It just does everything the way it should be

by joseapaez , Nov 21 '04
Pros: Design, ruggedness, affordable but not cheap, state of the art sound and easy of use
Cons: Everybody who can't afford finds it enviable, no doubt!
I have many things to say about my Ipod Mini. I've bought my mini about two months ago, i use it in my car, when working out, when studying, when i want to listen to music before sleep, etc. I find battery durability very acceptable, i can listen ...

Mini iPod is AWESOME, iTunes 4.7 update-don't do it!

by hawkzx12r , Jan 11 '05
Pros: Everything is perfect!
Cons: DO NOT UPDATE ITUNES TO THE 4.7 VERSION!
I purchased this iPod in December 2004 as a gift for my husband for Christmas. Of course, I had to be the one to get it up and running. Well, I followed the instructions in the iPod user manual, and all went well. Yes, it is long and drawn out. You've ...

iPod
by kreese123 ,Jun 10 '07
Pros: It's so nice to not have to worry about CD's all over your car.
Cons: Mine didn't come with any instructions which made it very difficult to figure out.
I bought an iPod to use while I was working out. When I got it home I had no clue how to get the music on it. There were no instructions. I had to figure it out on my own, and talk to other people who had them. Which was very frustrating. When I finally got the hang of it, it was fun. Then I got the attatchment that you put in you car cigerette lighter. That made having an iPod even better. I downloaded all my CD's on it. Which was cool because then I didn't have CD's everywhere in my car. Another good thing is when you like just one song and not the whole CD you can buy just that one song. Another good thing is you can make diffrent playlists to play depending on your mood. One for jamming out and one to relax to and so on. I would definetly buy an iPod again. I love mine.

Must have Firewire 6-pin or USB 2.0 !!
by animalcracker ,Dec 23 '04
Pros: Looks nice
Cons: I find it ridiculous that apple didn't support USB1.0.
Admittedly, im venting here. I purchased this gadget for a loved one and had hoped to load some meaningful songs before I gave it as a Christmas gift. My laptop has USB 1.0 and a 4-pin firewire port. Neither of which is directly compatible with the mini. Sooo, after hunting around i've discovered that the only options are:

PCMCIA card w/ USB2.0 or 6pin firewire - $50
adapter/cable from apple - ~$40
or I could go on EBay and get a $1 adapter $5 shipping.

Since its 2 days before xmas, can't order online so I guess i'll have to bend over and spend an extra $50.

For a gadget so expensive, they should have considered supporting computers that are 2 or more years old.

Great iPod!
by sexycheeka13 ,Feb 05 '07
Pros: Holds lots of songs and does not break easily.
Cons: None.
I got mine for free but if I had to buy it, I would love it just as much. Hold 1,000 songs, and they are small. I would not buy anything else, also the battery is vary good. I went on a trip and it lastes 7 hours without being charged.

Typical support frustration
by dstribeca ,Apr 24 '05
Pros: Works well as a paperweight
Cons: Poor support from apple, wasted time trying to make a defective unit work
Like the three previous IPods I've owned, this one needed to be repaired. This was the second one that was defective new out of the box. As with all of the previous ones, dealing with Apple is completely unsatisfying. Who wants to wait two weeks for them to repair a brand new device?

Most excellent
by nzid ,Jul 18 '07
Pros: Everything worked perfectly.
Cons: It wasn't cheap.
The screen is bright and clear. The sliding touch movement of the menu is cool. The software worked perfectly the first time, without any necessity for help screen, etc. It was intuitive and very user friendly. For a NZ$400 investment, I am well pleased, so far.

Now I know why they discontinued these product.  I've had 2 because my first one completely died and my 2nd one keep telling me my battery is dead but it's really not.  it keeps shutting off, very annoying and aggravating.  DO NOT BUY THIS IPOD...maybe try any of the other ones.

