Cheap DVD Player, Passable Quality by njdfan ,Aug 21 '05
Pros: Many outputs, decent picture and sound, CHEAP. Cons: Poor lifespan, poor interfaces, hangs on scratched or dirty disks.
This DVD player is currently sitting disassembled on my living room floor with what appears to be a burnt out spindle motor. Purchase was 15 months ago, cost was $40.
Good array of outputs. Audio is stereo/5.1/digital coax/optical, video is RCA/S-Video/composite. I've only tried the stereo audio and S-Video, but the sound and picture quality were pretty good. The unit plays DVDs, VCDs, and audio CDs fairly well, though the audio CD interface can't read embedded CD text. MP3 and JPEG use is passable, though the interface is clunky, and JPEGs seem to come up way oversaturated.
Movie renters beware, scratched or dirty disks can confuse the poor thing. It will often hang up on sections on the disk that it can't understand, and I've had a NetFlix rental lock the system up so badly it needed to be unplugged to reset itself.
The remote control is large, underpowered and poorly layed out, it can be very tough to do things like pause or rewind in the dark.
Overall this is an acceptable DVD player if you're expecting to be in better financial shape in a year or so, and don't mind treating it as effectively a rental.
Nifty DVD Player on the cheap by macgyver24 ,Sep 04 '04
Pros: Inexpensive, easy to read LCD display, can be programmed to be region free Cons: Small on-screen fonts hard to read, sluggish response time on remote control.
I bought this DVD player as an impulse purchase when shopping for more expensive models. For the price I paid for it, I have been very impressed. The controls on the front are simple and have a solid feel to them. The rear panel features 5.1 Speaker output, coax audio out, component video, S-video, composite video, optical out, and if you're like me and don't have 5.1 speakers, there are two RCA connections for stereo output. Playback has been flawless, although sometimes the remote seems to be a bit sluggish; sometimes you have to press the button down a few times to get it to recognize. Also the onscreen font used for displaying time, menus, and messages, is extremely small and narrow and can be hard to read.
All in all, very satisfied with this unit, good for the kids or casual use when you don't want to spend a fortune to be able to play DVD's.
Wow , worst every single penny I spent! by testingbug12 ,Aug 24 '05
Pros: JUST GOOD! Cons: JUST GOOD!
Amazing DVD player, Simple to use, easy handling, excellent player, excellent display. The controls are so easy to use! Worth every penny I spent. Even though the Price I payed was pretty expensive, I would recommend it to anyone. The playback on the sound is just WOW! Enough input/outputs @ the back just for your system! I have 5.1 suround and it worked and played terrific, I would highly recommend this to anyone. This had also played all the DVD I bought in all different stores. I would say the Sound is the best about this DVD player.
