Pros: Compass feature, more-or-less adequate sensitivity for normal driving. Nice-looking unit, multifunctional. Cons: Fiddly controls require help from manual. Ka-band sensitivity, long-term durability suspect.
I picked up a DE-1765 in a pawn shop in 2004 for about $40. I was intrigued by the shape and the compass feature. Radar detection is passable, similar to other Whistlers of 2002-3 vintage. I have used it almost exclusively in the city, preferring ...
Pros: great features, love the digital compass Cons: unable to beat out detector-detector
I loved the compass and the design of this detector, unfortunetly it was taken away from me once I crossed the border into Canada. The item was on sale, so I didn't lose out on that much money but the ticket was almost triple the price, so be aware once...
Well, I had been using an older uniden unit. Got tired of the occassional false calls all night long, so stopped at Walmart and found this. Figured that it would be worth it even if only the compass worked.. I installed it and in an hour of traveling...
Pros: Compass, Forward placed buttons Cons: Average detection
The Whistler Group has and is introducing varies detectors to the many consumers on the market. They compete with Uniden and Cobra, and lower budget Escort, and Beltronics detectors. Whistler has provider middle class and below detectors since the 90s,...
Pros: features and design Cons: text display hard to see in bright sunlight
I've only owned this detector a few weeks but am fairly impressed with it. I've used a Uniden LRD 2000 for 7 years and thought it was time for an update. My old Uniden saved me many times although it would false a lot. My new 1765 falses a fraction of...
I didn' give this unit... by steve_dt3003 ,Mar 20 '03
I didn' give this unit a high score because I got a ticket while using the detector. The cop in a little bitty town laughed when I asked him how he clocked me without it going off. He said he used a laser gun. He also had a regular radar(Ka) band, but he was not using it at the time. He offered to test the detector for me. It worked fine on Ka, but it did not go off with laser. Even at 50 feet pointing straight at it. It often goes off when I am doing country driving and there is nothing around. It never shuts off in the city, picking up every little thing. The compass is hard to keep calibrated also, it helped sell me on the unt because I do alot of driving, about 1500 to 2000 miles a month. It has caught a few speed traps but not many. It's better than nothing but I would never recomend this particular unit to anyone!