Really worth the $250.00?
by ericc89 ,Jan 02 '05
Pros: Light weight, small, lots of songs, click wheel.
Cons: Price, Battery life.
This is a pretty good MP3 player. It is a little bit pricey for what it is. But its a real quality product. For the price, it ought to come with a color screen or something. The click wheel is pretty cool, it doesn't spin or anything, just roll your finger over it to scroll through your songs, volume, etc. Since I have had it for a few months now, the battery life isn't as long. I don't know if it's because I fall asleep listening to it or what. But I end up having to charge it about 2-3 times a week and it takes about 5 hours to do so.

Apple sure knows how to build them. However there CPU's still suck
by barnacules ,Sep 03 '05
Pros: Durability, Style, Interface, Sound Quality, Size, Battery Life
Cons: Screen, Internal Battery
The iPod mini is the best portable media player I have used to date. I have owned a Creative Rio, Creative MuVo and a Samsung Yepp and all of them fall way short of the iPod. This unit really shines because of its interface. Most MP3 players are not completely comfortable to opperate with a single finger because they are covered in buttons. This unit localizes all of the controls into one touch senstive wheel on the front of the unit. It makes moving though playlists and songs at very high speeds possible which is impossible with the other players I have owned. The iPod also has the best sound quality I have ever heard from any portable device. The sound is loud and crystal clear and the bass is very pronounced even when using the ear buds that come with the unit. The battery life is amazing lasting 12+ hrs per charge and the construction is almost 100% metal which in this day and age is pretty unheard of which makes this unit look slick and very durable.

great product! best iPod available for most people.
by jotto4 ,Nov 13 '04
Pros: lightweight, small, sooo easy to use, innovative design
Cons: none except the cost.
Second best thing I've bought for my wife next to her engagement ring! She LOVES it. She uses it in the car, at the gym and at home. I bought a Griffin Tech iTrip for the car and we have wires connected to our 2 stereo systems in the house. My wife's music is at her fingertips at all times.

the iPod mini is so small! if you are a fan of small cell phones, you will love this mp3 player. the click wheel make scrolling and selecting what you want nearly automatic. the pink ipod mini in a pink leather case is the perfect accessory for any woman who enjoys music. battery life is very good (about 8 hours from full charge to discharge)

The sync to her computer is seemless. Apple is the best at creating easy-to-use software. I've used iTunes on a PC and a Mac. I have to admit it is a little bit easier on the Mac.

ITunes Music store built into itunes software is very easy to navigate, almost too easy to buy songs!!

no way you can be disappointed with this product.

A nice little player in a nice little package
by carlasa ,Sep 14 '05
Pros: Apple, Accessories, Ease of use, Price
Cons: Apple, Accessories are $$$, Could be more exciting
I bought a 4gb mini about 6 months ago for $200. I then bought a skin for it ($20) and a wall charger ($30).

It had been great for those 6 months until last week when something happened. When playing songs, it would randomly switch between pause and play by itself and would shuffle songs.

I was ready to trade in for a new nano, but I decided to take a stab at updating the firmware since I hadn't done it in a while. Well to my great surprise, it fixed the problem. Mini works fine once again.

I was just a little surprised that firmware could just start acting up like that just because it needed to be updated.

Aside from that... I wish the apple accessories were a bit cheaper, and perhaps a more exciting look to the player (boring look/screen)...

Love the size
by jhillestad ,Mar 01 '04
Pros: Size, weight
Cons: none
The size is great, the sound is awesome! Forget about the price difference between the ipod mini and the ipod normal - its all about the size.
I already have a 10gb Ipod and wanted an even smaller one, why ? well try biking or skiing , I still kept a flash player on the side for those quickie outings and size is paramount... Well goodbye flash player....

Think about it, a 4gb flash card would cost a fortune, so $249 is really not out of line.... The unit is solid with a great feel.

The sound is great and very importatnt is loud and crisp, I hate it when a portable device doesnt get loud enough, this mini pumps out good undistorted sound that will be more than enough, so loud you will block out ambient noises. (assuming you are using decent headphones).

