Pros: Absolutely stunning historical view of a watershed event that still affects us today. Cons: After many years, The 300 Spartans will finally be released on DVD in June, 2003!
UPDATE: The 20th Century Fox DVD has finally been released (May 2004)! The film is presented in 2.35:1 Cinemascope and is absolutely pristine in all its Technicolor glory. The widescreen treatment adds so much to the viewing experience compared ...

Pros: A stirring historical tribute of an event that we still revere today. Cons: The fact that it took so long to be released!
"Oh wanderer passing by, if you find us lying here, go tell the Spartans you found us, obedient to their word!" In its various forms and translations, this is the gist of the tribute paid to the 300 Spartan soldiers, the personal bodyguard to King ...

Pros: Excellent, stirring account Cons: None
“The 300 Spartans” is a seriously good and inspiring movie, manly to its core, about a seriously important topic: the existence and preservation of Western Civilization as we know it today. Played by the square-jawed Richard Egan, King Leonidas, ...

Beautiful Film
by eireann74 ,Apr 16 '04
Pros: Great acting, beautiful cinematography. Cons: None.
What can I say that George Chabot didn't?
Well, I can say that Richard Egan was an amazing Leonidas. He has a fantastic quiet about his portrayal, not falling into the typical "Shakespearian" trap. Human, understated, and enigmatic in all his films, Richard Egan was an actor who, despite being popular and well respected, never got his full due. This movie is evidence of an actor who's style was well before its time.
The cinematography in this film is utterly breathtaking, especially considering the time it was made. What continues to move me were the chilling battle scenes, set among these beautiful landscapes. It truly makes you feel as if this took place in ancient Greece, yet still resonates in today's world (especially right now...)

Heads Flyin
by erica1984 ,Mar 19 '07
Pros: The abs of the spartans...hehe Cons: A man's movie...not much for the ladies
300 men killing thousands...wow. That was the amazing part of the movie. Their tactics. I went to this movie because my boyfriend wanted to see it. It turned out to be a pretty good movie, but it is a real man's movie. Sex and heads flying off. I really thought the special effects would be a little better. It was neat how the blood flew off the bodies when they got stabbed...but the was the really the extent of the special effects to me.
