Pros: great songs, no filler, added tracks not on UK version Cons: if you own UK version it's a bit redundant
When it comes to the punk rock scene of the late 70's, three names instantly come to mind. The Sex Pistols had their moment in the sun because they were trying hard to be obscene. The Ramones were known as the cool guys that influenced a lot of the ...
Pros: One of the great punk albums; solid songs; nice and angry Cons: Poor recording quality; no lyrics sheet; U.S. and U.K. releases are different
The members of the Clash must have just been born good and angry. This first album is very blunt and gets one thing across clearly -- these working-class, English fellows were mad as hell about the careers and such that were available to them.
Pros: Awesome music, some great singles Cons: single version of white riot, lacks 'album' feel, where is the Groovy Times EP?
When the Clash’s self titled debut album was an unexpected success in its native United Kingdom, CBS naturally started taking step towards releasing it stateside. While the US branch wanted to get a Clash record out in the US, they weren’t happy with the ...
Pros: Greatest Punk Album Of All Time Cons: Some fools dont like it. They should all DIE!
It’s impossible, I tellya. Believe me, I’ve tried- I really have. I tried to sit in a comfy chair and just listen to The Clash’s debut album so that I could take it all in and report back to you guys, but...no can do. From the first ”I’m in...
Pros: Urgency, Speed and Rawness Cons: CD quality misses the point
The first Clash album is undoubtedly a milestone in modern music. Whilst lacking some of the humour of its contemporaries like Damned, Damned, Damned, (obviously by The Damned), and the Pistols’ Never Mind the Bollocks, The Clash was always a fixture on...
Pros: The first and one of their finest... Cons: Why don't they make 'em like they used to...
The Punk Revolution hit Britain like the Luftwaffe back in '77. It was like the R&R British Invasion of America in reverse, with a tidal wave of punk bands roaring onstage trying to emulate the Heartbreakers and the Ramones. Many bands, notably the...
Pros: Grainy feel of the original '77 sound. Cons: sound quality is a little off
Without the Clash where would we be??? They weren't the first. They weren't the last. But from 1977 to 1980 they were one of the best. This album has a raw sound to it that makes me feel a tickly in side. i can just imagine Joe Strummer bashing his...
Pros: Great Lyrics, powerful and catchy, simply a masterpiece. Cons: None whatsoever.
Where would Punk Rock be today if it weren't for the musical geniuses and forefathers of much of today's music? Probably completely different. The Clash are undoubtedly one of THE most influential bands of our time. This self titled album is an...
Pros: a must for your collection Cons: never sounded as good
Supertramp, Fleetwood Mac, Disco ... even as a young lad I was so sick of it all and then came The Clash. Like an A-Bomb lighting the sky, this album wiped out all the junk that was being jammed into my inner ear. This album opened me up to a whole new...
Pros: hard, original, spirited punk Cons: can't see them live
This is the greatest album ever made. The Clash lp has more spirit than any other record I've ever heard. I listened to it for the first time a couple years ago and I've searched for something half as good ever since. The first song, Clash City...
(the only band that matters) by squirlee_t ,May 13 '05
Pros: It's the Clash! there is nothing but pros as far as I'm concerned Cons: The US and UK versions don't have some of the other's songs.
It's true, if world was reduced to one band... let it be the Clash. Formed in the spring of 76' they were there right at the explosion of punk rock in Britain. Bassist Paul Simonon was a painter, he had no musical experience which was, and still is to some degree, very popular in punk music. This band hit the ground running and started to evolve almost immediately. It is even evident on this album. This album takes you from aggressive and angry in 'White Riot' and 'I'm so bored with the USA' to 'Police and theives' and 'White man in hammersmith palai' which almost sound like a different band. Once you check out this album and the next two, you will start to hear a connection that can't be described but can certainly be heard. This is the album that, when released in 1977, wasn't in record stores in the US because shop owners "couldn't find a genre to put it under"... yadda yadda yadda it's the best selling import album of all time.