Itunes is great, the music store is even greater.

The new CD player
by wood22 ,Sep 25 '06
Pros: Size, design, easy to use and learn, good storing space, color,others...
Cons: expensive, earpiece is annoying, can't replace battery, lots of pricey accessories
I have had my (silver) mini Ipod for about two years now. I do have to say for two years and going it's been great! I got my mini Ipod from my dad as a Christmas gift in 2004. The good thing about mini's is you can take them everywhere! I took mine to school and got away with hiding it. I took mine in my car and can listen to it inside my car and also my room. (That's with a little help from accessories) I also take mine to the gym to listen to without any skipping. I take my mini everywhere! Because it's been a while I do have to say, sadly my Ipod is dying! The battery is always low no matter if its been charged all the way! Now that there is newer Ipods that hold a lot more storing space my Ipod can't compete with those. I find myself listening to the same songs over and over again! Overall I am grateful my dad got me a mini Ipod it's been the great, new, little Cd player everyone seems to be getting and have!

Awsome!
by skeptiq ,May 08 '06
Pros: physical size, sound quality, memory size, ease of use
Cons: nothing
This thing is awesome. I got this about a year ago, and it has not left my sight. Being the avid music lover I am, I am able to take this thing anywhere and listen to my fav tunes. It's easy to use, hold enough songs to not get board with. And when you do get board, it super simple to swap the songs around. Finally an Apple product that rocks!

A Great Disappointment
by smoke286 ,Jan 20 '05
Pros: Size, Interface and Style
Cons: Horrendous battery life, Software,Price for realtivly small storage
I bought one of these a couple of weeks ago. Impressed with its size, interface and stylish design. However I was soon regreting my decision. To begin with its overpriced, especially when one realizes that there are other machines in the same price range with 5 times more storage space. Secondly I had a great deal of trouble with the drivers and software I presume because of the fact my computer was a Windows based system, In fact after a couple of days my computer refused to recognize the iPod when connected. I also was less then impressed with the iTunes software. Another bad point was the difficulty in deleting songs from the iPods hard drive, not to mention the lack of information in the help guide. But its most glaring weakness is its lack of battery life.

I had to format it after a few days, but continued to have trouble, within a week I returned it and purchased a Creative Zen Touch, with which I have had much satisfaction

Apple ipod mini does not like water
by windustb ,Jul 14 '05
Pros: Excellant product, best around, 1000 songs at the touch of a button, wonderful
Cons: ipods don't like water lack of info on how to get repaired
Now and again, sod's law kicks in and theres nothing you can do about it. if like me you enjoy listen to your ipod mini when on your holidays by the pool watch out for those crazy ego's who like to drench everyone by bomb jumping into the pool right next to you and your ipod. problem for me is that how do i get it repaired as i think the battery is knackered or maybe worse even. This ipod was a present from Xmas 2004.
When your ipod is not working only then do you realise that you have lost one of your best mates - the ipod mini

Can anyone recomend a firm or know a solution.

A whole heck of a lot packed into a small but hip package
by facevalue ,Jun 09 '04
Pros: style, size, lightweight
Cons: price?
This was my first foray into the world of media-less portable music...before I was a loyal minidisc user.

I have been quite impressed by the iPod Mini...i've dropped a few times, once while running, and have experienced no problems.

the interaction with itunes is better than other pc-player interactions I have seen.

and it looks cool as hell. I actually prefer the control wheel of the mini to those on the full size iPods.

