Pros: the entire story on a double CD Cons: doesn't come with tickets to the show ;)
This is my second try on this review. The first time I did it, I wrote in a rather skimpy fashion. Take two! :)
I like Rent. I like the play, but I must say that the music from it is good enough to listen to outside of the show itself. I have...

Pros: great characters, fun songs, emotional depth, music for every mood Cons: expensive if bought on double CD format
Rent has got to be the most passionate and beautiful musical I have ever heard of and seen. I saw it for the first time in 8th grade, and it changed my life. The songs and the characters are so strong.
From the moment that you press play,...

Pros: Wonderful music; Gritty, real feeling the characters Cons: Some flimsy lyrics; Trained vocalists may be annoyed by untrained voices (a.k.a. people who are definitely not experienced singers.)
RENT is an absolutely wonderful show, which I had the privilege to see when it came to my area, playing at the Civic Theater in San Diego. While it is far from perfect, and someone obviously capitalized on the death of the creator, Jonathan Larson, to...

Pros: Master work full of emotion and power Cons: No video to go along with it!
Rent is the most raw modern musical I have ever heard. There are things in this album that will make you cry and laugh, sometimes at the same time! There are other parts that will make your skin crawl. This is a musical based on the lives of poor...

Pros: Great score, amazing lyrics, talented vocalists, gut-wrenching humour Cons: Adult language and themes
When I was a young lad of about 11 or 12, I was sent up to New York City for an audition for a commercial (Off the topic: I didn't get it). While up there with my family, we thought we would catch a Broadway show or two. Standing in line for tickets in...

Pros: Amazing music, timeless story Cons: All Hard Rock
There is "no day, but today" to purchase Rent, one of the most popular musicals of the 90's. Written by Jonathan Larson, who never got the opportunity to see it open on Broadway, the music and lyrics combine to form a Musical with such power...

Pros: Great music, awesome singing. Cons: None.
I first heard this CD driving with a friend of mine in her car. She had just bought it, and was playing it constantly. I first realized how much I like the music when I didn't want to get out of the car. I hadn't seen the play before, yet I slowly...

Pros: Excellent cast and music Cons: Inconsistent lyrics
I don't care what anybody says- Rent is good. It isn't a groundbreaking masterpiece, and it doesn't live up to its hype. Still, it is one of the best musicals of the 1990s and deserved to win its Tony for Best Musical.
The...

Pros: Everything! Music, Lyrics, Characters, Theme, 100%! Cons: ...
I bought Rent only after hearing its controversial reputation. I knew nothing about the plot, really, or the vivid characters. But I knew it made waves so I had to see what the hype was. At first listen I was lost. Without seeing the show, it was...

Pros: very eclectic, great beats, catchy lyrics Cons: may not be what everyone is expecting
Most people are going to go on and on about RENT as the musical, what the plot is about, and things like that... But I wrote a review on the musical. This is about the Original Cast Recording - a fine CD to add to your collection, and a lot of fun to...

Pros: Amazing set, characters, plot, music and lyrics Cons: on tour so you can only see it every couple years without traveling
I absolutely loved the musical RENT. I have already seen it 3 times, and I plan to see it again next time it comes back to Boston. Especially in this day and age, it is a story that actually tells a touching story about being poor, homeless, in love,...

Pros: Great travelling music! Play it as loud as you can in the car, and sing along! Cons: I don't travel much, and after singing my throat hurts :(
I bought this CD back when it was first released. Since then I have replaced it twice, bought a copy for my sister, and have gotten all of my friends hooked on singing along. I'd take it with me on speech/debate trips, and theatre troupe tourings and...

Pros: talented singers, great story line, inspiring songs Cons: Some parts from the Broadway show are missing from the soundtrack
This is one of the greatest musical shows that I have ever listened to. I love it because of the varying styles of music that mesh together within the whole c.d. If I am in a great mood, I will listen to one of the hip, outgoing songs. If I am feeling...

Pros: The Message! Cons: A little intense for some
This musical deals with some very heavy issues through song...love, HIV/AIDS, Gay relationships and surviving in the world to day.
From the opening song "Rent" the characters grab on to your heart and don't let go, their message "No...
