Why start with this receiver

by sentra , Jan 02 '00
Pros: made by sony
Cons: needs digital inputs
Wow to start off this is neat I am the first to express my Opinion on this product. I bought this receiver for my bro on Christmas this year and he is really enjoying it, even though it is a receiver with just the basics it is doing the job pretty well....

You Don't Get What You Don't Pay For

by the_plumber , Jan 22 '00
Pros: good FM tuning with direct frequency entry
Cons: loud hissing sound in the speaker output stage
Recently I decided to upgrade my office music system to be able to
listen to FM broadcasts in addition to CD's. A survey of local
consumer electronics vendors yielded only 3 possibilities for a basic
2-channel stereo receiver. Based on...

Best Sony Receiver under $2000.00 US

by kiandnora , Apr 10 '00
Pros: Simply the BEST sub $2000.00 unit one can buy!
Cons: The only thing I can really pick on is the inability to key in name of different components for your setup. Other than that, there is NONE!!!
I was in the market for a "Hi-End" receiver that will definitely be around for a while. I've checked several models out. They include:

- Onkyo TX-DS777 - Yamaha HTR-5150

- Pioneer VSX-D908S - Yamaha...

You've got $1200 to blow? Well, here's your new receiver.

by nbb1 , Apr 11 '00
Pros: The SOUND.
Cons: The remote could be friendlier.
What can I say about this heavy duty (~60 lbs.) piece equipment other than its a receiver that I would recommend to anyone? Actually quite a bit otherwise I wouldn't be here.

Starting from the beginning, I thought it was time after 7 years...

Is there anyhting it can;t do ?

by wolfman224 , Apr 22 '00
Pros: Tons of features, sound quality
Cons: almost too many features
the 777 is huge, there I said it, that is it's only drawback. I had to move things out of my hifi cabinet to make it fit. It weighs a ton too.

That over and done with, wow, there are so many connections as to dazzle even the most technical...

A Great Receiver

by jclowers , May 13 '00
Pros: Anything will connect to this
Cons: Remote timer is only 10sec, no RF option
First off, I would have to admit that I am a bit of a Sony bigot, but that doesn't color the fact that this is one great receiver.

I was able to pick it up for about 1,200, I won't really go into the details of the receiver, the other reviews...

by valjean11 , Jun 05 '00
Pros: More features than you will know what to do with. Easy to use.
Cons: $1500.00
Sony has certainly done it again. The STRDA777ES receiver is one of the greatest stereo systems I have ever seen. With 120 watts x 5 channels, this baby packs 580 watts of total system power.

When you take this receiver out of the...

Good Complete basic Stereo Receiver

by YODA_6 , Jun 20 '00
Pros: Good Sony Quality, 100 watts of power, inexpensive
Cons: limited functions for big systems
I recently purchased this receiver from a technology catalog called Crutchfield (which I would recommened to anyone) I was rather excited when it came a few days later via UPS. This was the begining step to my stereo system that I'm slowly putting...

A Good Sony

by simplemoney Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 1000, Jun 27 '00
Pros: Great Remote Control
Cons: Poor Slew Rate
I wanted to buy seperate components (amp, tuner, pre-amp), but with a budget of just under $1,000 I turned my attention toward receivers. I read some great reviews of the Sony STR-DA777ES and decided to test drive it against the Nakamichi AV-10, Denon...

Sony Does it Again

by wemisstootsy , Oct 29 '00
Pros: very easy to use
Cons: can't think of any
If you're looking for exceptional sound quality, then you should pick yourself up a Sony receiver. It is easy to install and you can hook almost as many things as you want up to it. There are five different hookups, all of which take audio/video...

Lack of features, ease of use.

by g2kdk , Dec 13 '00
Pros: Ease-of-use
Cons: Extremely limited on features.
Unlike many Sony products, this is one which everyone can understand just by the words printed on the front of the receiver itself. No need for a manual really.

This receiver is surprisingly popular these days (considering it's lack of...

perfect receiver for me

by geoffreysnow , Dec 16 '00
Pros: price
Cons: what cons?
I mostly listen to headphones mainly because I want to keep my music to myself and not disturb other people. My old mini system was getting old and I needed something new.
I had bought other Sony products that were reliable and when I saw this in...

This receiver rocks!!!

by houstontexas , Mar 19 '01
Pros: Features, Optical inputs, DD5.1 and DTS, two-way LCD remote
Cons: Price, remote
I've had this receiver for about a year. I think Sony quality has dropped a little in the past few years, but haven't had any quality problems with this unit. However, I bought a Sony 300-disc changer to integrate with the two-way remote, only to...