Honestly, 4GB is more than enough
by mforeman ,Jan 20 '05
Pros: Light, incredibly easy to use, small, sleek
Cons: Still $250 for 4gb, can't run with it
I bought my ipod mini about a month after it came on the market, or roughly the same time it became impossible to obtain one. My ipod mini is one of my favorite toys and I could not be happier with it. It is small enough to easily fit in my pants pocket, light enough to not weigh me down, but large enough to make navigation simple and the screen is large enough to see without an issue. It gets around 5 hours of battery life total, although waking it up from "sleep" takes away a considerable amount of that time, as does keeping the backlight on for a long period of time. The audio quality is phenomenal, as apple controls the market on high-end portable mp3 players. With 4GB able to hold a realistic 64 hours of music, there is never a shortage of space unless you're one of those people who needs to have 300+ hours of music, whereas I would recommend the 60gb ipod photo.

iPod Mini
by a2345678 ,Jul 05 '05
Pros: Awesome extras like games/music quiz, holds a lot of songs,GOOD HEADPHONES!!!
Cons: doesn't have radio, though it says its 4 GB it is only 3.7 before used.
Why do people not like the iPod mini? Sure it does have a low battery life but you can charge it by just connecting it to the USB port on your computer. It is very entertaining. I have a mini silver myself and every feature it has works on high standards! The only problem is that it doesn't have some features, like radio or it cant play WMAs (the bought music format).

Died after 13 months...
by jaketerboo ,Jun 19 '06
Pros: Great sound, ease of use, iTunes, and small size.
Cons: Stopped working after only 13 months.
I was given an iPod on May 3, 2005. It ceased to work on June 19,2006. I loved my iPod, and it exceeded all of my expectations. Imagine my shock when it stopped working. I could have sent it to be fixed, but they could not guarantee that it would be fixed. So, I took advantage of a 10% discount off a new iPod, and the unit would be recycled. Needless to say, I did purchase Applecare Protection Plan that will cover me for 24 months instead of 12.

What a POS!
by fcjiii ,Jul 14 '05
Pros: When the battery craps out you can talk to your girlfriend
Cons: Battery life, screen quality short warranty, overall poor quality.
My IPOD Mini is by far one of the worst electronic devices I have ever owned. The First 3 months and 10 days I loved it. 10 Days after the warranty expired, the screen went bad and now has vertical lines. Very annoying for a $200 investment that is less than 6 months old. This makes it very annoying to read but didn't impact the music... Bring on the battery. It now at 5 months since purchase will only play for about 45 minutes on a full charge. it will then cut out displaying a battery low message. The Battery meter typically says half full when this happens. If I let it sit for 10 minutes, sometimes it will play for another 45 minutes or so, other times that is it and it will not play again until it is charged. Rarely will it last for an entire workout (the main reason I bought it).

Pros: look, size, just about everything!
Cons: price, 15GB is only $50
The iPod mini is great. The size of it is great because you can take it anywhere with you. Also if you are someone who is into looks, the iPod mini looks great. The mini's older 15GB brother may only be $50 more, but I think the mini is worth it's price.

ipod mini - a great buy
by goodwilt ,Jul 23 '05
Pros: Tiny unit is solidly built. Controls are very easy. AWESOME SOUND QUALITY!
Cons: Charges with USB cable...no wall charger.
Once you get past the initial sticker shock ($199) the ipod mini is a great buy. The software interface is easy to use, and the sound this little guy produces is incredible. The only thing I would change is that you have to use the USB cable (provided) to charge the internal battery.

Does the backorder of this product show its true potential?
by zzzlouizzz ,May 02 '04
Pros: small, great sound
Cons: scratches easily, freezes sometimes, expensive accessories, hard to find (backordered8weeks)
I was extremely lucky to call the apple store and they had it in. They were not supposed to come in until the end of June the earliest. I love it so far except the first time that I was about to play a song, it frooze and I had to reset it. That was a bit of a scare. I am also afraid of this sound distortion issue. I do not want to have these problems. It does have an amazing sound. The accessories are pointless and expensive to buy (especially the dock.)

