Pros: Full-featured, expandable, versatile, powerful, dependable, east to use, a real life-saver. Cons: Won't sync with Mac. Screen hard to read in direct sunlight. A mite pricey.
Without a doubt, the HP Jornada 548 provides the most versatile bang for the buck of any PDA I've seen!
I have been searching for three years (and monitoring for many more), waiting for a PDA that had all of my minimal...
Pros: 32 MB of space, color display, free keyboard offer, MP3s, games, Mpeg (movies), very popular Cons: $450 (worth it)
This is a great PDA! It offers a wise variety of features. The first is the amazing 32 MB of space. That's 4 times as much as the largest Palm's memory! It gets better. The 548 offers a brilliant color display. Also...the price is not $600. It's...
Pros: A handy little mini-computer in my pocket. Cons: Little pricey (but worth it) Could use some more fun accessories
The Hp Jornada is not for everyone. It is for those that must have it all, and if you don't need it all, the Jornada is not for you. I always thought that PDA's were no more than expensive little tip calculators like on that one Seinfeld episode. But I...
Pros: Color screen, compact flash slot, works great with Targus Stoaway keyboard Cons: Big and Heavy. Can't upgrade to Pocket PC 2002
I bought my 548 about 2 years ago when it was not the in thing to spend more than $500 for a Pocket PC. Well, I did...and for the most part, I've been really pleased with it. I sync it with my outlook at work and find myself pretty lost if I don't have...
Pros: Nice screen resolution, large amount of memory Cons: Hard to buy software for
The HP Jornada 548 is a very nice addition to the immense variety of PDA's on the market today. Though it may be a little expensive compared to the average handhelds it comes with a lot of amenities. The 16-bit screen gives lively and vivid images, and...
Pros: Improved OS, simple navigation, useful software, expandable Cons: price tag, some crashes, syncing with Money 2000 does not work
I'll be honest - I don't like Microsoft. I've hated all previous CE devices, and was very skeptical of the "new and improved" Pocket PC OS. However, after taking the Jornada for a test drive, I had a change of heart. Finally, a PDA that can...
Pros: Handsome, compact design, Superb color screen, Ships with 32 MB RAM, Large application suite, Easy setup and intuitive interface... Cons: No support for synchronization of non-Microsoft e-mail and scheduling applications
If you are looking for a high-powered Pocket PC that contains everything you need to organize your life and entertain you in your free time, the HP Jornada 548 Color Pocket PC is the machine to have. You can check your e-mail, review Word and Excel...
Pros: Powerful, Color, Rugged, Reliability Cons: Syncing with Groupwise
This is it buy it! If you are reading this you are doing your homework and comparing every aspect of PDA's. I wanted: Color, speed, e-mail, organizer(s), memory, spreadsheets, WP, voice recording, and reliability. I compared this machine to the Palm Vx...
Pros: Omnisky Wireless Modem, Wireless Surfing! Cons: A little slow but nothing that stops you working on the road!
Well I finally decided to purchase a Pocket PC and hang up my Palm Vx. It was a tough decision because the Palm is a great tool with many supported programs (freeware etc) out on the market. Want to know why?
Pros: Very durable case and the features to impress your friends. Cons: Nothing really!
Of course this is not the most powerful PDA out there but the price is unbeatable for the value. Now some people may be wondering what the difference between the 547 and 548 is. The ONLY difference is the 548 includes a cradle and the 547 does not....
Pros: Solid product, good balance of functionality/SW/performance Cons: Price
;-) Please see "4 year" updates at end, thank you!!! I have owned the HP Jornada for 2 years, following is a beat the heck out of it abuse road report for this unit: I am a software project manager and spend my life jumping in & out of ...
Pros: Compact, Screen Cover, Color, plenty of Mem. Cons: None as of yet
The HP Jornada 548 is basically like a mini desktop with the amount of speed and memory it gives you. It runs off of a Windows operating system which allows you to use word, excel and other great Microsoft programs.
Pros: High resolution, vibrant colors, good software. Cons: The product is slightly costly.
Review: HP Jornada 548
I was so impressed after purchasing my Palm m100, that I decided to spring for a higher end model of a PDA. This was part of my initial dip into the PDA world, and I was just getting used to carrying my m100...
