Pros: Held up well in a high speed collision Cons: A pain to get it fixed The Bottom Line: Be very careful if you plan on buying this car.
I bought by 2002 Kia Sportage in 2001 because of it's awesome price, advertised warranty, and for how cool it looked. Now in January 2004 have approx. 85,000.00 kms on it and I have found that owning my Sportage has been a very painful relationship. ...

Pros: Looks great, canvas top, low price for an SUV with good options Cons: Small glovebox, doesn't drive extremely smooth, jerks forward, tends to fall apart... The Bottom Line: If you want a quality engine with quality interior, don't get this car. If you're looking to have fun at a low price, then this is the car for you!
I bought this car new in July of 2002. It was initially intrigued by it's price and, of course, canvas top. When I test drove the car, I really liked being up high and found that it drove well. So after a lot of thought, I went with it. Currently, ...

Pros: Nice view, good creature comfort, excellent truck ability. Great Warrantee. Cons: Small glovebox, bad placement for front cupholder. The Bottom Line: With the great warrantee, real offroad ability, a low sticker price, and good comfort this little truck comes highly recommended by me.
I've been shopping for a small truck for a while, and when the new baby was born I finally crumpled and went to get one. I'd already researched them, and had decided upon the Sportage due to price, dealer availability, rebate deals, and reviews that...

Pros: Low price for SUV, not bad looking either. Cons: Noisy alternator, reduced power with AC, power window problems, lots of road noise. The Bottom Line: DON'T BUY A KIA
I have owned several new cars and the KIA is the worst one yet. It is a real piece of junk. Nothing but problems inside, outside and under the hood. It's been back in the shop 4 times in the past year and I'm sure it will be back again soon! Problems...

Pros: Relatively inexpensive; decent gas mileage; 10 year limited warranty; 5 year roadside assistance; CUTE vehicle. Cons: Small glove compartment. The Bottom Line: The price is right, the warranty is super, and it's CUTE.
So I don't know anything about cars. That's okay. I know what I like. And I like the 2002 Kia Sportage. No--wait--I love it. The love affair started a few weeks ago when I decided I wanted a 4 wheel drive SUV. I also knew I didn't have much money. So I...

Pros: Cheap to buy, fairly good on gas, fun to drive. Cons: Shoddy workmanship, got to the point where we didn't trust it. The Bottom Line: This has soured us going back to KIA. No matter what they do to improve their vehicles, we'll never buy or recommend one to anyone.
From about the six-month mark on wards, this vehicle was nothing but trouble. Sure, the warranty and price are good. Price is cheap because the vehicle is cheaply made, warranty is good because you NEED it!! In the first six months (we bought it new), ...

Pros: Great price, good interior space and cargo room, good gas mileage Cons: Nothing specific The Bottom Line: Definitely a great buy for the price. No point spending thousands upon thousands of dollars for high-end brand name SUVs. Get a Kia. Your bank account will thank you.
I had been driving my '96 Cavalier for some time, and had been looking to get back into the Truck/SUV world for family reasons. I was eyeing the Kia Sportage for a while as a good first step in the non-car direction. Found a local dealer having a sale...

Pros: APPEARANCE Cons: MOTOR NOISE, DEPRECIATION PIT FALL The Bottom Line: DO NOT PURCHASE ANY KIA. KIA DOES NOT STAND BEHIND ANY MECHANICAL OR WORKMANSHIP PROBLEM AND THE DEPRECIATION OF THESE VEHICLES ARE A DISGRACE.

Pros: The Sportage is a cute and small suv. Cons: Engine has no pick up. seats are uncomfortable.rough ride. speakers are bad.lousy brakes. The Bottom Line: I purchased this vehicle for use of the 4x4 in winter, and found that the 4x4 never ever worked in the first place!
I purchased a 2000 4x4 Kia Sportage, a year and a half later, in the Michigan snow I was stuck, as I discovered my front wheels were not turning, after having it toed out of my front yard, I contacted kia Customer Service who said that it was a...

2002 Sportage - Great Basic Transportation

Pros: Price and cabin space. Cons: Loud engine.
I bought my 4 door in May of 2004. It was a new leftover from 2002 so I stole it from the dealer. It is now Jan. 2006 and all I can say is for the 10k I paid, it has been great. I took it on two trips to VA the first couple of months I owned it, several trips from New Haven, CT to Yankee stadium last summer and I have no complaints. My nephew is over 6' and he sat in the rear seat to VA and not once complained. I took him on an hour trip in my Mustang convertible and all he did the entire time was whine about his legs being cramped. I am used to a sporty car (I have a Mustang) and replaced my Capri convertible with the Sportage, I have found the Sportage to handle quite well (I was pleasantly surprised). I plan to drive this car for a long time.

Pros: Runs well for awhile... Cons: Limited warranty and limited life...
Decent vehicle for the price... but read your 100K/10yr warranty very carefully. Cosmetics fall apart easily, but only covered up to 12K. Everyone I know who has owned one says it literally starts falling apart at 65K - I'm selling at 60K!