Good deal
by jc1104 ,Mar 09 '04
Pros: Small, light, compact, features
Cons: Price, sensory may be too hassle
There are many mp3 players out there that offer 10gb, 20gb, for just about 50-100$ more than the mini ipod, and that may seem like a better deal because of the storage but that is nto necessarily true. The mini ipod is good looking, compact, small, light, and have many features. So, if you want a light, feature packed, reasonable storage, and small mp3 player, mini ipod is the one for you. It also comes in many colors that you can choose from.

iBliss with iPod mini
by sdbeachgoer ,Mar 16 '04
Pros: Mini size a huge factor, sound, ease of use, color
Cons: Pricey, freezes occasionally, won't hold entire music library
Size is perfect for my purse or jeans pocket. Body doesn't scratch, white face is easy to clean. Battery will last about one work day. Excellent sound, works great with iTunes. Downsides: won't work with my work PC and my home Mac. Controls freeze and need to be reset every couple of days but this isn't a big issue. Can hold iCal (stick to your day runner) and address book (this is a good feature). Will hold about 50-75 CDs. Won't hold your entire library but that's okay: playlists are easier to use and you won't want to cycle through every CD you own on your iPod. Because of this you'll have to manually transfer songs to the mini instead of iSyncing them. I have also dropped this on cement twice and it has held up fine.

I love my mini - especially with Shure E3 earphones
by mcdonley ,Mar 23 '04
Pros: Small size is phenominal, Sound is Great.
Cons: Can't leave it docked with computer off (discharges).
I'm up to 922 songs at 2.3gb (1.4gb to go) ripped at 80kbps AAC mostly. Special albums are ripped at 128kbps AAC.

The User Interface of the iPod, and also iTunes, is very good. The user configurable auto playlists work great.

Sound quality is great, especially with my Shure E3 earphones, but also very good with Aiwa Acoustic Plus Earbuds. (iPod earbuds were too big for my ears).

I get a solid 8 hours of listening on a charge.

Current iTunes software is solid, but sometimes doesn't recognize mini, so I have had to reformat mini's disk and re-sync songs onto the unit. No loss of data, just 20 minutes extra time.

iTunes rips CDs so saves spending $20 for MusicMatch Jukebox Plus.

Great product...horrible customer service
by okkko ,Feb 11 '05
Pros: Lightweight, Compact, convenient
Cons: Bad service
The product itself is great. It is lightweight, small and has enough memory for my song needs. The only problem was with my battery, after using it about 3 times a week for 3 months the battery wears out completely after 3 hours. So i called to ask if the battery could be replaced. Instead of being able to ask a question, I was told that 90 days had passed since I bought the ipod and would have to purchase an upgrade package in order to ask questions via a phone call. This costs $60 U.S. Simply appalling! While this package also consists of an extended warranty type of deal, you cannot make phone inquiries without it. For the cost of the product, this is robbery.

Four people I know bought the ipod including myself, three of us have had problems that need service. My suggestion- wait until they improve quality before purchasing

Pros: Tiny size, perfect sound, easy to use, awesome design.
Cons: Monochrome LCD screen
I purchased the blue iPod Mini from my local Target Store for $249.00. This is one outstanding product. Perfect size and form factor. Perfect sound and everything is very well packaged. The operating manual is well done. What else is there to say, it is cool to use and look at, it is tiny, and it sounds heavenly. Watch for a color screen version coming in the future ! Cons: yes, it is a little pricy, but hey, its worth every penny

Pros: None
Cons: Brand new unit and it doesn't work
I bought my mini iPod today after much research. I installed the software and operating system and was ready to start downloading music once the unit was fully charged. I never got a chance because I couldn't get the menu button to work. Just my luck :( It makes me skeptical to buy another one. Apple really needs to focus on their quality control or they will lose their customers in a hurry.

