will notice many many Subarus on the road, including this particular model....

Pros: AWD, RELIABLE, INEXPENSIVE, FUNCTIONAL Cons: might not be sporty enough for some, slightly restrictive option packages
1999 IMPREZA OUTBACK SPORT 5 Speed
I recently test drove this car to compare it to the Audi A4 1.8T and several other Subaru's. On a scale from 1-10, I would give this car a solid 9.
The first thing to note is the difference...

Pros: Scarcity, Sheer Competence Cons: No Compromises, Too harsh
In the UK, Subaru transformed their image from worthy, reliable, 4WD utility car makers to supercar manufacturers almost overnight with the World Rally Championship winning Impreza turbo.
Impreza turbos had been around for a while in 220bhp UK...

Pros: Performance, handling, value for money, reliability Cons: Baulky gearshift, poor fuel consumption, flimsy interior
I live in Britain and have a new Impreza Turbo, model year 1999. This review is really about the performance aspect of the Impreza.
Previously I had a TVR Cerbera, arguably the quickest production car in the world. It was too impractical and...

Pros: AWD, fun to drive, Peppy powertrain, Simple interior Cons: So-so styling, simple interior :)
Imprezza. WOW. AWD, 5 spd, reliability, fun to drive, and inexpensive. Even the base model Imprezza L comes standard with AWD and a i-4 pumping out 142 horsepowere and 149 ft-lbs of torque, enough to make the light weight(around 2800 lbs) 2 door coupe...

Pros: Terrific handling in all types of weather! Cons: A bit on the small side.
I live in a region that experiences snow in the winter and wanted a vehicle that could handle adverse winter driving conditions AND could give me reasonable gas mileage. The 1999 Subaru Impreza wagon that I purchased was the only car on the market that...

Pros: cheap, AWD, performance, ergonmic interior, cormtable Cons: not very common so lack dealers, lacks superoir interoir
The biggest problem for me is where to start. AWD, the engine, the seat, the safetly, the cost are all great. this will include performance, interoir, problems (scatter thoughout), overall stuff and safety
If you have every driving a SUV and felt...

Pros: AWD, handling, and reliability. Cons: Finding parts (even though you don't have to often) and minor interior problems. The Bottom Line: Despite the few minor problems, I would highly recommend this car. I would rather have a dozen bad cup holders than one engine problem.
This is a very good car for a couples, a single person, or a family that doesn't go out together often. The leg room in the back is enough, but it is not ample by any means. If you haul adults or even kids around in the back seats on a regular basis,...

Pros: It's a Subaru Cons: Placement of cupholders, noise at high speeds
I have been a fan of Subaru's since my brother bought a Legacy sedan back in '90. Since then, my mother has bought an Impreza in the mid 90's. I bought my Impreza Outback Sport Wagon (automatic) in Sept.'99 for my birthday.
What I love about...

Pros: Handling, AWD, Fun-To-Drive, everything but wheel bearings Cons: Wheel Bearings. I've lost 11 of them in under 50k miles. The Bottom Line: A fun, genuinely sporty car plagued with a poor rear wheel bearing design its parent company will not own up to.
Intro
I've got mixed feelings with my '99 Subaru Impreza Outback Sport. On one hand, it's a hoot to drive (when it's on the road...more on that later) - It grips the road tenaciously, even in the wet. Its structural rigidity is superb, and...

Pros: All Wheel Drive, Perfect engine and steering Cons: A little bit too noisy
Why did I buy Subaru Impreza Wagon 2.0 RX? In April last year I had a opportunity to change my current car Nissan Almera to a new one. I had plenty of opportunities, but my choice was Subaru. Several features made this very easy for me
- in Estonia...

Pros: AWD, superior handling, decent gas mileage (30 hwy) Cons: Extremely uncomfortable seating. Brake and drive train issues after 70,000 miles The Bottom Line: Great, reliable car, but does not live up to the old Subaru's run forever with no problems mantra.
Great car for the city or to enjoy windy country roads, handles great in all weather conditions. This car loves snow! Not so great for highway or for extended trips over 1.5 hours due to the uncomfortable seats and harsh ride. (I didn't buy this car ...

Pros: Attractive look, reliable, powerful (28.8 hp a ton) Cons: not aerodynamic design, fuel efficiency, bad clutch, poor responce. The Bottom Line: Understand what you are getting. You can be very happy with this car if you buy it for the right reasons with the right expectations.
My dad and I bought this car new, with just a few miles on it. Right now it is at about 83000 and I had one major issue with it. At 26000 I had to replace the manual transmission. For those who don't know 26000 is extremely early for a transmission to ...

Pros: Great handling. Good power to weight ratio. Cons: Road noise, rattles, price. The Bottom Line: If you are young and would love an affordable car with great handling in all weather conditions, then buy this car used. If not, look for something built more reliable.
I just ended my 2 year love-affair with a 1999 Subaru Impreza Outback. This car handles great. You can go fast into a corner, push on the accelerator thru the turn, and come out of the turn with a big smile on your face. All without once squealing the...
