Pros: Breathtakingly beautiful, diverse wildlife, refreshing and pristine water, river tubing Cons: Nothing! It's as close to heaven on earth as you'll get!
Like many people, my family took an annual vacation down to Florida every year. Unlike many people, our Florida vacations did NOT consist of pilgrimages to Disney World or the other Orlando theme parks. Instead, our vacations in Florida usually consisted ...
Pros: Inexpensive, relaxing, can spend the whole day & bring picnic lunch Cons: Sometimes, especially during holiday weekends very crowded
Our get out of town favorite vacation spot is located in North Central Florida. We first visited Ichetucknee Springs State Park about 25 years ago. Friends invited us to go camping at what they promised would be an awesome place, unspoiled by tourism...
Pros: Relaxing, learning experience Cons: Brrrr cold water, drifting to the shore
Two hours from Tallahassee by route 27 (not 27A, by the way, in case you miss the turn in Perry) is the Ichetucknee State Park. Open to the public from Memorial Day to Labor Day. While researching for useful information, I found a web site with all the...
Pros: water very cold Cons: watch out for Alligators
Ichetucknee Springs State Park is located in Fort White Florida off of State Road 47, you can look this State Park up on the Internet under keywords (Florida State Parks) and you will see pictures of what it really looks like.
Pros: cheap, fun day trip, tranquil environment (when not packed) Cons: CAN be packed, pain when trams stop!
Some friends and family and I decided to go here one weekend. I myself had never been so we loaded up a car and a truck and headed there on I 10 from Jacksonville.

Pros: Beautiful, relaxing, wonderful and unique Cons: crowded at times, northern section limited
One of the most beautiful places I have ever been!
We packed our rented tubes ($5 each) into our trunk and we were on the way. The entrance fee at the gate was 3.25 per person. We ate lunch at one of the many picnic tables in the parking...
Pros: Clear, spring fed water. Cons: Unfortunately, the journey has to end at some point.
The Ichetucknee Springs State Park is a great place, as it is a river fed by seven powerful springs and the water is very cold.
I went for the third time on July 9th of 2006, and the experience never gets old. The people you meet on the river are always very nice and the water feels good when the temperatures are above 90 degrees.
Alligators are native to Florida Waters, however, they are rarely if ever seen in the Ichetucknee near the tubers as they are cold blooded and do not like cold water. The gators are more down near the Santa Fe River. On our July 16th trip, we saw several otters near the shore along with many turtles.
The head springs are simply spectacular. Ichetucknee Spring is in a very beautiful setting.
