Pros: Clear mids and highs with deep, rich bass Cons: Somewhat expensive
Earlier this year, when my beloved 1989 Toyota Corolla died, I ended up getting another Corolla...only this one is a 1999. Though I had the first Corolla for about 4 1/2 years and I always wanted a better stereo system, I simply couldn't justify...

These are great 6.5" speakers, a huge improvement from the paper cone cost-cutting garbage that comes stock in most cars. The high end in these speakers is impressive, though I imagine a component set would've been a better choice for absolute...

Great 6 1/2 speaker to pick up used by csprague ,Dec 29 '03
Pros: Good, reliable, good price used Cons: none
These speakers are pretty awesome. They retailed around $150 new, placing them on the upper mid end of the market. Of course they don't make them anymore (the dx series anyway), but you can find them on eBay for $50 or so used.
If you're a real audio freak you will probably have component sets in the front but you could still pick up a pair of these for filler in the back. Now myself, I am too cheap to get a component set (holy $$$ batman). Now I could go down to a stereo shop and get some OK sounding speakers on my budget, or do what I did, put two sets of these into my Civic for $100. It sounds pretty good along with my old high-end Panasonic head unit (that retailed for $600 but I got for $150 on eBay, can you see a pattern here). I will probably amplify them when I find the time to design an amp rack (and get a used amp off you know where). The Moral of the Story is that you should never go to a stereo shop and instead read Epinions and shop eBay. The End.