Pros: Windows Ce, graphics, Excel, Word Cons: Price
I purchased an HP Jornada 548 a few months ago. This purchase stemmed from my need to have a PDA. I first purchased the Palm IIIxe but wanted to jazz up my daily work a bit with color so I went back to the store to purchase a Palm IIIce. I had been...
Pros: Great feel, nice speed, well built. Cons: Expensive if you don't need it.
I bought the jornada 548 about a month ago and I have no complaints to this point. If you need a pda for simple tasks such as to do list and contacts I would go for a cheaper one like the palm III series. If you are like me and have kids and use a...
Pros: Awesome handheld computer Cons: Windows CE info is lacking
I searched all the opinions about PDAs (my first). The Compaq Ipaq seemed to call out as the best and the computer whizzes at work have them. But it is obvious that there are problems with the Ipaqs. You either get a good one, and you love it, or...
Pros: Great styling, performance, expandability, convenience Cons: None
Hewlett Packard's Jornada 540 series is worth checking out. I have the jornada 548 model which has a 32 MB hard drive. This enables the user to have an almost unlimited array of applications loaded on the device. I also have an Compact Flash memory card...
Pros: Good Infrared conectivity, Interface, Application selection Cons: Display is poor outdoors, Flash Card cover, stylus holder
I wanted a portable so that I don't have to lug my notebook computer all the time and be able to sync my e-mails, word documents, spread sheets and notes into one, be able to check email, send updated files on the go. I also wanted an infrared port to...
Pros: better construction than iPaq Cons: slower processor
I've bought the HP journada and in my opinion it's the best choice for anyone considering a pocketPC OS. The reason being is that it's built very well. Initially, I wanted the iPaq because it has the fastest processor and looks better.
One of my first reviews for Epinions was titled "Five Reasons Why You Need A Palm V". That was in August of 2000. In a sense you can say I outgrew the Palm OS and was ready for something more that the Palm line of products just couldn't deliver. Even...
Did HP get it right this time? I've been using handhelds/palmtops/PDAs since the HP 95LX, and have owned all versions of Windows CE devices, as well as an Apple Newton (remember those?). Other than the Newton and a Philips Nino, all my handhelds have...
Pros: Windows Compatibility - Word, Excel
Color Screen Cons: Expensive, you'll probably need several accessories and the screen is not readable in sunlight.
I've long enjoyed gadgets but had resisted the PDA craze until this year. I could never see that the computerized "day-timer" would save me any time and preferred to stick with my paper pocket calendar. Then, I went to work for a major corporation....
Pros: 32 MG Memory, MP3 and WMA playback capability, USB Connectivity, Windows CE Cons: Screen brightness, touch pen storage, expensive modem
I recently had the chance to use the HP Jornada 548 for period of time. Overall, I must say I found the Jornada to be well above par in most aspects of what you would look for in a PDA. The Windows CE OS is clearly superior to the Palm OS, in my...
Pros: Internet capable, Pocket PC operating system. Memory Cons: Size, Clumsy Menu system
There is no such thing as a perfect PDA. You can get more than the HP Jordana 548, but you’ll spend a whole lot more for the IPAQ. You can get a thinner, more elegant package for the same price with Palm M505, but you can’t get wireless internet access...
Pros: Software Compatibility, Large memory Capacity, and Upgradability, Compact Size Cons: Price and screen visibility when outside
The HP Jornada 548 was my first venture into the PDA market. I did a lot of research into the various PDA options and finally decided to go with the Windows OS versus the Palm operating system. I came to the conclusion that the two best pocket PC’s on...
The PDA war is on and Palm is losing big time. Why at this point would anyone not go with Windows CE. The ease of syncing with Outlook is only part of it. The fact that you can read emails AND attachments is simply awesome. You'll never go back once you...
Pros: ON THE 568: EVERYTHING IS IMPROVED Cons: AN EXPENSIVE PDA!!!!
UPDATED REVIEW!
As much as I liked the Jornada 548, it's drawbacks were significant when compared to the competition. It was heavy, sluggish, & clunky. I still liked it because it was reliable and had potential to replace my laptop. Well, my...
Pros: Color, Great Applications, Sound, Flip up cover Cons: Slow, No auto brightness adjustment
I have been a loyal Palm user for about 5 years. My most recent being a Palm V, which I have not been satisfied with and decided to take a look at the line of Pocket PCs. After playing with various Pocket PC machines, I decided to go with an HP Jornada...
