Pros: Price, Capacity, Footprint, Appearance, Outlets Cons: Poor power quality
I bought the RS1500 (BR1500) because I had an older APC Backup-UPS Pro 1400 that worked great and the RS1500 appeared to be a good combination of price and capacity. And the RS1500 appeared to work well until I installed an application that used ...

decent ups. we got a slew of them plus the add on battery pack to run a small server rack (4 servers 3 routers, 1 powered/voip) cuz it was more cost effective (longer run time per dollar by about thrice) than getting a rack mount for the same price(or 3 ...
High quality protection at a good cost. by chaosblizzard ,Dec 11 '04
Pros: High backup time, quality power filtering, data line protection, phone line protection Cons: Poorly written software (Bulkware/Buggy)
I first bought one of these a few months back when the hurricanes were coming through FL. I am sure glade I did, as the power went out numerous times. Any techi knows that power related issues are the number one cause of computer hardware failure.
This unit not only protects against brownouts and power outages but it conditions the lines. Not just power lines either. It conditions the phone lines and cat5 data lines as well.
This unit provides my system with 40+ minutes of uninterrupted power.
This unit also comes with a nice $150,000 protection policy for your equipment. Not that you will need to exercise it, as the unit has a 15 amp circuit breaker built into it.
Don't Even Think About This One! by dr_eggs ,Oct 25 '04
Pros: Price
Wattage Capacity Cons: Shuts off by itself
No Support
I have owned APCC UPSes for many years and this is the first model that has been a lemon. I bought it through the APCC Trade-ups program because the RS 1000 was such a nice performer. The first RS1500 they sent me had a loud crackling noise coming from the back when it switched over to battery power. They replaced it with another one that still had the same electrical crackling noise but it also just shut itself off at random. I mean it just shut down. Turned its green power light off and then rebooted, just no battery power while it did it. So, after much haggling with the customer service people, who wanted me to troubleshoot it for them at my home by pulling the wall plug with my computer fired up to see what happened, they relented and sent me yet another one. This one looked like it already been returned from someone else, but it lasted for about three weeks before it turned itself off, too.
So I'm done with APCC products, and the support staff.
Don't buy this one, something is seriously wrong with its engineering.
