Toyota Sequoia: big trouble for Detroit

by mkaresh mkaresh is a Lead on Epinions in Cars & Motorsports, Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 10
Jan 23 '01 - Updated Aug 02 '05

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 5.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Passenger and cargo room, utility, refinement, very well thought-out
Cons: Slightly underpowered engine, poor fuel economy (duh)
The Bottom Line: If you really need the passenger and cargo room of a full-size SUV, but value refinement, this is the one to get.

For a long time, GM’s Suburban had little direct competition. But when its sales took off in the 㣾s, other companies got into the act. Ford introduced the Expedition and the Excursion, the former a half-size smaller than the Suburban, the ...

Pros: ULEV rating, Decent gas mileage for a large SUV, Comfortable, Reliable
Cons: Rear and side vision is less than desirable. The single CD system is weak.
The Bottom Line: Great MPG, reliability, and comfort at a decent price. The Sequoia is a sure hit for Toyota.

OK, this is my second review on this product and it is a update as I now have 10 thousand miles on the Sequoia. Overall, my wife( whom is the daily driver ) and I really like it for the gas mileage, comfort, size, horsepower, and I have a few ...

Sep 26 '03 - Updated Nov 02 '03

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 5.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Toyota reliability, Space, Comfort, Power, Appointments, Off Road Performance, Value (even at 50K) and Confidence.
Cons: Nothing really ( after 2,000 mi.) We love it
The Bottom Line: We Love it!!! The feeling of confidence, every day.

After my wife owning a 1990 Toyota with 195,000 great miles, we went looking for a new, larger SUV. We looked at the Toyota Sequoia, GMC’s, Chevy’s and Cadi’s. We test drove all and measured most ( as I am kind of a geek ) We even took the C ...

State-of-the-art Toyota Engineering in 2001 Sequoia

by charles Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 100
Feb 10 '01

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 5.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Relatively inexpensive for a full-size SUV
Cons: No good gas mileage; Diminished rear visibility
The Bottom Line: If you care about a reliable full-size SUV with superb touches of luxury, then you will pick the 2001 Toyota Sequoia.

There is no doubt that Toyota Sequoia is an affordable addition to the group comprising RAV4, Land Cruiser, 4Runner, and Highlander. Ever since I read about the Sequoia that has been built on the Tundra platform, I made myself a mental note to...

Toyota Sequoia SR5 4 wheel drive

Purchased a 2001 Sequoia SR5 4x4 over the Labor day weekend last year. Got it from a fleet dealer and financed through Toyota Financial Services. 0.0% financing for 3 years w/ no down payment. Couldn't pass...

Unbeatable Vehicle

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 5.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Excellent Build quality, safety features, handling, ride quality, sound level, power, handling etc etc
Cons: None I can think of
The Bottom Line: a Must ride, easily the best in class.

I had read the prior opinions regarding the Sequoia. In particular I had to laugh at the opinion, which stated that 240HP, was inadequate for a truck of this size. In the same comment the writer goes on to say X has more hp but "35 lbs. less torque". To...

Best SUV in its class.

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 5.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Almost everything
Cons: None that I can think of......
The Bottom Line: If you are looking for a big SUV for a big family, Toyota has come up with a great alternative. This very well may be the best large SUV!

I just purchased an SR5 Toyota Sequoia. I was a bit skeptical about it because this was their first venture into the very competitive large SUV market. I couldn't have been more wrong about this car.
The double wishbone suspension does a...

Nice truck with some minor weaknesses

by luando
Aug 06 '01 - Updated May 26 '03

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 4.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: quiet, comfortable, nice ride, powerful and smooth engine
Cons: gas mileage, weak AC, no heated seats for SR5 with leather, sensitive steering
The Bottom Line: Buy it, if you need room and power but be beware of it's minor quirks before buying.

After testing driving 4 times I decided to buy an SR5 with the options I want. This is a first SUV that I've owned, though I've test driven many other SUVs. I picked this truck because of the cargo/passenger capacity, towing capacity that suits my need...