As a technology oriented educator, I found that I was falling behind on keeping my gradebook up to date and keeping my clubs and after school events dates organized. I would write things down on little scraps of paper, post-it notes, and anything else I...
Pros: Slim, Color Screen, Added Memory Cons: Price
Should you be looking at either the HP Jornada 545 or 548 and be torn between the two, don’t hesitate to spend the extra for Jornada 548. With 32 MB of RAM, the 548 has twice the memory of the 545. The 32MB are more suited to the variety of functions...
I purchased this PDA after total frustration with my Palm Vx. I needed to easily access excel, word files while mobile and be able to port them easily from my notebook.
The colour display is awesome.Even price list docs can read better in colour,...
Pros: Great screen, voice memos, sturdy, built in CF slot Cons: sync problems
The HP Jornada 548 is really a great step up from a Palm. I had a Palm III for 2 years and really depended on it for schedule and contacts. I wanted something that would give me remote access to email and the web when I traveled on short trips and didn't...
Pros: Professional looking, hard metal protective lid Cons: Passive matrix screen, slowest processor of the three Pocket PC's offered currently
I purchased the HP Journada 548 because of a sudden interest in the relatively new Pocket PC market. Here are some pros and cons I have discovered while using the HP Journada 548.
First the bad news:
The Cons of the Journada 548
1....
Pros: Windows CE, color, Microsoft apps Cons: the cradle
This is the only PDA I have owned and I love it. What makes it better is that I won it, so I paid nothing for the top of the line Pocket PC. I find that I am much better at scheduling and maintaining my day with the Jornada than I was without it.
...
Pros: Nice metal casing making it very portable. Cons: Screen washes out in sunlight and minor design flaws.
This is my review of the Jornada 548 after using it for several months before upgrading yet again. This is a very good attempt by HP to break into the PocketPC market. It has several ice features not the least of which is a metal case. But, it was...
As a college student entering his Junior year, I've found I have a problem keeping my notes/homework organized, especially when I'm busy - which is when I need them most. My solution to this problem was the Jornada 548.
I'd like to note here that...
Pros: best by design. great sound lots of base. ms word and excell included. Cons: lacks a pen holder once the cover is removed. battery life aprox 8hrs.
Shopping around for a pocket computer? Hp has always been good at making quality products. Sometime expensive though but theirs to other brand name. They fairly consistent. What usually gets to me is that most store try to sell product because of their...
Pros: - In expensive
- Well designed and built
- Wide range of available software Cons: - Not the newest OS
- Screen hard to read outdoors
I received an HP Jornada 548 as a replacement for my wife's defective 525. (Mistake on the part of HP or serendipity?) Since she is getting a Treo 90 for Christmas and never really used the 525 anyway, the 548 has fallen to me.
Pros: Loaded with features, Plays MP3s Cons: A bit hefty, and more expensive than the Palm
HP's Jornada 548, one of Microsoft Windows CE PocketPC models released this year, is a workhorse that boasts a 133 Mhz processor and 32 MB of ram, in addition to a beautiful color active-matrix display. It's a powerful beast of a PocketPC, and does a...
Pros: Lots of applications, almost like a laptop computer Cons: Doesn't synchronize with Outlook Express, or Quicken
I bought the HP Jornada with Windows CE because I needed something to synchronize with what I use at work, for example: Excel and Outlook. I also didn't want to go the expense of buying a full laptop computer, and this seemed to be just as good. For...
Pros: OMNISKY WIRELESS MODEM, WIRELESS SURFING!!! Cons: SLOW processor, screen hard to see outdoors
I purchased the HP545 to replace my Palm V. It was a tough choice, after owning a Palm Professional (1mb) and than the Palm V (2mb). I was liked the Palms a lot, but the HP Jornada touted features the Palm did not have
Some features that the HP...
Pros: Color LCD
Ease of use
Sturdy metal case Cons: weight
I absolutely love my HP Jornada 548. The 548 is a little bit older model, however the price simply cant be beat. I purchased mine used on ebay for 89.99 with "Buy it Now." The 548 features a all metal case with a plastic flip cover. It is shipped with...
By now, everybody knows that screens scratch, and that you need some kind of screen protector. This was news to me, however, and HP didn't warn me. Less than six months using the machine with ONLY their supplied stylus, the area where most of the writing...
