Pros: Rewards Program Cons: Their business practices will make you want to leave them. Accepted very few places.
I've been a Discover Card customer twice in my life. The first time was for two years in the late 90s then again for the past two years. I canceled my account the first time because I was dissatisfied with how I felt I was being treated as a ...

Pros: nothing I can think of Cons: They operate like it's the mid 1700's.
I opened a CD and sent the money to Discover via electronic transfer. Now one year later I'm closing the CD. Can they electronic transfer the money back to me? No. What? No - it's 2008 people! So they have ...

WORST EVER, MOST ANNOYING COMPANY TO DO BUSINESS WITH. JUST NOT WORTH IT!
by rebeccataylor ,Nov 04 '03
Pros: Ok, the card fits in your wallet Cons: Too many to list, but mostly they just are too much in your face.
I have had many cards in my 30 years of business. This company is the most annoying organization ever. The interest rates are high and the pressure is relentless. This company will hound you for life insurance, and any kind of sales gimmick you can think of...don't ever be 10 minutes late on a $10. payment or you will get 2 calls a day until they receive it and possibly after that.
Not worth it. These people are not consumer friendly and waste way too much paper in my mail box.

Good Card
by opet98 ,Nov 20 '03
Pros: Low Fees (compare to all my cards), nice cards Cons: it'll be better with photocard
Discover has been good to me for the past two years, in fact they are th first one that give me credit card with no security deposit or whatsoever. Untill now they have been good to me, they have the lowest FEES from all 5 of my cards, and they give me the highest credit limit from all of my cards. i just wish they have a "photocard" like chase manhattan or BOFA. i havent been calling customer service, so i dont know how they're customer service is. well think of it this way if i havent been calling them, thats mean i never had any problem.:)

Discover Card
by nytsean ,Mar 20 '06
Pros: Customer service representatives were pleasant
Cons: Hidden fees,
Very high interest rate
I thought that I liked my Discover Card.
I received a call from a customer service representative telling me that I was such a good card holder that they would lower my interest rate if I wanted, thinking that they were doing me a favor I said sure. What the rep didn't tell me was that there was a fee for changing my rate. As to the website, it looks professional but lacks information pertinent to the user. Example: I wanted to make sure that they lowered my interest rate but could not find any information as to what the current rate was. I ultimately had to email someone twice to get the answer to my question. As it turns out, they didn't change my rate but charged me anyway. About a month later I found that they change the interest rate again to an even higher rate then before the initial change (I paid for that interest rate change too). So perhaps their slogan is true, "The Discover Card, it pays (them) to discover."

Cant UnDiscover
by balascak ,Mar 06 '05
Pros: Good alternative to Visa Cons: Hard to cancel, high interest rate, mean reps.
Okay, I am your typical pay the balance guy, if i carry a balance it for a month or two, its rare. Well i havent used discover in about 2 yrs. So i decided to cancel. The rep was the most unprofessional person i spoke to in years. I kept saying i want to cancel. then he would say, "what if i gave you 20$ on your account", I then laughed, and he asked what other card do i have? which i replied none of your business. In conclusion from friends and experience, Discover is a horrible bank undeserving of my business. One friend of mine, had a single late payment and see went from 7% to 22%. I advise not doing business with them. If you are able to cancel and they let you without a speaking to a marketing rep good luck..

A good Card worth getting
by macigiver ,Apr 19 '08
Pros: A Honest company that doesn't play tricks on you Cons: changes in terms frequently
Well I think this is a great credit card Except for all those annoying phone calls you get for the first 2 weeks about all their promos, I called them back and told them to stop, no more phone calls from them since! it has a good APR in general but the calculation is a little strange and they change the terms often. It's not that difficult to understand. Discover Card is good if you pay on time and watch your APR. they don't play any dirty underhanded sales tricks like the other credit card companies do. they still of course want you to get the insurance on your card for job loss, death etc.... all of them do that, but when you say no they actually listen and don't pressure you. It's easy to talk to a human on the phone with a ability to get automated phone system in a short time. I personally have a very high balance on this card and I am paying it off little by little and the company is soo nice I almost don't mind paying the interest.

beware of Discover Card payment protection plan!!!!!!!
by missydodger ,Oct 05 '07
Pros: nothing Cons: deceptive practices
Last month I received a call wanting me to enroll in Discover Card Payment Protection Plan. The salesman informed me that this was FREE for people who pay off their credit card balance in full each month. After she explained the plan I asked her again if this was FREE for those who pay off their card in full each month. She said yes. This is a lie!!!!!!!!!! I was billed for the Discover Card Payment Protection Plan on my next Discover Card Statement. I called and cancelled the Payment Protection immediately. If this happens to you- call and cancel within 30 days and the charge will be refunded.

