Noise generator with optional wine storage...

by dgrove1 , Apr 23 '08
Pros: Wood shelves, digital controls, dual temperature zones, under counter rated.
Cons: Noisy, loud, obnoxious. Sounds like we have refrigeration truck in our kitchen.
While esthetically pleasing, this unit really disappoints. First, the esthetically pleasing part - This is a nice looking unit. It has a glass door and the blue temperature displays (always on)and the blue 'fridge light (automatic or always on) are ...

Nice, but very noisy!
by bpilt ,Jun 07 '07
Pros: Wooden shelving, dual zones, easy under-cabinet installation. Maintains temperatures at digital settings.
Cons: EXCEPTIONALLY NOISY! Runs nearly continuously because of small refrigeration unit.
Like others, we chose this cooler for it's nice looking stainless steel framed glass front, wooden drawers, dual zones and under-cabinet installation. We customized our kitchen's base cabinets to fit this particular cooler model.
Frequent thunder storms cause temporary power interruptions in our area with the result that the digital thermostats automatically reset to the coolest settings when power is restored. These settings are too cool for either Whites or Reds. Regardless of the thermostat settings, the unit runs nearly continuously and is VERY noisy. Unfortunately, noise is not considered a warranty item.
Despite it's good looks and nice features, we would strongly discourage the installation of this unit in any area where noise could be a problem. That's what prompts us to rate this good looking and nicely featured item as "average."

you get what you've paid for
by firstov ,Nov 28 '05
Pros: works under the countertop, simple controls, tinted glass, wood shelvs, water container for moisture.
Cons: medicore quality, when running produces weired noises, but not very loudly
This cooler looks very attractive and you can get it for about $600 from the Internet.
We selected it because this unit can be installed under the countertop and mainly for its look: stainless steel door, wooden shelfs. Overall it looks very expensive and very easy to operate and use.
Besides wines we store soda cans as temperature at the bottom of the cooler is just right for our kids - it's not as cold as in regular fridge.
Our unit is not very noisy, however after only a couple of months condenser fan had failed. It took us about two months to get this part shipped under warranty. Moreover there was nobody available in our area to install this part. We finished up installing this part by ourselvs, so please make sure you have contractors available in your area before you purchase this unit! You can check for contractors on Danby's web site.
I've made some photos of the wine cooler and posted it on my site at http://www.firstov.com

Beauty is only skin deep--No quality , poor support
by criticrevu ,Nov 02 '04
Pros: Attractive
Cons: Noisy, shelving does not slide easily, Did I say it was noisy!!!
My Danby wine cooler is VERY noisy! Service has been unable and unwilling to provide a lasting solution. Don’t buy it unless you can put it in a room you do not intend to use! Danby finally agreed to replace the compressor fan, which helped, unfortunately it grew louder and louder until it once again disrupted conversation. My guests stop to look around questioning what is making the noise! Danby is extremely difficult to deal with! It seems that they do not think noise is an issue! They also believe that if they send someone out, they have lived up to their legal agreement...The warranty from Danby is only as good as your intestinal fortitude in arguing with them to have someone come out to the house...so that you can take a day off work, to wait for the service man while you empty the cooler, so that he can damage your wall, drag out the machine...and tell you he does not measure noise!

A truly awful product!!! This product will not hold up!
by dsinnar ,Sep 17 '08
Pros: Small size, adequate storage for two temperatures of wine storage, good.
Cons: This product has given very poor service and failed repeatedly.
This product has failed twice within 2.4 years of purchase. The company replaced a sensor preventing defrost after 13 months and at 28 months the compressor has failed. The result is that service costs for the compressor are higher than the purchase price.
I cannot recommend this company's products to anyone seeking a reliable wine cooler!

Noise Excessive
by bfh1 ,Sep 04 '08
Pros: Attractive, Dual Zone, Good Price!
Cons:

Noisy!!!! Runs Hot.

The excessive noise level cancels all the good points of this unit. We also had a problem with heat build up on the counter top.

From day one, we noticed our quartz counter top became quite warm. Warm enough that we use it to quick thaw smoked salmon and shrimp. Was able to reduce the heat by installing a home made baffel from the front to back beside the fan. This creates circulation drawing air from one side of the baffel and blowing it out the other.

As the other reviews have commented, the noise level is excessive and I do not recommend this unit for this reason. Sometimes the noise became extreme. I was able to determine that sometimes the defrost condensate tray touches the fan causing noisy vibration. I solved this with a small piece of foam board jammed between the fan and the tray.
