Pros: Cheap Cons: Interested in talking to a human? Forget it.
I have worked with several different auto insurance companies. AIG has by far the worst service I have ever experienced. Sure, they are cheap, but the amount of time you spend on hold or on the phone with them trying to straighten out problems negates...

Pros: AIG is inexpensive compared to other companies. Cons: Customer service is hard to reach, dropped our policy for one small claim after 3years
I live in NJ and auto insurance is expensive and mandatory. Many major insurance companies have left the state making getting auto insurance a difficult proposition. In 1998, I opened an auto insurance policy with AIG. At the time I was a single ...

Pros: Prompt Service, Low Rates,Good customer service Cons: None so far that I can determine
Several years ago while shopping for Auto Insurance I found AIG through a search engine. Strongly impressed with this Group's Web Site. I requested an online quote and they were prompt in their reply, with the lowest quote I had received up to that...

Pros: Cheap rates Cons: Cheap rates shortly turn into HIGHER rates. Poor customer service. Inordinate wait times on the phone.
I was "lured" into switching my auto insurance to AIG, by their shrewd
sales campaign. I filled out an application and was quoted a rate significantly lower than GEICO. I switched insurance companies and received and PAID my first bill. I...

Pros: Cheap prices, at first Cons: Incompetent customer service, incorrect billing.
The Start
I bought a new Oldsmobile Alero last summer (June 2000). So, of course, I needed auto insurance. But, I also wanted a good deal. So, I called up every auto insurance company in the phone book and asked for a price quote. Among...

Pros: Good rates. Cons: Poor claim service. Use of independent adjusters.
I felt the claim service did not respond to my inquiries promptly. The independent adjuster they hired never returned my phone messages. AIG deducted amounts for "betterment" because my ("depreciated") exhaust system was damaged and had to be replaced....

Pros: Cheap (when they are trying to sell you) Cons: Increased Premium
Poor customer service
I bought my insurance from GE Auto (now part of AIG Auto). Somehow they got an accident report from some reporting agency (and they interpreted few words to suit the condition for premium increase). Even when my previous agent's office (State Farm) got ...

Pros: They have low prices Cons: They try to rip you off at every turn.
I have always thought of myself as being able to find a deal, so when I called AIG (after receiving a price quote in the mail) and talking to the individual for about an hour I came to the conclusion that this was a deal I couldn't pass up. The price ...

Pros: Lowest rate available Cons: none
I am not your typical car owner. I own two Chevrolet Camaro's - a 1997 Z28 and a 1969 Rally Sport (my pride and joy). So - when looking for affordable car insurance, you can imagine I had to shop around.
My old insurer was Mercury Insurance....

Pros: Starts out fair priced, quick and easy setup. Cons: Ended up 20% higher, with a bogus excuse
I originally was quoted ("guaranteed") a fair and reasonable price based on the value of my vehicle. By the time the rate went into effect it was higher. It was 20% higher again at 6 months. I changed the coverage, got a new quote, then at the renewal...

Pros: Great initial rates. Cons: Rates go up, and up, and up over short period of time.
AIG and MBNA offered me low cost auto insurance and quoted a slightly, but worthwhile, level below my current Progressive amount. But when the bill came, the quoted monthly was $20 higher and I kept getting "Change of Premium" statements weekly that kept...

Longtime AIG customer
by surfer19713 ,Apr 28 '06
Pros: Great rates, friendly service, easy to conduct business,24/7 customer service, great claims service. Cons: None
I have insured my vehicles with AIG since 1998 and have been totally satisfied with the service they provide. Their rates are competitive and their customer service staff is friendly and helpful. I was involved in one minor loss a few years ago and the claims service was great. I was contacted the same day and my claim was handled in one week. Based on my experiences with AIG Auto I expanded my business with the company.
UPDATE 12/6/06: I had a recent accident and my experience with the AIG Claims department was excellent. Upon contacting the claims department the lady I spoke with took all the information in a caring and professional manner, I was then transferred to the adjuster who took my statement and answered any additional questions. The next day I received a call from the appraiser who came to the house, wrote up the estimate and cut a check for the damages minus the deductible. The whole process was resolved in less than 24 hours. This is the way a claim should be handled.
