Pros: Beautiful scenery, intriguing second half. Cons: Slow first half, character inconsistencies.
Match Point was not what I expected it to be. It's certainly not a movie about tennis. And, while written and directed by Woody Allen, it's not your typical Allen feature by any means. With a slow, plodding first half, I was close to giving up. ...
Pros: Fantastic script and direction from Allen, great performances abound Cons: A bit slow at times, a fairly common plot
Most Woody Allen films in the early part of decade were fairly safe, and very familiar. Comedies without much reach beyond grabbing a few laughs and fitting neatly into the filmmaker's portfolio seemed to be the aim, and they succeeded for what ...
Pros: Great acting, story, colors, locations, and ending Cons: Some cheesy lines

so I'm not really sure why I decided to give another tennis movie a chance, but I did and I am glad I did. PlotChris Wilton, a Scottish former tennis player, ...
Pros: Lead actor does a good job. Cons: Some parts are agonizingly long, annoying back ground music.
I actually didnt realize that this movie had anything to do with Woody Allen when I purchased it. It was on the previously viewed sale table at my local video store. I had remembered seeing previews of it on television and it looked like a sexy ...
Pros: Different Woody Allen screenplay. Allen without Woody. British actors + Scarlett Johansson. Cons: Bad surreal psychodramatic scene. Awkward improv. False modesty. Coincidence sometimes fails to be a virtue
Boy meets Girl. Boy gets Girl = Tragedy. As one really who has not been an Actor/Writer/Director Woody Allen fan since BANANAS (1971), I was impressed by his new moody, philosophical suspense thriller, MATCH POINT, which eschews some of the ...
Pros: Direction. Characterization. Rhys Meyers. Message. Cons: Last ten minutes are eh.
There's a story I must regale, and I hope this doesn't taint my review. My friend John is a hard-core nihilist. He spends most of his days moping around about life's meaninglessness. When Match Point ended, he walked out of the theater in ...
Pros: Cox, Mortimer, starts OK, sexy, Woody’s not in it Cons: Ultimately formulaic, histrionic, mediocre script
Irish, mid-level (perhaps bordering on greatness, if he had the drive) former tennis player Jonathan Rhys-Meyers takes a coaching job at a swank London club, meets and befriends wealthy Matthew Goode, with whom he shares a love of opera (and no, that’s ...
Pros: Pretty people, some suspense, and an intangible something compelling about the whole. Cons: Very slow, the plot is a little jumpy, and it's pretty depressing.
To me this is a quintessentially British movie, but without the rollicking, quirky humor that I have always enjoyed. Actually, it was rather depressing, without any humor, and almost without sex appeal- quite an accomplishment, with Johannason in a lead ...
Pros: Great Acting, great locations Cons: Predictability
When watching this film I am not sure if you could call it suspenseful because you knew what was going to happen and the only thing that was eating at you, while watching, was the waiting for it to actually happen. Yes I guess that does describe suspense ...
"Scarlett Johansson Makes Me Feel Joy For Being A Male.. In "Match Point" by zenmachado, ,Oct 28 '06
Pros: "Match Point" shows in a sharp form.. how souls can be heavily driven by gold. Cons: The lack of attention that this movie has received, compared to others from 2005.
"Match Point" is a fantastic thrilla by Allen first name Woody. His direction shines and is full of freshness. He also wrote this dramatic thriller that is volatile in its delivery.
"Match Point" is:
Chris Wilton is a former tennis pro, who now finds himself unemployed. He seeks to labor as a tennis teacher. When its found, he becomes chummy with a student: Tom Hewett a wealthy prettyboy. Tom's sister is a beauty called Chloe. She falls for Chris, yet he, fixes his eyes upon Tom's fiance Nola, who personifies "sexiness". Chris and Nola know it's wrong, but still become involved. Involving himself with both women, he attempts to juggle relationships, But at its conclusion he must choose between them.
"Match Point" is finally a Woody Allen film.. I love. Previous efforts were great, but this films couple is dynamo. Jonathan Rhys Meyers is silently fierce at leading with his role. His confidence creates great chemistry with the wonderful leading lady called Scarlett Johansson. She is the best. Truly a seductively menacing presence and completely stole my fantasy heart.
"Match Point" holds thrills, suspense, great script, and splendid acting.
match point .. dreary and boring by bird39 ,Jun 23 '06
Pros: The actors were attractive and... I guess that's it. Cons: This movie was dark and boring, don't waste the time.
In a nutshell, I didn't like Match Point. It was a rather dark movie with a tragic ending. I guess if your into that kind of depressing story line than by all means, watch the movie. I also felt that there was a big opportunity missed in the story line that would have made the movie more interesting and tied up a few loose ends. The powerful and influential father in law. Was he involved in the outcome in any way? The "real" criminal was never shown. It was also very boring in parts. It seemed as if the movie just skimmed the surface of the lives of all of the characters and you never felt that you were able to relate to any of them. The details were just not there.
Pros: tour of london Cons: not much chemistry between the actors
What bothered me was having my buttons pushed during the climax. Up until then I was kind of enjoying the movie; minus the awkward, overly dramatic love/sex scenes. During the climax however I found myself saying "oh, come on!" one to many times. There's suspense and there's abuse of power. Note to the director: Don't include it just because the footage exists. If you were just trying something new out, fine. I don't want to clip your wings but this didn't work ( you did pull it out in the end though).Tah.
