DVD recorders have to be one of the coolest pieces of electronics equipment a person can buy. You can store so much information on one. Once the price comes down a bit more, I'll probably buy a DVD burner for my PC. But anway...if you want to be able to c ...
Pros: It was free since I won it Cons: It never worked, from Day 1
Believe it not, I won this product in a raffle or contest or something I entered. Can't remember. I installed it about two years ago and used it for the first time shortly thereafter, just after purchasing one of the Seinfeld season sets. It was noisy, took forever (years) to load, and then basically pooped out. I think I got a NO DISK or nothing. Can't remember.
You'd think a new player could play a new DVD, both fresh out of the box, but no. I have used this thing maybe three times in two years. If I hold my breath, it "might" find and recognize a DVD to play, but then it screws it up in some way on the screen.
My husband just gave me a 46" HDTV for Christmas, so we took out this DVD player since why the heck bother, and are now shopping for something that, ah, works.
AD-8000 DVD Player/ Recorder( not to DVD's) by kenhaysop ,Jan 25 '04
Pros: plays dvd and cd , easy set-up Cons: doesn't record to dvd
This unit was bought as gift at Christmas for my family.
I was very excited about it and immediately went to the store and bought blank dvd's to record on. When I put them in it wouldn't even recognize them. It will only record to cd-r and cd-rw. I was very disappointed because it will take about 3 cd's to record one movie on. Who wants to keep changing out discs in the middle of a movie. If it were a dvd recorder, one dvd would hold a 3 hour movie. The unit will finalize the cd to play in a dvd player, but these are not actual dvd's that are being recorded on. Make sense? It was easy to set up and played a dvd very good, but the recording capability is not what I was wanting. Therefore, I returned it back to the place of purchase.
Not impressed with the product by picard1 ,Nov 12 '04
Pros: It will record VHS to CD-R Cons: Hard to use. Limited record time. Malfunctioning drawers.
I bought the unit hoping to be able to copy TV programing and copy VHS home movies to CD. It did those things fine. Unfortunately, after very little actual use, the unit's recorder drawer quit operating. So now it virtually useless for anything other than a DVD player. Also, if you are recording a program, it will only record 40 minutes of time without a complicated switch out of CD media. Overall, I am very dissatisfied with the unit and would return it if not for the vendors 7day return policy. I can see why it is 7 days because everyone would be sending the unit back.
Recording quality of the Aspire... by april_dt3000 ,Jan 01 '03
Recording quality of the Aspire Digital AD-8000 was poor. Viewing quality of DVD, VCR and TV was also poor and unable to adjust. The unit prohibited independent use of the TV and VCR and its operation wasn't consistent. The product performed below my expectations and I would not recommend it to anyone.
