DELIVERANCE, It's a man's movie that concerns issues seldom talked about nor, thankfully, experienced..

by popsrocks Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 50, Aug 23 '04
Pros: A psychological thriller that dissects the relationship of men.
Cons: Last fifteen minutes were not as tight as they should have been.
When the movie Deliverance first came out in 1972 I saw it immediately. It was a movie that was thrilling and very thought provoking. I thought I would check it out again. Now years later, and much older, I watched it on DVD and I once again I went ...

DELIVERANCE: I'll never look at Beverly Hillbillies the same way again!

by cripper Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 500, Nov 28 '03
Pros: Some truly tense moments, the Duelling Banjos
Cons: Loses momentum in the second half
The one thing I will always remember Deliverance for is the song, The Duelling Banjos, and the famous scene of the actual duelling banjos between an Appalachian boy and Drew, who is played by Ronnie Cox. The insane duelling scene has ...

An Interesting Outdoor Adventure

by toiletoctopus Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 500, Sep 29 '07
Pros: Ned Beatty in underwear, great acting, Scenery
Cons: White Water Rafting is Risky
A couple of weeks ago, I joined my friends for a camping trip, that had a site on the Shenandoah River. It runs from West Virginia down to Southwest Virginia, and winds through small cities and large suburban locales. The weather was perfect, and we ...

by skippio , Nov 02 '00
Pros: great cast; intriguing storyline
Cons: none major
Deliverance is the tale of four businessmen who decide to take a weekend off from the city life of Atlanta to take a peaceful, quiet canoe trip down a scenic river. This river will not be in existence much longer, because an electric company...

What I, uh, "re-quire" is that you see this movie!

by dancingpotato , Sep 08 '01
Pros: Fine acting; excellent direction; screenplay has unexpected levels of subtext.
Cons: A bit too long.
A handful of movies have reputations that precede them. A reputation that even those who haven’t seen the movie know about. Generally, this reputation also brings its share of bad ideas and misconceptions. Before I saw Deliverance, I was under the...

You Sure Got a Purty Mouth, NOW SQUEAL LIKE A PIG!

by mattjoe Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 100, Aug 06 '00
Pros: Dueling Banjos is a cool song
Cons: Burt Reynolds gets a Boo-Boo
Yes, if you ever hear words like that, you better run. Or, you may be in the remake of Deliverance.

Deliverance is a story about four men from Atlanta who decide take a canoe trip down river in the Appalachians, and the trouble they encounter....

Deliverance's third act kills the delivery

by updateghost Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 1000, May 19 '08
Pros: Most of the first two acts.
Cons: Third act eliminates any steam.
"Deliverance, man! It's effing crazy! You gotta see it! There's like, that rape scene! And those crazy hillbillies! Aw man, I hate hillbillies! They're so crazy! And that banjo boy! And the banjo boy! Man vs. nature, man! It's deep! Crossbows! ...

Will They Get Deliverance From The River?

by jessicamartin , Mar 05 '04
Pros: Script, Acting, Directing, Suspense, Shock-Value.
Cons: Substandard film to DVD mastering. 2-Dimensional "bad guys."
The journey starts off innocently enough. Four Southern urbanites venture to backcountry Tennessee to canoe the Cahulawassee River before the impending damn plugs up the river and floods the valley. The four cast of characters are Lewis the ...

Deliverance (1972)

by BrianKoller Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 50, Aug 04 '01
Pros: cinematography, casting, direction, tense story
Cons: rape, violence, last twenty minutes is anticlimactic
While Angelina Jolie was playing animated tomb raider Laura Croft, her father Jon Voight was concerned that she might be injured in one of the film's many stunts. What goes around comes around, as Voight had three decades before risked life and limb ...

The Duel Between Banjos; The Duel Between Man & Nature

by walkermuff , Feb 25 '05
Pros: Acting, Direction, Realistic Feel
Cons: May be a bit slow for some, rape is disturbing, finale is lackluster
"Deliverance" is a simple film. And its the simplicity that works. Most real life events are not overly complex or hard to understand. Real life events deal with real life emotions. And that is where "Deliverance" really comes out victorious. The ...

Don't talk, just do it

by hellfudge , Nov 13 '03
Pros: Intense without being "hollywood".
Cons: Disturbing (to me that's a good thing), not for short attention spans.
I don't review many things outside of music simply because music is the largest driving force in my soul. And I don't write an awful lot of those either, simply because it's hard to find anything new that I feel strongly enough to write about, and I don't ...

Deliverance: a real horror film

by splitsurround , Jun 26 '01
Pros: Terrific story, great acting, quite terrifying & original
Cons: not many...a little long if anything.
When writing a film review of John Boorman’s classic “Deliverance”, there’s a few choice phrases that are usually included, so let’s just get those out of the way. “Can you squeal like a pig?” is one. “He’s sure got a purty mouth..” is another....

Reynolds without his mustache

by matthewn , Aug 12 '01
Pros: Good combination of characters
Cons: The conclusion was slightly abrupt, I thought
First movie that I have seen Reynolds clean shaving:) Almost seems to be his trademark. But this movie was good nonetheless.

It starts with four men: Burt Reynolds, Ned Beatty and two other guys. They are going on a canoe trip down south to...

Distressing, but well worth it

by Korova , Apr 09 '01
Pros: Acting, directing, script, tension, meaning...everything
Cons: EXTREMELY unpleasant at times
One of the most disturbing films of all time, `Deliverance’ is far more than cheap shocks. There are two sequences in the movie that people will remember forever, but the film is deeper and a lot more interesting than duelling banjos and rape.