Cut up your Discover Card
by cpakurt ,Nov 07 '07
Pros: They are pros at insulting and degrading you and lying to your face. Cons: Customer service - there is NONE!
AAAgggghhh! This is the most rude, worthless credit company in the history of man. They nick you obscene charges for every incident and they create every incident they can by increasing your minimum payment, changing your due date, billing late, or giving you the wrong payoff amount so you are left with a balance on your card after you think it is paid off. Run, NOW, as far away from this company as you possibly can. If you have debt with this company contact your local Consumer Credit Counseling Service to arrange getting it paid off as soon as possible.

Discovercard
by tulsaboyw ,Aug 26 '07
Pros: not much anymore. Cons: too expensive...u can do better with the 'right' rewards visa.
Many of the old comments about online accessible have been wrong.
Ive had discovercard for more than 10+ years, and its always been online accessable.
As far as customer service...I agree its bad... I had to threaten a lawsuit just to get them to work with me & my mother when she was sick just to get me to be a legal agent on her behalf.. Had to call the president of the company personally and advise him that my next call would be to my Senator that his csr's were being beligerant and that I had everything on TAPE.
As far as cashback..>Discovercard may have been 1st, but nowadays they are not the best at it.
For the most recent reason alone, thats good enough reason to cancel.
Its not a worthwhile card anymore..

READ BEFORE APPLYING FOR DISCOVER
by chickie66 ,Dec 02 '05
Pros: ARE NONE Cons: BAD RATES FOR AVERAGE PERSON WITH DECENT CREDIT
We have been members for 5 YEARS. Our credit is very good. We have paid them over $10,000 in the past 5 years but Discover will not decrease our APR to a reasonable rate, They are charging us an unbelievable 23% interest rate and in the 5 years with discover, not being late more than 3 times, they refuse to lower our rate!! BEWARE You must have EXCELLENT credit to get a decent rate GO ELSEWHERE we are transferring all our money over to another card with an excellent rate.

Fraud protection plan
by ericwoerth ,Dec 21 '06
Pros: 0 interest for a year Cons: Headache of dealing with customer service and lawers to stop fraud not worth it.
Signed up for the 0% intro offer, all cool but they asked me to sign up for the protection plan, which I declined. Well here comes the first bill $58 a month for the plan charged to my account. That was more than the finance charges for my previous card. Seems fraud is a way of life for this company. They say will take 10-15 days to credit my account. Needless to say it wont take my lawer that long to file a fraud suite.

Morgan Stanley will never see my money again
by bcbosch ,Sep 28 '05
Pros: Fine, until the going gets rough. Cons: Uncooperative, nasty, and secretive even if you're trying to pay them off.
Several years ago, I was laid off and was unable to repay my credit card bills on time or in full. Instead of filing for bankruptcy, I wanted to make an effort to repay the money I'd borrowed. I joined a debt management plan with plans of making a payment once a month that would be redistributed to my credits cards, hopefully with renegotiated interest rates.
Discover was by far the most uncooperative credit card to deal with, and they never budged on their 17.99% percentage rate. Once, they changed my due date without notifying me, so I was charged late fees. Bank of America Visa, on the other hand, was kind enough to drop my interest rate to 0.0%.
Now that I am out of financial trouble and no longer need debt assistance, I know who will have my business and who will not.

Payment Protection Plan Scam
by unclegonzo ,Jun 10 '09
Pros: Cash back, but they keep taking away benifits. Cons: Scammers.
Beware of a call from Discover to give you information about their Payment Protection Plan. They will tell you they are only giving information and sending you a letter about the program, not enrolling you. But check your next statement because it will have a charge for the program even though you never consented to enroll. Been a Discover customer for about 15 years, but cancelled the second they tried pulling this scam on me.