Transmission worries

by mghdesign
Jan 07 '05

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 3.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Excellent power and comfort, mileage for such a large vehicle is not bad 16.6 mpg.
Cons: Anti-Rollover technology results in brake dust on the front tires, frequent pads replaced.
The Bottom Line: Worry about the transmission.

A story for every Toyota Sequoia owner to read. I leased a 2001 Toyota Sequoia and paid for an extended warranty 6 years or 100,000 miles. At 93,000 miles I took the vehicle to a local dealership service center for a complete inspection. I ...

2001 TOYOTA SEQUOIA

by mybt
Jan 07 '02

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 5.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Cream de la Cream of SUV's.
Cons: There are none
The Bottom Line: If you can afford it, stop looking, you won't be sorry.

I purchased this vehicle in Feb 01. Yes I paid alot of money for this vehicle, but you are buying a TOYOTA. Historically, Toyota's are pricy in any model. Remember the old adage, "You get what you pay for". I love my Sequoia. It handles better than...

Think Twice Before You Blow Your Dough

by sakko
May 09 '02

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 2.0 Recommended: No

Pros: Solid body and powertrain, quiet, power rear window, cool 6 disc changer
Cons: Overpriced, small, cheap plastic feel, tiny gas tank, power locks locked manually, terrible keyless remote
The Bottom Line: If you have enough $$$ to buy this ride, then you have enough upstairs to do it right. Get an Escalade or something! If you want value, look elsewhere!

First off, I own (still do) a Ford Expedition. My wife and I waited for the Sequoia to come out because we heard it was comparable to the Exp. I had some little problems with the Ford while under warranty, and eventually said that I would never but...

2001 Sequoia

by rsrreintges

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 5.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Great truck. Toyota quality throughout
Cons: Gas mileage is low (but not as low as expected) Getting 15.4 city
The Bottom Line: Pricey but what isn't these days. If you're in the market for a full-sized SUV, the Sequoia should be on your short-list. Should prove reliable for many years.

I have owned Toyota vehicles since 1978. I have owned a Celica, 2 Camrys (still have the 1989 sedan and its going strong), a Cressida, and a 4-Runner (traded it in for the Sequoia) and I have always been impressed with the Toyota quality and...

Toyota Sequoia

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 5.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Japanese, SUV, runs smoothly
Cons: Too expensive
The Bottom Line: If you are someone who likes SUV's, the best one out of all of them is the Toyota Sequoia.

The Toyota Sequoia is an excellent car. The nice thing about it is that it is a Japanese car. I just bought one a month ago, and it runs so smooth as if the car isn't even moving. The Sequoia has excellent acceleration for both freeway and streets....

If the style matched the handling, it'd look like a sports car

by Night
Nov 21 '01

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 5.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Impressive acceleration for an SUV, nice handling, and excellent stability.
Cons: Boxy styling, and the wind resistance is very low at high interstate speeds.
The Bottom Line: If you're looking for a large SUV with excellent handling, "on-demand" power, and great braking, then the Toyota Sequoia is for you.

Before I purchased my 2001 Toyota Sequoia, I had a 1999 Chevrolet Suburban. I thought it didn't get any better than that. The Suburban had four-wheel drive, eight seats, and a commanding feel of the road. Everything I needed in an SUV, I had in the...

The Silver Toaster

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 2.0 Recommended: No
Pros: Car-like ride, fit and finish. Will probably last forever
Cons: High-speed handling, dent-succeptible exterior, rear visability, gas mileage, high maintenance costs
30k mile update

The vehicle is still unstable at speeds over 70mph, even with a new set of Michelins and a front end alignment.

So far, the ABS braking computer, the front brake assemblies and the rear window motor have been replaced under warranty, or as the dealer calls them "Campaigns" (which is a fancy word for recalls when the warranty has expired). Check to make sure that your potential rig has had these replaced. All of these are big buck items! (Well, actually about $2,000 ea...)

Low-speed passes continue to be unnerving. Almost as if the vehicle is running too lean and wants to stall...

Gas mileage still averages 15mpg. The third row of seats spend a lot of time out of the vehicle and on the garage floor.
