MBNA Mauled My Mall Visa Card

by frazzledspice frazzledspice is a Top Reviewer on Epinions in Personal Finance, Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 500, May 10 '00
Pros: Typical Platinum Card Benefits
Cons: Took Over the Mall Visa, Took Away the Perks!
My Mall VIP Visa Card has been owned by so many banks that I think of it as the orphan card in my wallet. The idea for a Mall reward card was first conceived of by Bank One. Within months they sold their portfolio to PNC Bank, and, a month or so ago,...

Pros: vacation points, great customer service
Cons: slow processing after fraud complaints
I have had the MBNA America Stanford Alumni Platinum Plus card for 6 or so years. What does the Stanford Part have to do with it? Nothing that I can tell. It has the name and logo on it (and some people comment on that), but other than that, it is no...

MBNA credit cards - good for balance transfers

by Arthur.Rubin Arthur.Rubin is a Top Reviewer on Epinions in Personal Finance, Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 500, Mar 25 '02
Pros: generally good for balance transfers
Cons: web site authentication security is questionable, customer service inconsistent
MBNA has been generally a good card for me -- but, first let me tell you something about my financial situation. I have enough credit cards and lines to buy a small house here in Southern California (if the seller would accept credit cards), and enough...

Pros: Lots of great programs -- something for everyone! Awesome customer service.
Cons: Expensive penalties, not-so-low interest rate
I’ve been an MBNA Visa cardholder since 1989. MBNA was one of those cards I acquired back in college, when they feverishly targeted students as suckers in hopes of leaching high interest payments from people who could rarely afford their own spending...

Cons: The usual: high fees, changing interest rates and credit limit.

Pros: cool school ties
Cons: terrible rate
This card has no annual fee, but has a terrible 15.99% interest rate when prime is currently 4.75%. My other cards are at 5.24% and 7.75%. The only reason I got this card is because it has a picture of my college campus and identifies me as an alumni,...

# 1 IN MY EYES

by klow , Jan 26 '02
Pros: AWESOME CUSTOMER SERVICE-CUTE CARDS-0% INTRODUCTORY APR-EVERYTHING
Cons: THERE AREN'T MORE BANKS LIKE MBNA
I have several credit cards ie..First USA, Discover, Capital One and so on. My MBNA card is the one with the lowest APR(fixed at 9% for over two years)the best customer service, and a reward of a higher credit line when I keep my payment history in tact....

by joshuawelch , Nov 01 '00
Pros: Fraud protection
Cons: Everything else
You want an inside view on MBNA, of course you do. Well where do I start? I worked for MBNA for three months and ill tell you there is nothing amazing about them. Now granted I was only a telemarketer but we now more than they think.

Excellent service

by maynard7 , Sep 28 '00
Pros: Accurate statements, excellent service
Cons: Web site needs work
I got a Platinum Visa (how did *that* happen?) from MBNA 5 years ago. The few times I've had to call customer service, they've always been so helpful. Their service is so much better than American Express or any other credit card issuer, and there's no...

Not a bad credit card at all!

by luvskris328 , Jan 10 '02
Pros: Good customer service
Cons: High interest rate, of course
I've had my MBNA credit card for some time, and I must say that I am pleased for the most part. Any time I have had any questions or needed anything, I call them and the customer service representatives have always been nice and helpful. They usually...

MBNA - Like most of the rest.

by aznative77 , Aug 15 '01
Pros: Interesting card styles. Low APR convenience checks.
Cons: Increasing APR on purchases.
My MBNA MasterCard is just like the other cards I own. I signed up for a 9.9% fixed rate which was excellent. This rate lasted for about 2 years. Then back in October/November or 2002 the card became as bad as all of the rest. They have changed my...

MBNA, not ever again

by neenee47 , Jun 22 '01
Pros: Good interest rate at beginning
Cons: High interest rate for an uncalled for reason
I received a pre-approved credit card application, filled it out and sent it back in. I was approved for $3000. A very good interest rate. I used it and made payments, more than the minimum, on time.

They raised my credit limited to $5000....

MBNA Michigan Tech Platinum

by dkwolf , Feb 03 '00
Pros: Nothing
Cons: Deceptive in their practices
My husband and I got this card through his Alumni Association. It was the worst thing we ever did. We pay off our bills each month, so interest rates aren't an issue. However, we found that they were "claiming" we were late with payments,...

I worked for MBNA, I know all the inside stuff

by ewad , Jan 26 '00
Pros: no anual feel, pictures on front, decent APR
Cons: telemarketers will call
As a relative of a former emploee of MBNA i know exactly how ood the cards are. True they are very reliable because MBNA is currently the largest credit card issuer. They gain many of their clients through telemarketing, I know because this is what my...

"Rewards" for being a good consumer
by lexiet ,Sep 18 '05
Pros: None
Cons: Rude, unhelpful customer service. Reduces credit limit if you transfer balance to another card.
I had a credit card from Air Academy Credit Union for probably 20 years, when it was taken over by MBNA. Payments on time, carried a fairly large balance, had a credit limit of $17,600.

When I found a better rate, I did a balance transfer to another card. With my next MBNA statement, I was informed my credit limit had been reduced to $1,000.

Positive it must be a mistake, I called "customer service". They explained my limit was reduced because I was only making the minimum payments. When I explained to THEM that this only meant they stood to make more money from me, the rather snotty guy on the other end wanted to know where I came up with the money to pay off my balance. I said I did a balance transfer. His response was, "Oh, well, that's the way we do things."

The only reason the account is still open is that it is the oldest account I have.

So much for rewarding a longtime customer who shops around for the best rate.

Customer unfriendly times 2
by schaafs4 ,Nov 18 '05
Pros: There are simply no "pros" here.
Cons: The most infuriating aspect is the inability to be in the least bit flexible.
I've been using the same credit-union credit card for the past 19 years and the customer service was great. Recently the Master Card of the Franklin Mint FCU was sold to MBNA. I've had 3 contacts with them so far (two week period). They've been rude and have tried to sell me their "financial services" despite my protests that I simply wanted to change my PIN! They actually tried to charge me $15 to do this, but I demurred. I'd like to cancel and switch, but they own an awful lot of cards.