How The Ipod Mini Is Superior To Other Mp3 Players
by mcpettyofficer ,Oct 27 '04
Pros: everything about it!
Cons: the ear bud size.
The Ipod mini is one of the most renowned mp3 players in the world.Apple has gotten a reputation of user-friendly,durable and useful. Not only does it 1000 songs, but has a 8 hour battery life.I know that souns low in both areas, but if you are a 13 year old kid like me,you probably arent going to use it more than 8 hours a day,and 1000 songs is alot considering the average music listener has about 15-20 cd's.It is made of unscratchable metal, free music downloads and earbuds. The earbuds is the only plave where I have a problem, they are a tad big for my ears and are not very comfortable, but you can still use different headphones for it if you like.(please excuse my spelling errors.)

Buyer Beware: Static and Distortion Problem
by bguffey222 ,May 31 '04
Pros: Sound and design.
Cons: Engineering flaw resulting in unacceptable service.
Had the iPod Mini since February. Distortion problem (described in at least one other review) turned up one week ago. Went to apple.com and read in the forums of others who are having this problem and who have sent their nearly new iPod Minis in for service. I'm doing the same tomorrow. Such a sad problem for such a cool (and cool sounding--before the static problem!--device.

iPod MINI - My PC refuses to acknowledge it's existence
by blastcaps ,Jan 29 '05
Pros: Style, flawless integration with iTunes
Cons: Too many bugs & battery life sucks
I bought an iPod mini and fell in love with it, that was until it started to freeze up and I would have to wait for the battery to die in order to get it to work again, eventually the thing shut off and never came back on, all of this took place within the first week I bought it.

My assumption was that I simply got a lemon so I replaced it. I was very fortunate because the next one lasted an entire 16 days. Now my computer refuses to recognize it's existence. I have tried everything including purchasing another USB cable and re-installing I-Tunes and so far my efforts have failed.

I am now sending it in for a replacement voucher at Best Buy. I am hesitant purchasing another iPod but it works so flawlessly with iTunes (when it works)i don't know if i can live without it. Plus I've spent like an additional $100 on accessories, and I don't want them to go to waste.

The World's Best MP3 player
by dareviewer ,Feb 17 '05
Pros: User friendly, Nice design
Cons: The click wheel pops out of position sometimes
I got an IPOD Mini as a gift. In the past i've had a sony walkman and a Memorex boombox. They were great cd players. At some point I felt like I needed an ipod. So I got one.At $250 they are very pricey. Definitely worth it. Don't buy the imitation MP3 players. In the end it is the world's best music investment.

The Ipod Mini and its Problems
by mousetrap08 ,Jul 12 '04
Pros: Lightweight, many functions, 1000 songs, appealing range of colors, small
Cons: static sounds surface after prolonged use, battery wears out
Many people have purchased the Ipod Mini since its release date. The product has sold millions do this date today. The mini has outstanding features that no other Mp3 player can compare, and with a capacity of 4GB, why wouldn't you bye one? However, you must be aware that there are problems surfacing with the mini.
A large number of consumers have reported sound problems after a month of use. There are reports of loud static noises when applied pressure to its surface. Many claim that Apple has made a major design flaw concerning the connection between the main body and the headphone jack. Also, there are reports that the battery wears out quite easily and it can't be replaced.
Without a doubt, the Ipod Mini is a very respectable MP3 player on the market today, but if the problems are not fixed, it will never be best.

Ipod.......premium quality at a premium price
by asport03 ,Jun 28 '04
Pros: small, easy to use, beats out the competition
Cons: price, not extremely durable
Apple in my opinion has always been known for its high quality materials but you do always pay for apple products.
Dell is kind of like a mercedes, it has everything you want, everything works well and it competes at a competitive level. Apple is like a BMW, it has everything, but they push everything to a new level and competes at a new level. The ipod has a very quick and easy to use interface as well as a great size to deal with to carry it around. It holds the amount of songs that you are going to listen to, i belive that if you have more than 1000 songs, there will be some songs on there that you will never even here. It is somewhat scratch resistant as well as decent overall durability. Everything is quick and easy with my ipod, but i strongly reccomend that you go to your nearest apple store and try it out for yourself, to make sure you actually agree with the amount of money you are spending, becuase it isnt a small amount