Pros: Style, 32MB, HP Task Switcher, MP3, CompactFlash expandability Cons: Screen, Usability of the OS, Price, Quirky sync behavior, Excessive for normal users, Non-removable battery
For the longest time, I tried to stay away from the whole Palm/Handheld PC trend, simply because I never had a need for one: I don't work at a job where I have appointments and meetings daily, I don't have that many business contacts to keep track of,...
First impressions last the longest. Within 10 seconds I knew I wouldn't be keeping the 548.
Thats how long it took me to flip open the protective cover, and find that the stylus is designed for access by RIGHT hand Only. As a "southpaw"...
Pros: Getting used to a business tool of the future. Cons: Stability and reliability.
I have always tried to be an early adopter. Years back, I got an Apple Newton (yeah, laugh). Then I got HP's 620LX, their first Pocketwindows platform, and used it extensively for business trips, doing email and even presentations. I actually liked that...
Pros: Color screen, It's not a Palm! Very tightly integrated with Windows Cons: It's HP! Dull screen, power button on the face of the device
I signed a service agreement with a certain telecommunications company and received 2 Palm V's as a promotional item. Needless to say those pieces of crap went back to the store before we even opened them. I was trying to get my hands on the Compaq Ipaq...
Pros: memory, casing, mp3s, word, syncing Cons: extreeeeeemly heavy
first of all i am going to say that i originally got a handspring visor. but i returned and i purchased a jornada 548 for the overwheming price of 500 dollars now looking back i should have saved my money and got a laptop. my fist problem with the...
Pros: Small, memory Cons: little color, freezes, small screen
I bought a HP Jornada 548 in February and found it did not compare to my Casio EM-500, It has a smaller screen and only has a little over 4,000 colors. The software installed was just your basic Microsoft Word and Excel and some games. The rest you can...
Pros: Rugged Metal Housing, Comes with Screen Cover Cons: Slow, Clunky, Poor Value, No directional pad
The Jornada 548 is not the most aesthetically pleasing pocket pc. Nor does it have the brains do back it up. Are there any upsides to the Jornada? Just 2. It comes with a screen cover and is housed in rugged metal casing. It is powered by a 133 MHz...
Encountered a difficult time installing... by war900_dt3000 ,Apr 25 '02
Encountered a difficult time installing "synch" software. Especially when connected to Laptop & Desktop through the USB craddle. Finally got everything to work when I switched to the serial cable connector. Aside from the initial installation, its a excellent PDA.
I purchased mine used and it worked fabulously for several months. Then it stopped syncing with my PC and at that point it became virtually impractical to use. However, it does sync to my laptop. I'm glad I got it for a cheap price because now I use it mostly as an mp3 player w/ my flash cards, as opposed to a pda.

Bought as a "leftover", good price/value. character recog takes practice/experimentation-instruction skimpy.Features otherwise easy to use. After 6 mos, only synched once-trying 2 desktops/ 1 loptop. I backup on memory card. Can't see in daylight on "bright" so little use for GPS roadmaps.
I won the Jornada 548 at a trade show and liked it until I found out I could not upgrade it to the latest OS. I sent HP a note asking them and they said I needed to buy a new 560 series to get the Pocket PC 2002 OS. This stinks and I'm glad I did not have to pay for this out of my own pockect. I strongly recommend you do not buy an HP because of this, unless you want to buy mine!
My Husband bought this model Jornada for me 1 1/2 years ago as a gift because we both know and appreciate HP products. It worked great the first month I had it and ever since I can NEVER unplug it from a power source without receiving a low battery warning! Despite trying to contact HP several times on this issue after following the manual, etc. it is to no avail & has been a lemon ever since the first month of ownership. It is virtually unused. I am afraid to use it and only leave it plugged in to a power source. Three times I have unplugged it, turned it on to enter one to two appointments (which takes two to three minutes), and when I turn it back off, and plug it back into the outlet, the red light at the top of the Jornada turns back on. It is definitely NOT WORTH the greater than five hundred dollars my husband invested in it! HP has not replaced it despite asking them to. His Compaq iPac works great, so maybe now that both companies have joined they can improve the Jornada!
Hard Krome Slash-Cut Staggered Duals Exhaust System Visually stunning in looks and performance; a combination of classic beauty and cutting edge. Doublewall technology. Feature large 2.5n++ diameter dou...
